ORCHID (난초) is a seven-member project boy group under 32 MEDIA. Formed through KBS2's reality survival show Turbo Max, they debuted on September 25, 2022 with the mini album Bloom.

They are named after the flower of the same name which usually represent purity and grace.

The project group had a special contract to release one album as a group before disbanding as a way to introduce the members to the entertainment world. They officially disbanded on January 25, 2023 after four months of activities.

History[]

Formation with Turbo Max[]

ORCHID was formed through the reality survival competition show Turbo Max, which aired on KBS2 and 32N from May 27 to July 29, 2022. The show starred 16 trainees of 32 MEDIA and the final seven were announced via live television broadcast.

Prior to the show, three members had already been active in the entertainment industry. Insu first debuted as a member of ANGELIZE in 2017 and promoted with the group until their disbandment in 2020; Daejung had been modelling for two decades and was a member of SMROOKIES, and Seungmin had debuted in group Tomorrow Moon and been a member of pre-debut kids trainee trio group Lords.

2022: Bloom[]

Following Turbo Max's end, a behind the scenes clip of the finale was posted on August 1 to ORCHID's official Youtube channel. The boys began promoting songs from the album Turbo Max: The Album, consisting of songs from the finale. On August 5, the boys performed the ballad "At Your Best" on Music Bank, leading the song to reach #25 on the Circle Digital Chart. On August 11, the boys travelled to Japan to perform the song "Dreamwork" on Music Station, and on August 21, they performed "Eclipse" alongside the new version of the shows theme song at KCON LA. The members performed "Let Me Fly" at the K Global Heart Dream Awards on August 25, as well as Ryozo performing a special opening stage with C9PID's Dahyun, covering The House by FINEKIZ. They held their first VLIVE on August 28, where they revealed their fandom name, PETALS. Their profile photos were released across their social medias and the 32M website on September 2.

ORCHID were revealed to be debuting on September 25 through an announcement post revealing the name and date, with the album becoming available for pre-order on September 11. ORCHID officially debuted on September 25, 2022 with the mini album Bloom. ORCHID achieved their first music program win on October 9 on Hallyumak for "Dilemma". The music video for "Dilemma" surpassed 40 million views on the same day. Bloom sold 192,019 copies in its first week, debuting at number one on the Circle Album Chart. It later ranked at number five on the Circle Monthly Album Chart with 200,092 copies sold. On October 23, a vlog series began airing on ORCHID's youtube channel entitled Orchid Bloom, following the members on different schedules & daily activities filmed by themselves and edited by member Donghyuck. Similarly, on October 27 a web-reality show, The Orchid's First Bloom started airing on the groups official Youtube account weekly chronicling the preparation for their debut and the journey as seven.

On January 25, 2023, ORCHID held a live stream on their official instagram to say goodbye to their fans after their four month group run came to an end. The members all went their separate ways following the groups disbandment.
