Signal2 (시그널투; also shortened to Si2) is a eight-member girl group under EL Entertainment (formerly under WH Pop). They debuted on January 9, 2018 with their debut single LUV.
History[]
Pre-debut[]
On December 11, 2017, CEO of WH Pop, Moon Eun-tae announced that the 8 members' names from the trainee group WH Girls were revealed and will debut somewhere in January 2018 as WH8. On January 1, 2018, the group name was changed to Signal2.
2018: Debut with LUV, sudden death of Ki-ra and Hara's addition[]
Signal2 debuted on January 9, 2018 with their single LUV. For a rookie group, they've gained a lot of popularity from their fandom (Si Na). Unfortunately, after the release of the second single called Sound in early May of the same year, one of the members of the group, Ki-ra left. In her statement, she wrote:
“ |
Hello, this is Ki-ra. I am unable to continue my activities with you. Even though we gained a lot of popularity, I decided to withdraw from the K-pop industry. Why did I choose to do this? I found out that I was involved in a trainee affair with our agency. I am in mortal danger because of this. For example, I can be attacked during a concert or, worse, I can get killed. That's why I decided to leave the band. Nevertheless, I wish you further successes and 'conquests' not only of Korea, but also of the world with our music. I wish you this with all my heart. Regards, Ki-ra. |
” |
Sadly, she was attacked July 2 the same year. A few hours later, Ki-ra was found by the other member of band - Veena. Ki-ra was immediately taken to hospital but, she was unfortunately passed away at age 24. Her funeral held on July 4, 2018. On this day, the tribute single, Without Her was released.
