History[]
Early Life[]
Park Sungwoo was born on April 19th, 2003, in Ansan, South Korea. Throughout his childhood, Sungwoo was very involved with art. His parents signed him up for youth painting and sketching classes and Sungwoo took to them well.[1] At age 5, Sungwoo had a piece of art he made put in a local art museum’s gallery because he won a youth art contest. He was noted for having a good grasp of colour and space despite his young age.[2]
In elementary school, Sungwoo flourished in his art classes. His art teacher helped him develop his style and encouraged him to pursue other artistic interests. In his fourth year of elementary school, Sungwoo became interested in K-pop, and in turn, dance.[2] Sungwoo, along with sketching classes he took, began taking dance lessons outside of school. In his first year of middle school, Sungwoo won a large art contest in Ansan. He received offers from various art schools in Seoul, but Sungwoo declined the offers because he was not interested in leaving his friends.[3]
For high school, Sungwoo decided that attending an art school would be beneficial for his development as an artist. His family moved to Seoul and Sungwoo accepted an offer from a prestigious art high school.[2] Sungwoo realized he wanted to become an idol through the dance classes at the school. He enjoyed dance, and his love for K-pop was growing, so he wanted to pursue being an idol.[1] Sungwoo auditioned for StarLight Entertainment.
Pre-debut[]
In 2019, Sungwoo joined StarLight Entertainment. He focused mostly on growing as a dancer, as he was inexperienced in rapping and singing.[2] Sungwoo adjusted the classes he took at the art school to match more with his idol training.[1] Sungwoo was introduced as a part of the Star Trainees in February 2020.

Career[]
Idolix[]
On February 24th, 2021, Sungwoo debuted as the center, lead dancer, and vocalist of ix-cite with the mini-album ix-citement. He was also the cover for ESSENCE Magazine for their February release. During promotions, Sungwoo received backlash from netizens who had felt like his votes were rigged in the finale of Idolix. As Sungwoo had been the center several times throughout Idolix, netizens were worried that the producers had manipulated his votes to make him the center of ix-cite. Although Sungwoo received more support than the backlash, an investigation was ordered. When it was revealed in March that there had been no manipulation of voting, the negative attention on Sungwoo subsided.[4] Due to ix-cite’s growing popularity throughout 2021, Sungwoo was nicknamed Spotlight Boy by fans because he had a large amount of fansites who would show up at the group’s schedules.
During the 2021 awards season, ix-cite received multiple rookie awards. Sungwoo received attention online for how he almost cried every time ix-cite received an award. Sungwoo explained that he had been very emotional, as he was concerned that they would be overlooked and ignored due to being a survival show group with a shorter contract. He knew that the group had a lot of support, but he did not realize how many fans the group had at that time.[5]
During promotions for ix-traordinary in January 2022, Sungwoo received a lot of praise for his improvement since ix-cite’s debut. He was listed as an idol to watch in 2022 by HallyuMix Magazine. At Highlight Fiesta in June, Sungwoo was announced to be one of the next MCs for Hallyumak.
Sungwoo, along with Choi Dahyun, became the MCs for Hallyumak. The duo was named MC Dabi, which was a combination of Dahyun’s name and the Korean word for butterfly as Sungwoo is a social butterfly. The two 2021 rookies captured the hearts of the South Korean MC scene and became beloved by the general public. Sungwoo earned respect for his charisma and how he was always full of good questions for other idols. In November 2022, at the 2022 Asia Rising Artist Awards, Sungwoo and Dahyun won the Best Favourite MC on Music Shows award. Sungwoo stepped down from being an MC for Hallyumak in June 2023.
In February 2024, ix-cite released their disbandment album. The group disbanded in March.
