NewEnergy (뉴에너지), alternatively stylized as NE, was a pre-debut twelve member girl group under PY Studios. Originally, the group was to debut in March of 2021 after the group completed 2 years of training, however the project seemingly was called off according to member Kim Wonmi on January 2, 2021, resulting in the groups unofficial disbandment.
The group was split into 2 units: N3W being the vocal unit and EN3RGY being the performance unit.
History[]
2019: Member reveals, debut plans[]
On May 27, a group photo featuring 6 members was posted with the name N3W, followed by a second group photo featuring 6 members with the name EN3RGY on May 28. The next day, a full group photo was posted under the name NewEnergy.
On June 20, after almost a month of no activity, PY Studios announced the groups plans to debut 2 years later in 2021, after the group completed 2 years of training. The next day, Koo Hyoryeon was revealed as the first member, followed by Yun Hyewon on June 22, Kwon Seohui on June 23, Yoo Jinhee on June 24, Kim Bohee on June 25, and Kang Jeongmi on June 26. The members were revealed as members of the group unit EN3RGY.
On July 3, Kim Wonmi was revealed as the seventh member, followed by Kye Won on July 4, Han Jiyoung on July 5, Yang Sojin on July 6, Won Jeongyi on July 7, and finally Park Hajin on July 8. The members were revealed as members of the group unit N3W.
2020: Departures of Han Jiyoung and Koo Hyoryeon, additions of Ryu Taereung and Lee Yeoreum[]
On May 27, it was announced that from recent serious conversations with the agency and the group, Han Jiyoung and Koo Hyoryeon would be leaving the group due to health issues and to focus on studies. Han Jiyoung remained in the agency to make a modelling debut, while Koo Hyoryeon would leave the agency. Han Jiyoung would end up leaving the agency in October of 2020.
On September 2, new members Ryu Taereung and Lee Yeoreum were revealed from their official teasers. It was also announced that the group aims to finally debut in January of 2021, with the units debuting prior.
2021: Cancelled debut[]
The units N3W and EN3RGY were supposedly debuting in January, but PY Studios announced that the group debut would be postponed to March to ensure better quality.
On January 2. Kim Wonmi announced on the groups Instagram that the group would not make their debut as PY Studios had called off the project. She followed up with another post on her account a day later that revealed that herself and members Ryu Taereung, Kim Bohee, Kye Won, Won Jeongyi, Yun Hyewon, Yoo Jinhee, Yang Sojin, and Kang Jeongmi had terminated their contracts, while Park Hajin, Kwon Seohui, and Lee Yeoreum would remain with the company.
Aftermath[]
Park Hajin, Kwon Seohui, and Lee Yeoreum transferred to PY Family in August of 2022 to focus on acting.
Ryu Taereung and Kye Won were revealed as pre-debut members of YWH Rookies on March 25 and 21 respectfully. Ryu Taereung managed to place 6th in the reality show Form the MUXE, allowing her to debut with A-MUXE. Kye Won left Yeongwonhi Entertainment soon after the lineup announcement.
In 2022, Kim Bohee, under the stage name KimBoe, was revealed as a member of 12ME.
Sometime in 2023, Won Jeongyi was announced as a member of the 24 member group 24HR.
On January 30, 2024, Yang Sojin was announced as a contestant on Dingle Dangle under her birth name Yoo Kyewang.
The consequences of the rest of the members are unknown.
