Career[]
2016–2021: Career beginnings[]
Yoon debuted as an actress in the 2016 TV Novel "Unwritten Promises", playing the teenage version of a supporting character. After gaining recognition for her role in the 2017 horror thriller "Blood is Thicker than Water", Yoon focused on her studies and only took minor roles to avoid affecting her academic performance, as she had received a full scholarship in 2018 to Konkuk University. Her significant role during this period was a supporting character in the 2020 romantic comedy film "It's Destiny, Right?".
2022–2025: Rising popularity and transition to lead roles[]
Following her graduation in 2022, Yoon Sua began to take on more prominent roles, marking a turning point in her career. That same year, she appeared in the SBS melodrama A Winter Without You, where her portrayal of a conflicted university student dealing with grief and estrangement garnered positive reviews. Critics praised her emotional depth and subtle performance, noting it as a breakout moment.
In 2023, Yoon was cast in her first lead television role in the KBS2 family drama Cherry Blossoms After Rain, playing a warm-hearted teacher navigating personal loss and rebuilding family ties. The show achieved moderate viewership ratings but received critical acclaim for its ensemble cast, with Yoon’s performance particularly highlighted for its maturity and sincerity.
Her growing popularity was solidified in 2024 with her casting in the JTBC romantic drama Parallel Hearts, where she played dual roles in a story involving alternate realities. The complex narrative and her ability to portray two distinct versions of the same character were lauded, earning her a nomination for Best Actress at the 2024 Korea Drama Awards.
In 2025, Yoon took on what became her most high-profile role to date as Jeong Se-ri in the tvN fantasy romance drama Favorite Mistake. The series follows a schoolgirl who accidentally finds herself transported into the world of an old comic book, where time is set back to the early 2000s. The drama explores themes of queer identity, resistance, and fate as Jeong Se-ri develops a romantic relationship with Son Hara (played by Hyun Se-na) while facing societal challenges and the constraints of a story written against their love. Yoon’s performance was praised for its sensitivity and emotional resonance, further cementing her status as a leading actress. The series became a cultural phenomenon, especially among younger and LGBTQ+ audiences, and brought Yoon widespread recognition both domestically and internationally.
On June 4, 2025, it was announced that Yoon Sua had chosen not to renew her contract with Ace Factory, and had signed with LoveRail Entertainment instead.
