Star Maker X 101 is a survival show that was broadcasted by DIAMOND Entertainment. It premiered on June 25th, 2022. The show aims to create a 10-member boy group from a trainee pool of 101 boys. The final group, SOLUNEX will promote for 1 year after their debut.
Pre-show events[]
On May 25th, 2022, the auditions for Star Maker X 101 were posted for any male trainee or idol from 1994-2008. DIAMOND Entertainment announced the premiere date to be June 20th. On June 4th, 2022, they announced the trainees would be revealed throughout the next week starting June 10th.
Rumored participants[]
- Project SOL contestant and Chinese soloist Roveno Wang announced his auditioning for the show as a "final chance" to debut in Korea.
- An insider stated that a SOLVIZ member auditioned and was accepted into the show. Fans speculate that member Yui was the one accepted due to him having no prior experience being an idol before Project SOL, and the show would give him more training
- He also nervously laughed when asked about fellow members Janghun and Woojin being in Station V, giving fans further confirmation that he is hiding the fact he was accepted.
- Former Aster8 member Azriel posted a picture of him with the caption "Who Will Be The Star 👀", leading fans to believe he auditioned for the show.
Participants who left the show[]
- Kim Dong-min was announced as a contestant on Star Maker X 101, but he left the show before its airing, leading to him being edited out of the only episode in which he participated.
- He was replaced by Lee Jinki of VEGA Media Interactive in the later episodes.

The contestants enter the studio by their agency, where seats are arranged in a pyramid hierarchy numbered from 1 on top to 101. After all 101 boys are seated, Geonu and Hyomin introduce themselves to the trainees and reveal the theme song, "Our Time", produced by Sangwon. Four boys are chosen to become candidates for center: Jason Choi, Wi Yeonwoo, Choi Yujun and Kamikura Shion. Jason Choi receives 85 votes and becomes the official center. The 101 boys are later revealed to have performed the theme song live on music program Music Rank. At the end of the episode, Four Bloc Records' Kyler Kim is revealed to have ranked first place. | |||

The company audition evaluations commence, where they perform in front of the members and are given a letter grade from A to F. Halfway through the evaluations, the contestants vote for the show's top five visuals (Kang Hajoon, Xiong Haoyu, Yoon Seongmin, Choi Sangho, Wang Damryeong) and most chaotic trainees (Oli Tokyo, Tang Sunwoo, Han Yul, Min Taylor, Kim Dante) and compete in a fashion runway challenge. | |||

The company evaluations continue until all 101 contestants receive their individual grades. In the end, the mentors choose their personal top 10 among the A class candidates, who receive the advantage of forming their own teams out of the remaining contestants. In the end, Connection Entertainment's Kwon Aheon is revealed to have ranked 1st place. | |||

Their first group mission, the Universe Battles, are announced. The 10 chosen boys form their own teams, with the leftover trainees who were left behind automatically forming a team of their own. They are given the songs of four popular boy groups: "MAMA" by EXO, "Drunk-Dazed" by ENHYPEN, "Destiny" by Illusion and "Our Way to Go" by FINEKIZ and three girl groups: "La Ta Ta" by (G)I-dle, "Look 2 U" by LUNIVER and "Reinvent Your World" by AREAL. Each song is performed live by two groups and is voted on by the judges. This episode shows the groups rehearsing and assigning roles such as 'center', 'main vocal' and 'main rapper'. Groups contain 9-10 members. Members of the winning group will gain an extra voting benefit. | |||

The first elimination ceremony takes place this episode, with the top 70 moving on to the next round. With online votes and mission benefits included, the ranks of the boys are announced from 69th place to 1st place; PHX Entertainment's Kang Hajoon and Four Bloc Records' Kyler Kim are revealed to be the candidates for 1st place. Kang Hajoon is announced to be 1st. The 70th place candidates are revealed to be PY Studios' Yi Seung-hyeon and independent trainee Pak Hyunwoo. Pak Hyunwoo ranks 70th. The boys ranked 71st-101st are eliminated from the competition. | |||

Two days following the elimination, the next mission, Planet Clashes, are revealed. The 70 trainees are split in teams of 10, 5, 2 and 1, revolving around positions of Vocal, Dance, Rap and Planet Master: the fourth are solo units who will perform three songs in a medley for the audience. One winning team will be chosen per group size. The winners for the 2-member units are revealed to be team "Naughty" while the winner for the 5-member units are revealed to be team "Fantasia". | |||

The Planet Clashes performances continue. Kang Hajoon is declared the winner of the Planet Master units, while team "Love Flower" is revealed to be the winner of the 10-member units. After the performances, LILAC Studios' Xiong Haoyu is revealed to have ranked 1st. Later after the rankings, the boys are later seen to have been gathered to be introduced to the five original songs for the Concept Battles missions: Trance EDM "Sunset" (produced by Hangyeom), pop ballad "Winter Tale" (produced by Sangwon), synth EDM "I'm in Love" (produced by GEMINI), upbeat retro pop "Amazing" (produced by Clover's Minju and Moon) and R&B dance pop "Night" (produced by Geonu). The second eliminaton ceremony takes place this episode, with only 40 boys moving on to the next round. With online votes and mission benefits included, the ranks of the boys are announced from 39th to 1st place; VGD Academy's Yoshikawa Kichiro and LILAC Studios' Xiong Haoyu are revealed to be candidates for 1st place. Xiong Haoyu is announced to be 1st. On the other hand, the candidates for the 40th place are revealed to be AGON Entertainment's Park Jangjin, Galaxia Entertainment's Dae Changmin and Azriel. Azriel ranks 40th place. Following the announcement of the top 40 survivors, a Secret Pass is unveiled by Hyomin, which later turns out to be JGC Entertainment's Choi Myungdae. Following the elimination, the Concept Battle teams are left with an uneven amount of members. The "I'm In Love" team is forced to kick out four members, which are Tang Sunwoo, Park Junmi, Eun Youngsoo and Yi Yongsun. Eun Youngsoo & Yi Yongsun goes to "Sunset" team, Tang Sunwoo goes to "Night" team and Park Junmi goes to "Winter Tale" team. The boys then practice their songs until the day of the Concept Battle teams; all five live performances are aired this episode. Team "Amazing" is declared the winner, receiving a 100,000 vote benefit. In the end, PHX Entertainment's Kang Hajoon is revealed to have ranked 1st place. | |||

The third elimination ceremony takes place this episode, with only 30 boys moving on to the next round; it is also the final fan-voted elimination before the finale. The boys are shocked to discover huge changes in rankings due to a combination of both the change in voting system and the huge benefits of the Concept Battles; with several trainees rising or dropping rapidly in ranks. The trainees who ranked 28th to 1st are announced, with PHX Entertainment's Kang Hajoon and Four Bloc Records' Kyler Kim as candidates for 1st place. Kang Hajoon is announced to have ranked 1st. The nominees for 29th place are revealed to be Big Planet Creative's Seo Hyunwon, DIAMOND Entertainment's Eun Youngsoo and JGC Entertainment's Choi Myungdae. Hyunwon ranks 29th. In the end, the Planet Pass is given to Polaris Entertainment's Yoon Seongmin, saving him from elimination. | |||
