New Superstar Girls is a girl group survival show created in 2021 by ShineStar Entertainment to create a new multinational girl group. It was broadcasted on M-net and livestreamed on their YouTube channel M-net KPOP. The show is the first season in the New Superstar franchise. ShineStar Entertainment revealed that the second season would feature male trainees from South Korea, China and Japan, called New Superstar Boys

ShineStar Entertainment opened auditions in 2019 for female trainees where more than 20 thousand girls applied for, but only 30 where selected. They were meant to be in girl groups, but ShineStar Entertainment decided to create a survival show where all trainees would become contestants, and only 12 were able to debut.
