On April 28, 2017, Sequoia debuted with the EP Love Flower, with the title track of the same name. The song was well-received by fans and the general public for its cute and innocent sound, and its nature motif. The group received a boost of popularity after appearing on the SGA TV show Pumpkin House.

On August 26, 2017, Sequoia released their first mini-album and second release GIRLS OF THE FOREST with the title track Elemental Beauty. The song became popular with the general public and rose streaming charts, and led Sequoia to receive their first music show win on Music Bank on September 7, 2017.

Because of their successful first two releases and their rising international popularity, Sequoia managed to win the Rookie of the Year award at the 2017 Shining Groove Awards. They won the Hottest Trend Award and the Rookie of the Year Award at the 2017 Seoul Music Performance Awards, where their acceptance speed for the Rookie of the Year Award went viral because of Sophie almost dropping the award.

2018: Fantastic Era, KISS ME Era, LOVELY Era, First World Tour, Song of the Year Awards[]

On January 12, 2018, Sequoia released their first single album and third release Fantastic with the title track of the same name. Due to their recently received rookie awards, Sequoia rose in popularity more through this comeback. They also began uploading their own variety show, titled Sequoia of the Forest, to their YouTube channel weekly.

Due to a performance of a few different songs by bigger groups, Sequoia gained a rise in international fans. On May 12, 2018, Sequoia released their second single album and fourth release KISS ME, with the title track of the same name. The song became super popular with their international fans.

From July to August 2018, Sequoia held their first world tour. Their international rise in popularity prompted them to add more dates to their tour than they had originally.

On October 14, 2018, Sequoia released their second EP and fifth release LOVELY, with the title track Loving You. The song became an instant hit, both domestically and with international fans. It rose to the top of music charts, and stayed there for longer than any of their songs before this song.

In the awards season, Sequoia picked up many awards. They got the Song of the Year award for Loving You and the Fan Choice award at the 2018 Shining Groove Awards, where they were praised for their performance and their outfits, which consisted of fluffy white dresses and tiaras. They got the Song of the Year award for Loving You and the Worldwide Listeners' Choice award at the 2018 Seoul Music Performance Awards.

2019: LUXURIOUS Era, CLIQUE Era, SPARKLING Era, Second World Tour[]

On April 24th, 2019, Sequoia released their second mini-album and sixth release, LUXURIOUS, with the title track of the same name. The track, which was confident and strong, stood out in the charts. The song gained recognition through the multitudes of dance covers that appeared across social media after its release.

From May to June 2019, Sequoia held their second world tour. With stops in cities that they had not performed in from the previous world tour, Sequoia managed to attract a distinctly higher amount of fans to each concert.

On August 21st, 2019, Sequoia released their third single album and seventh release, CLIQUE, with the title track of the same name. The song, which continued the powerful sound of the previous title track, did not perform as well, but Sequoia did not see it as a failure.

On October 24th, 2019, Sequoia released their third EP and eighth release, SPARKLING, with the title track of the same name. Compared to their previous release, the EP was successful. The music video for the title track received a significantly higher amount of views in the first week than Sequoia was expecting, due to the music video's fun vibes.

Contrasting to their 2018 awards season, Sequoia only picked up one award in the 2019 awards season. Despite it being their only award, Sequoia managed to secure a major achievement. They received the Artist of the Year award at the Shining Groove Awards. They were also nominated for the Best Female Group Award at the Seoul Music Performance Awards.

2020: Naturally Era, Beautifully Era[]

On April 21st, 2020, Sequoia released their first studio album and ninth release, Naturally, with the title track Tell Me That You Love Me. The song took on a retro concept, with a groovy beat and fun sound. The classy and fun track gave Sequoia an unexpected boost in popularity, taking over the charts. The song became a dance sensation, people dressing up in retro dresses to perform dance covers.

On October 21st, 2020, Sequoia released their first repackaged album and tenth release, Beautifully, with the title track Rose Tea. The elegant and fun song continued a bit of the classy aspect of the main album's title track, but ditched the retro concept. The point dance, which was a hand movement that looked like sipping tea while kicking one leg out and leaning back, gained a lot of attention through dance covers. Although the song wasn't as popular as their previous title track, it still performed well.

Due to the success of their two albums, Sequoia had a good awards season. At The Asian Performing Arts Awards, Sequoia won Song of the Year for Tell Me That You Love Me, Best Female Group, and Best Dance Performance (Female) for Tell Me That You Love Me, as well as being nominated for Best Vocal Performance (Female) for Tell Me That You Love Me. At the Shining Groove Awards, they won Seoul General Arts Song of the Year for Tell Me That You Love Me. On February 18th, 2021, Sequoia released their third mini-album and eleventh release, RAINBOWS, with the title track of the same name. Although the song was fun and upbeat, it didn't perform as well as Sequoia wanted. Despite this, fans turned it into a dance trend.

On May 17th, 2021, Sequoia made their English debut with their fourth EP and twelfth release, Welcome To My Carnival, with the title track of the same name. The song was a b-side on RAINBOWS, and was chosen as the title track due to its popularity. The strange yet fun vibes of the song made it gain more populairty, and the release performed relatively well on English charts.

On October 15th, 2021, Sequoia released their fourth mini-album and thirteenth release, LAKE, with the title track Tide. The song performed much better than RAINBOWS, and the mini-album sold very well. The gentle and strange vibes of the release was applauded by fans, and it was what Sequoia needed to boost their popularity back up.

The awards season wasn't as successful as 2020, but Sequoia managed to grab a couple awards. At the Shining Groove Awards, Sequoia won Seoul General Arts Artist of the Year. At the MBS Artist Awards, Sequoia won the Hit Artist Award for the 4th quarter.
