SHARKTOOTH Entertainment is the Featured Company of July 2024

SHARKTOOTH Entertainment (샤크투스 엔터테인먼트; formerly known as KIMYU ENT.) is a South Korean entertainment agency and label founded in 2014 by retired actress Kim Yuwon.

History[]

Pre-Establishment ( 2011 - 2013 )[]

Kim Yuwon was a fairly well known actress, who had, despite her fame, faced intense management issues in regards to certain opportunities and sponsorships taken away from her in favor for her male costars. Wether it be brand deals, acting roles, fashion show appearances, etc. Yuwon received the message that these companies were merely interested in her name and status rather than her actual future activities.

In 2012, Yuwon left her previous company, making a public statement that the company had severely mistreated her and that she wished them hell. Controversial at the time, Yuwon to this day doesn't regret her words at all.

Working as an independent freelance model for about a year, by the end of 2013, news broke out that she had purchased an enormous plot of real estate, and renovations for the building began immediately. It was a shock than an actress at the time held so much money to be able to fully buy, renovate, and refurnish an entire corporate building, and yet Miss Kim Yuwon had done what many doubters believed to be completely impossible.

2014[]

In 2014, Yuwon announced her own company, KIMYU ENT. to hold out her solo activities and schedules. With a team handpicked and selected by her alone, the public noticed a high rise in Yukon's presence throughout the whole of South Korea. Her name and face was seen all throughout and her influence exploded.

That same year, Yuwon's former label attempted to sue her on accounts of defamation. These claims were refuted and stated by the Korean court to be false and lacking in support and evidence. K-netz described the issue as "embarrassing" "a waste of time" and "a disgrace of a conflict". In January of 2015, that label shut down, most likely due to bankruptcy as many of their remaining personalities terminated their contracts.

2015-2017[]

She retired from the acting industry in 2015, which came as a huge shock to everyone, especially considering the fact that she had fought off strongly to escape her previous label and continue her acting roles. When asked why, Yuwon stated that acting no longer aligned with the vision she saw for her future anymore. She decided that she was much more suited for a management/company CEO position and would put her full focus on cementing her company's brand for the following next years. She made sure to clarify that she'll continue to use her company for other uses, such as projects that she feels particularly strong about however.

In 2017, the company took a sudden shift, as they randomly plastered messages online and in person that they will begin to hold idol trainee auditions and courses. While many were skeptical of the sudden career change, it ended up being for the better as the KIMYU ENT's revenue and holds increased tremendously so.

On the first day alone, the company received an overwhelming 142 hopeful trainees, all of which had passed. While some had clearly underdeveloped skills, Yuwon at the time didn't have the heart to reject anyone. Also, she truly believed that everyone who had the courage to audition that day deserved the opportunity to chase their dreams, and did everything in her power to make sure that this first batch of trainers succeeded. From then on, every wave of trainees was given a name to represent their "generation" of joining the company.

The trainee plan was that trainees would interact and train alongside other trainees within their generation before potentially moving to a more specialized group. This was to ensure that trainees were able to cultivate their skills in healthy and familiar environments, and ensured that those who did show potential and improved skills could continue their training while those who required more focus would be able to do so without feeling pressured or demotivated.

2018[]

In 2018, the company rebranded as SHARKTOOTH Entertainment. The name comes from a personal story of Chairwoman Yuwon. While on vacation, out in the ocean, there were rumors of an alleged shark attack at that beach. At the time, Yuwon had no idea. As she was aimlessly minding her business, far out from the sandy terrain, she heard screams out in the distance, people running away yelling, "Shark! Shark!" Fearing for the worst, Yuwon swam as fast as she could out to safety, making it back safely and without a fatal shark encounter. However, upon reaching the shore, she found her eyes glued upon an item that glistened in the sunlight. Picking it up, she uncovered a shark tooth. Taking this as a sign, Yuwon decided to rebrand her company in honor of what a shark tooth represents; Strength, Resilience, and Protection, all of which she hoped to offer to the community through her efforts.

Yuwon officially declared to have completed her first team of trainees, dubbing them "SHARKTOOTH LITE Trainees". They represented the group of trainees who demonstrated the best of the best skills. Originally planned to debut as two separate groups, Yuwon decided to postpone their debut to ensure that no possible mishaps, scandals, or issues would arise concerning their debut. During this time, the group went through lineup changes, name alterations, differing lineups, and added training procedures. This method and process took much longer than expected however, and with new business proposals on the horizon, the planning of the group was pushed to the sidelines.

2020[]

On the prospect of business, SHARKTOOTH Entertainment acquired TrialStart Studios as a subsidiary company, alongside their only artists at the time, SPACESHUTTLE and Vitamin. This was received with mixed reactions as many felt as though the company was moving far too fast and would not only burn out resources, but also the novelty and appeal of what makes the label so enticing. Seeing as SHARKTOOTH had already established and garnered an enormous amount of resources, in producers, trainers, choreographers, etc., and were able to create a collaborative effort to elevate SPACESHUTTLE into a force of nature within the K-pop sphere, while also helping to catapult Vitamin into being a common namesake amongst the public.

2023[]

In 2023, they debuted their first boy group, DREADNOUGHT, exclusive to their label. It was later revealed that this team had been in the works since 2018, with the lineup changing a multitude of times before ultimately ending up with the current lineup.

2024[]

On February 1, 2024, the company's social media accounts revealed an upcoming project. The following day, it revealed that a girl group, which was later found to be named MACADAMIA, was in the works. They were originally slated to debut in March, however, the debut was postponed and pushed to later. They officially debuted on April 26, 2024. Plans for the group eventually fell through, however, as their career ended up being short-lived, as they moved to another project, eventually becoming duové.

2025[]

When duové debuted, it was revealed that they would be overseen by a new subsidiary company, Time of Our Lives, or TOUL, as the first artists under their company.
