“ | Flow with you, hello we are NAIAD! (Flow with you, 안녕하세요, 나이아드입니다!) |
„ |
– NAIAD's greeting |
NAIAD (Korean: 나이아드, Japanese: ナイアード), is a South Korean girl group formed by Heaven's Entertainment. The group consists of five members: Iris, Dylan, Anemone, Navy, and Akemi. They debuted on August 13, 2018, with the mini album, Anthem of Tides.
Concept[]

Hylas and the Nymphs (1896) by John William Waterhouse.
The Naiad Greek mythology heavily inspires NAIAD's concept. In mythology, Naiads are water nymphs who dwelled within fresh-water sources, including springs, rivers, lakes, fountains and wells, and marshes and wetlands. They are considered minor goddesses who were allowed to attend gatherings on Mount Olympus. Due to their association with the gods, naiads or water nymphs are classified by the domains they dwell and protect:
Note: The role of each naiad has been modified by Heaven’s Entertainment and slightly deviated from the mythology.
- Naiads of Springs (Pegaiai); The ones most often individualized and worshipped. The waters were believed to have healing properties that could cure diseases.
- Naiads of Fountains (Krenaiai); Similar to their other counterparts, Naiads of Fountain and Wells are the protectors of young maidens, watching over their safe transition from child to adulthood.
- Naiads of Rivers (Potameides): A daughter of a river god. She fled from her domain after killing her supposedly future husband, who tried to “take advantage” of her.
- Naiads of Lakes (Limnades): Naiads with jealous tendencies. They would not hesitate to do whatever it takes to win the heart of the people they are in love with.
- Naiads of Wetlands (Heleionomai): They are easily angered by humans. If they felt they had been wronged, they would cause a human to become lost within the marshes and swamps.
NAIAD divides their releases into two chapters:
- The 「 Recursive Lifetime 」Chapter; spans from Anthem of Tides (2018) — Shinotsuku Ame (2022). The five naiads' prior life as a group of nymphs and their subsequent reunion in the current day are the central themes of this chapter.
- The 「 Resonant Heart 」Chapter; spans from Drama Alert (2022) — True Beauty (2023). This second part picks up where the first left off, chronicling the tale of the five naiads and their quest to share their music with the world.
Name[]
The lore was built upon the group's name, NAIAD, which is the acronym of each member's stage names (Navy, Anemone, Iris, Akemi, and Dylan).
Career[]
2014–2018: The Creation of Eve[]

“ | Michelangelo's "The Creation of Adam" is typically interpreted as showing God and the human mind side by side. However, some have suggested that it depicts the birth process, or Eve's rib. | „ |
The plan for Heaven's Entertainment's first girl group was initially formed by the agency in 2014, several months after they debuted their first artist 6topia. The group was intended to be a four-member group which consists of Park Juna, Qin Suyin, Cha Seongeun, and Kurokawa Akemi. After Dylan joined the label as a trainee a year later, the lineup expanded to five members. In December 2017, the debut date for the second half of 2018 was set.
Before debuting, each members had significant past experiences that affected their career and joining to Heaven's Entertainment as a trainee:

