The Mixtape is the 2nd EP by The Girl. It was released on April 4, 2025.
Background[]
Following the departure of 4 of its members in late 2024, The Girl experienced a period of controversy and uncertainty regarding its future as a group. In December 2024, LSG Entertainment began airing the survival show The Reboot to add 3 new members to The Girl's lineup, in addition to Amélie who had become a member the previous month. On January 25, 2025, the show concluded with Esther Kwon, Madison Thao and Marina Brahimi winning and earning their place as official members of The Girl. The show was widely criticsed for its various moments of mistreatment of its contestants, plus alleged being rigged in favour of the 3 winners. The backlash was exacerbated after former The Girl member Mayuree Chaisongkram alleged that she and Ku Nahyun were unfairly kicked out of the group.
Nevertheless, The Girl surprise released their 2nd EP's lead single "JUSAWI" on March 14, 2025 to immense commercial success, despite receiving mixed critical reactions.
On March 16, 2025, LSG revealed the tracklist and album cover of The Mixtape, along with a release date of April 4, 2025.
On March 23, 2025, Korean media outlets revealed the EP's title track, "The Mixtape", would be a 10-minute long rap song featuring the members LSG's pre-debut boy group YOUNGSTAZ, whose identities at the time remained unconfirmed. It was also revealed that the track would be fully in English, aside from an Arabic-language verse from Marina, a Korean-language verse from Yeoreum and a French-language verse from Marina and Amélie.
The EP was released to physical, digital and streaming formats on April 4, 2025.
Following the EP's release, the members of YOUNGSTAZ were revealed due to their feature on the title track. This led to an onslaught of streaming traction to the non-single, unusual for K-pop at the time.
