Starlight (별빛) is a three-member girl group under HYPE. The group currently consists of Kim Seon-Mi, Itō Miyū and Oh Gaeul. The group made their debut on July 27, 2023 with their EP MOONLIGHT.
History[]
2021-2022: Pre-debut[]
On March 13 2021, HYPEROOKIES introduced three new members, Kim Seon-Mi, Itō Miyū and Oh Gaeul. Kim Seon-Mi is a South Korean trainee formerly a trainee under YG Entertainment. Itō Miyū is a Japanese trainee who participated in the survival show Girls Planet 999 but was eliminated during the second round of eliminations in the eighth episode of the show. Oh Gaeul is a South Korean trainee that was scouted by a HYPE agent.
On April 12, 2021, the HYPEROOKIES trio released a cover of ZAXB's "No Justice".
In January 2022, HYPE trademarked "Starlight" and a logo, causing fans to speculate about a new group coming from the label.
2023: Reveal and debut with MOONLIGHT[]
On February 15, 2023 HYPE revealed three concept photo of Kim Seon-Mi, Itō Miyū and Oh Gaeul, the label also confirmed the name of the new group to be Starlight and that the group would be making their debut sometime in July.
On July 27, Starlight made their debut with the EP MOONLIGHT.
On July 28, Starlight announced their fandom name BEAM (빔).
