Sugarr is the Featured Group of July 2025
|
Sugarr (슈가) is a six-member multinational girl group under DRV Records. They made their debut on September 2, 2021, with the mini album Mystic Potions.
Following their contract expiration on 2023, the group quietly disbanded. However, they reformed under DRV Records on April 24th, 2025.
History[]
Pre-Debut[]
The group was first announced in November of 2020, when it was announced that Elipse would be debuting a girl group after five years. The following month, the group appeared at Elipse Universe Concert, performing various songs by previous Elipse groups, as well as two original songs: "Expectations" and "Ouch!".
Three months after the plans to debut a new group, the "vocal line" members Aura, Giselle, and Hyunah, were revealed as members in a video entitled ‘MARIA: <Mystery Vocalists>’, whereas all wore blindfolds. A month after that video was released, the "dance line" members Yewon and Tia, were revealed through a dance cover that was posted onto the group’s YouTube channel entitled ‘Streets: <Mystery Dancers>’. Lastly, the rap line (Yewon and Wish) performed in the cover video ‘Best Friend: <Mystery Rappers>’.
2021: Debut[]
On July 19th, all of the group’s official social media accounts were opened and in doing so the company confirmed the group’s name as Sugarr. On the same day, the coming soon teaser was released on the group’s YouTube, Twitter and Instagram,.
On August 5th, the members released individual teasers for their upcoming debut mini album Mystic Potions, set to be released on September 2nd.
2022: Addition of Taera, "Baam! Into Your Heart", Hiatus[]
On January 2nd, it was announced the group would release their first studio album on January 18th, with a new member appearing in the music video. On January 18th, it was announced that Elipse Rookies member Taera would be added to the group.
The group's first album, Baam! Into Your Heart, came out on January 18th to overall positive reviews. However, the group's release quickly went under the radar, and no news were posted about the group since promotions for the album ended, entering a silent hiatus.
2023: Contract Expiration with Elipse Entertainment, Disbandment[]
On 2023, it was announced that Sugarr had ended their contracts with Elipse Entertainment. Despite the group stating that they weren't disbanding, the group would end up disbanding on March 24th.
2025 (1): Wake Up My Music, Jingxu and HOPE's Addition, Taera's Departure, Jingxu and Hyunah's Hiatus and Departures[]
On April 24th, it was announced that the group had signed with RONDO Entertainment's subsidiary, DRV Records, as part of their "Wake Up My Music" project, that gives groups a second chance for success. The group came back with an eight-member line-up, with former soloist Jing joining the line-up under the stage name Jingxu.
On April 28th, it was announced that former GALACTIA member HOPE would be joining Sugarr that same day.
On May 8th, it was announced that Taera would be leaving the group on May 10th due to health concerns.
On May 17th, DRV Records released a statement about Jingxu and Hyunah's future activities, mentioning that both members would be going on a temporary break. It was also revealed that Sugarr would be promoting their next release as a six-member group. A week after, on May 24th, it was announced that Hyunah would be leaving Sugarr, and while Jingxu would be resuming activities with the group, she would depart from Sugarr on June 1st. It was also announced that Jingxu would release a new single that served as a collaboration between herself and the remaining Sugarr members. It was also announced that Sugarr's upcoming album would feature a graduation song with both Hyunah and Jingxu.
2025 (2): "AING ♡ Love Spell"[]
On June 10th, DRV Records began releasing the individual member teasers for the group's second full album, AING ♡ Love Spell, set to be released on June 13th.
