Take a Sip! is a South Korean variety show and talk show that airs every Wednesday on SBS TV. Hosted by soloist Ahn Minhui, as well as a rotating cast of guest MCs, Take a Sip! aims to put a smile on everyone’s face. Guests, ranging from well-known actors to newly debuted idol groups, partake in both a talk segment with Ahn Minhui and some fun games with the other MCs. The show’s main point is the middle segment of every episode, where the guest(s) create their own signature drink, which will be sold for a month at the newly opened Grand Cafe. The show began airing on Wednesday, July 6th, 2022.

History[]

Take a Sip! was first pitched to television networks in late 2021 as a variety show in which idols must run a cafe for eight hours as Idol Cafe Mania. After being rejected several times, the show’s producers revised the concept and brought Ahn Minhui on board as a host. Ahn Minhui’s natural charisma and conversation skills inspired the producers to make the show more of a talk show with variety elements.
Take a Sip! was picked up by SBS TV in early 2022. Grand Cafe’s location was purchased shortly after. The show was advertised for a couple months before it began airing through a commercial campaign. The commercials consisted of Ahn Minhui introducing the show while crafting a drink. Each commercial had Minhui creating a different, distinct drink that were added to Grand Cafe’s initial menu.
The first episode of Take a Sip! aired on July 6th, 2022 with K-Pop girl group SWAN as the first guests. They created a black widow mocktail called SWAN's Super Amazing Fantastic Incredible Dark Mysterious Mocktail, which was added to Grand Cafe’s menu. Grand Cafe opened on the same day as the drink’s first day on the menu. Fans began lining up outside of the cafe at 3:00 in the morning on its opening day. LUNIVER’s Galactic Latte became the first ever Grand Cafe drink to have to be labelled as sold out during its first week of selling in August 2022.
The show on March 15th, 2023, with Ni.U as the guest, was the last episode before Take a Sip! went on a break. Randomize was invited for a special episode on May 3rd, 2023. Grand Cafe closed for renovations on May 24th. During Grand Cafe’s renovations, Take a Sip! went on hiatus, but the producers announced that the show would return.
On July 12th, it was announced that Take a Sip! would return.

Format[]

The show consists of three segments. The first segment is the talk segment. Guests sit down with Ahn Minhui to discuss their recent promotions and any fun stories. They also drink their signature drinks, which will be introduced in the next segment. The set of this segment is designed after western talk shows, such as Ellen, where the host and guests sit on comfortable chairs facing each other.
The second segment is the main part of the show. Guests work together with Ahn Minhui and one of the guest MCs to create their own signature drink. With as many different ingredients as they can imagine, guests are given creative freedom for their drink, as long as it tastes good. The drink is then sold at Grand Cafe for a month after the episode.
The third segment is the variety segment. Guests and the guest MCs play games together, sometimes for prizes. There are a variety of different games that the guest MCs rotate through. After this segment, the guests say their goodbyes to the show, and promote their most recent work.

Games[]

Guess The Song! - Guests must correctly guess 5 songs for a prize. There are different versions of this game, such as the 1 Second Challenge, Backward Songs, Speed Change, and Distorted.
Ultimate Tag - Guests play a game of tag that takes place throughout the whole studio. The rules of the game are decided by the managers of the guests.
Idol Karaoke - Guests sing karaoke songs to try and get the highest score they can.
Debate Time! - Guests debate over a silly topic.
Whisper Challenge - Guests play the whisper challenge game.
Water Laugh - Guests try to make another guest laugh, while that guest has water in their mouth.

MCs[]

Main MC[]

The main MC of the show is SUN Entertainment’s first soloist, one of k-pop’s princesses, Ahn Minhui. Minhui, though new in the talk show business, displays her charismatic and friendly attitude as the host. Her insightful and engaging questions allow energetic and fun conversations to ensue. As well, Minhui gives guests the opportunity to show a more real, relaxed version of themselves, creating a conversational environment that is best suited for the guest.

Guest MCs[]

Myunho - A former member of DNM, Myunho spends most of his time either at his self-owned bakery or in his production studio. He brings his knowledge of good flavour combinations to the cafe side of the show, advising guests well. In the variety side, Myunho shows off his playful attitude, encouraging guests to participate fully in the fun of the games.
Eunryeong - A member and the leader of the boy group Attune, Eunryeong brings a sense of calm to the cast of guest MCs. Although he struggles with making drinks, adding a comedic side to his presence, Eunryeong’s determination empowers the guests. In the variety segments, Eunryeong is excellent at explaining the rules of the games to the guests, making sure that they fully understand and can have fun.
Jake - The main vocalist and visual of the boy group ZAXB, Jake is the quiet comedian of the guest MCs. His sharp wits combined with his calm attitude contribute to the fun environment of every segment. Although a bit introverted, Jake often helps out guests with enthusiasm during the variety segment.
Haemi - The rising star actress of the industry, known for her roles in many web dramas, Haemi is the right combination of dramatic and charismatic. She is surprisingly good at making drinks, excelling at combinations of fruit flavours. Haemi is quite competitive in the variety section, helping to encourage the guests.
Shintaro - The main dancer of the boy group SOLVIZ, Shintaro is the ball of sunshine in the MCs. With some experience working with bartending, Shintaro excels at helping guests with the technical aspects of making a good drink. In the variety segments, Shintaro raises the energy and cheers on the guests happily.
Hayato - The lead vocalist of the boy group H6bble, Hayato is down-to-earth and calm. He may not excell at making drinks, but he makes sure the guests have a lot of fun. For the variety segments, Hayato tries his best to make sure every guest is included.
Reino and Jake Choi - A special set of MCs, these two are twins, one a member of MATRYIX and the other a member of The Loners Association. Both are skilled with making drinks, and are very helpful to guests. These two bring a lively aspect to the variety segments, making competitive games much more fun.
Mona - The leader and main vocalist of the girl group Joy, Mona is the big sister figure of the MCs. Her gentle nature helps guests to understand the process of making drinks, although Mona herself is still learning too. In the variety segments, she works to make sure everyone is comfortable and involved.
Kin - A soloist, Kin is a good mix of calm and playful. When making drinks, he has a tendancy to find the wackiest combinations, which somehow work out. He shines in the variety segment, encouraging everyone's competitive behaviour.
