QUANTUM (권텀) was a project boy group under BE: ONE LAB and Aiki Promotion. They were formed through XS's competition reality show Search The Cosmos, with the final lineup consisting of seven trainees from various entertainment companies: Kang Haegyu, Takanashi Isamu, Hwang Yuwon, Kim Sangwoo, Yoon Jihan, Momoi Masayuki, and Won Eunjin. They debuted on April 28, 2022 with their first mini album CONTINUM: Quantum Physics. They disbanded in September 2023 after the expiration of their contracts.

History[]

Pre-debut[]

BE: ONE LAB announced a new boy group survival show titled Search The Cosmos in collaboration with XS. The show premiered on March 8, 2022 and its finale aired on April 10, 2022 with the 7 winners forming a boy group. The group's debut lineup included Kang Haegyu from BrightPalette Entertainment, Takanashi Isamu from Heaven's Entertainment, Hwang Yuwon from StarLight Entertainment, Kim Sangwoo from MyDon Entertainment, Yoon Jihan from Four Bloc Entertainment, Momoi Masayuki, an independent trainee and Won Eunjin from AGON Entertainment.

2022: Debut with Quantum Physics, Sangwoo's hiatus, first comeback and Japanese debut[]

On April 28, 2022, QUANTUM released their debut mini album CONTINUM: Quantum Physics. On April 30, 2022, the group won their first music show trophy on Music Rank, becoming one of the fastest idols to win after their debut.

On May 27, Sangwoo's contract with his company CNA Entertainment was terminated for an undisclosed contract violation, however, BE: ONE LAB released a statement saying that he will still be part of the group. On June 4, BE: ONE LAB announced that Sangwoo would be taking a hiatus from group activities due to the bullying accusations made against him. Thus, QUANTUM will be carrying out activities as 6 members for the time being.

On June 16, BE: ONE LAB released a coming soon poster for the group's first comeback release. On the midnight of June 18, it was announced that QUANTUM would be releasing their second mini album, "CONTINUM: Quantum Mechanics", on June 25. On July 24, BE: ONE LAB released a statement that Sangwoo has returned from his hiatus and would start promoting with the group.

On October 13, Aiki Promotion announced that the group would be debuting in Japan with an album titled Unregretful on October 19th, including Japanese versions of the group's title tracks. Two days later, the tracklist was revealed. However, on October 19th, the company announced through a letter that member Eunjin had gotten sick and other staff members too, making the album postponed to October 30th.

Unregretful was released on October 30, 2022, with the title song "Gimme Gimme" as the group's Japanese debut. Due to the Itaewon tragedy, the album was not promoted in its first week to pay mourning to the victims.

On December 15, 2022, Spotify announced that they will release a Spotify single with QUANTUM on December 18th, later on they specified that it will be a holiday remix of the group's debut song "Flash". On that day "Flash (Holiday Remix)" was released exclusively on Spotify, the following day it was released on remaining music platforms.

2023: THE MOVEMENT[]

On January 5, 2023, it was announced that QUANTUM had a comeback schedule for the first quarter of the year. The next day, it was announced that their third mini album, THE MOVEMENT, was going to be released between January to March. On January 26, a comeback trailer was released followed by concept photos the next week. The comeback was revealed to be released on March 15, 2023 with the title track "Back Down".
