Song Minryeong (송민령) is a South Korean actress and television host under Spring Duck Company. She is most well-known for her roles in the dramas If I Love You, Rich Girl, and You and I, as well as being the host of Pumpkin House.

History[]

Early Life[]

Song Minryeong was born on April 17th, 1996. Her family worked and lived on a farm, and Minryeong grew up surrounded by that lifestyle. From a young age, she was helping her family with work as much as she could. A country girl, Minryeong never really saw a future for herself anywhere but in farming. It was her family's passion, so Minryeong had figured it was hers too.
At the age of 7, Minryeong became fascinated by dramas. Her parents have said that Minryeong had watched an episode of a drama, though they don't remember which one, and fell in love with acting. Something about the episode had made Minryeong develop an interest in acting. From that point on, Minryeong would watch dramas and write down dialouge from scenes, and perform them for her family. She couldn't go into the city for acting lessons, as it cost too much, so Minryeong took to teaching herself the proper techniques. Her small performances were put on for more than just her family, with her parents inviting other farmers from nearby to watch Minryeong's tiny shows.
For middle school, Minryeong's parents decided to let her go to school in the city. Upon joining her school's acting club, Minryeong began to develop her acting skills with other people. In her first year of middle school, she was cast as the second lead female character for the school's play. Minryeong's acting skills were applauded by her drama teacher, who said that Minryeong has a way with line delivery. In her second and third years of middle school, Minryeong gained the lead role in both school plays. She was the captain of the acting club in her third year.
In her first year of high school, Minryeong was once again casted in a lead role for the school play. This time, however, a staff member from Spring Duck Company happened to be in the audience. After the week of performances, Minryeong received a company card, asking her to sign with the company. After consulting with her parents, Minryeong decided to give it a try.

Career[]

In 2011, Minryeong signed with Spring Duck Company. The company had only started up that year, but Minryeong wanted to give them a chance. Balancing her schoolwork and acting lessons, Minryeong auditioned for a few small dramas. She managed to land a small role in a low budget drama, introducing her to the industry. Minryeong acted her heart out with the few small pieces of dialouge she had.
Through the rest of the year, Minryeong took as many small acting jobs as she could. She wanted to get her name out, so that she could find her footing in the industry.
In 2012, Minryeong received her first proper minor role in a drama. She played the character Min Huijun in the horror drama GLASS SHATTER, a young girl who is the older sister of one of the main characters. Although Minryeong had limited lines, she received praise from critics.

In 2019, Minryeong found her first main role in the drama Error In My Ways. Playing as Lee Haeseok, an office worker who falls in love with one of her coworkers, Minryeong showed off why she deserved the role. Her emotional line delivery and expressive acting made viewers keep watching. She contributed to why the drama got high reviews, her character being most viewers' favourite.
In 2020, Minryeong landed another main role in the drama Reaching Out. In the role of Park Haemyun, Minryeong portrays a girl who struggles through a complicated romance with her closed-off apartment neighbour. The drama's emotional intensity is high, and Minryeong shone due to how well it matched her specialty. The drama, despite its success, was only popular in South Korea, so Minryeong didn't receive as much overall praise for her performance.
Minryeong found a new level of success in 2021 with the drama Rich Girl. Playing as the happy and smilely Kim Seyong, Minryeong received critical acclaim for her portrayal of an LGBTQ+ character. As the storyline between Seyong and her love interest, played by Ahn Lina, became more popular than the main romance, Minryeong found herself faced with both praise and criticism. Her more conservative fans were angered by how successful the storyline was, but she gained a lot more international and younger fans. Due to the support from those less conservative fans, Minryeong came out as lesbian in mid-2021.
Throughout 2022, Minryeong focused more on her charitable efforts. She held multiple charity events for a variety of causes.
In 2023, Minryeong announced her relationship with Siyeon of Snowflake. The two had started dating in 2022, but had met in 2019.