On May 25, 2018, NAIAD was the first girl group to be introduced by Heaven's Entertainment four years after the label debuted 6topia. The five members were revealed individually in five weeks from May 31 to June 27 through a series of member introduction trailers (in order: Navy, Akemi, Iris, Anemone, and Dylan). NAIAD was introduced to be a Greek mythology-themed group, with their music highlighting their overarching concept of 'found family.'
The public's reaction to NAIAD's debut announcement was lukewarm at best. The recent domestic and international success of 6topia's mega hit song "Please Insert Coin" has piqued the interest of many in what Heaven's Entertainment has in store for NAIAD. However, others, especially Utopians, saw this as Heaven's being an opportunist by introducing a new group rather than focusing on promoting 6topia. Nevertheless, co-CEOs Kang Yeona and Hyunwoo have made it crystal clear that 2018 was the year they decided NAIAD would debut. As a result of this declaration, speculation arose that Heaven's was using 6topia as a "prototype group," with the intention of using the group to gain managerial experience before disbanding them and putting all their resources into perfecting the "golden group" that is NAIAD. This theory was immediately squashed by the fact that Heaven's could've just disbanded them when they were still nugu 2 years earlier. In fact, it was thanks to 6topia's success that Heaven's gained the resources to promote 6topia further while at the same time launch their new girl group. The combined success of these two acts will serve as the company's guiding light.
During the five weeks of members' introduction, Heaven's announced the group's debut mini album, Anthem of Tides, which was released on August 13, 2018, marking the group debut. Their debut showcase was held at Jangchung Arena on their debut day.
The album contains six tracks co-written and co-composed by the members, following the example of 6topia. It is preceded by the lead single "Springtide." The song further cements Heaven's executive producer, Hyunwoo's, reputation as a "gambler" because he enjoys experimenting with sound. Despite the fact that NAIAD has just recently debuted, fans refer to "Springtide" as an experiment because its 80s techno-pop sound is uncommon among K-pop artists, let alone girl groups. For the GP, the song became a huge hit or miss. In the first week, it received over 6 million views on YouTube, and only 19 days (September 1) after their debut, they won their first music show win on MBC's Show! Music Core, unfortunately the only win they received through "Springtide." On August 28, one week after its release, "Springtide" debuted at number 30 on the Gaon Digital Chart. The mini album "Anthem of Tides" debuted at number six in the first week, selling 10,537 album copies, and peaked at number four on Billboard's World Albums chart on August 20. They also debuted at number 34 on Billboard's Social 50 Chart. "Springtide"'s initial success was short-lived, and the B-sides from Anthem of Tides were not well received by the general audience, but they were adored by new fans and even reviewers. "Springtide" was ranked 19th on Dazed's list of the Top 20 Best K-pop Songs of 2018. Although they had a rough start, NAIAD is off to a solid start for a group coming from a young company....that is until the fansign controversy occured only 1.5 months after their debut.
NAIAD's fansign controversy[]
⚠️ TRIGGER WARNING This page includes mentions of misogynistic comments and harassment and may be sensitive to certain readers. |
---|
To better promote Anthem of Tides and to improve their relationship with their fans, Diana, NAIAD held a second fansign on September 23, 2018. However, unlike their first fansign, there was a man in their early 30s who attended the fansign with an ulterior motive. When it was his chance to speak face to face with Akemi, he stripped down to his underpants in front of her, exposing his freaky intention to show off his muscles. Akemi was only 17 at the time.
“ | I though this was a classy party. | „ |
– A Diana who attended the fanmeeting. |
Iris, the leader, was furious at the man's harassment toward Akemi, and demanded that he leave the premises immediately. Navy, who had been sitting next to Akemi, pulled and took her to the dressing room without wasting a second, as Dylan and Anemone joined Iris in trying to shoo the man away. After making a scene and insisting he was only attempting to impress Akemi, security eventually took him away. Due to Akemi's emotional state following the incident, Heaven's forced to cut short the fansign.
Later, a hidden camera film of the events was released on YouTube, where it quickly racked up 5 million views overnight, embarrassingly surpassing the 2.4 million views that the "Springtide" music video received in the same time frame. The uploader took down the video the next day, but by then the flames had spread over the South Korean internet. Although it was clear that the "abs guy" was in the wrong and Iris and Akemi's reaction was warranted, the internet community became divided over the issue.
“ |
Heol... They barely debuted and already acted so arrogantly? Jinjja michin. |
” |
“ |
I pity 6topia and Heaven's. They'll get backlash from these SJW warriors wannabe. |
” |
“ |
If that guy doesn't have abs she would've slapped him instead. Double standard much? |
” |
“ |
AND FUCK ALL OF YOU. IF THAT MAN IS NOT CONVENTIONALLY ATTRACTIVE Y’ALL WOULD SHIT ON HIM INSTEAD OF MY GIRLS. SHUT THE FUCK UP YOU MYSOGYNISTIC PIECE OF SHITS. DOUBLE STANDARD MY ASS SUCK MY HORSE DICK |
” |
“ |
They're acting like they're all that is so ㅋㅋㅋㅋ I bet Akemi secretly enjoyed watching that man's abs. |
” |
“ |
Nakhias downfall ouuu I've prayed for times like this!!! DAEBAKKKK |
” |
And the endless pannchoa commentary continues. In the weeks immediately following the incident, most people defended the man, stating that Iris was being "too sensitive" and overreacting. The perpetrator, who only identified himself as "KD," was let off the hook and continues to use his Instagram account as normal.
Thank god Heaven’s didn’t listen to the outrage; and instead, amended the fansign rule for NAIAD. Until Akemi turned 18, in June 2019, only men under the age of 20 and women of all age are allowed to attend the fansign, which further caused the outrage caused by people who defended KD.
No amount of online PR efforts by Dianas could save NAIAD's reputation from inevitable doom. See how fucked up the society when women were only trying to protect themselves? Instead of blaming the trash that is a man they’d blame the victim instead just because she’s a woman. The girls understand that they live in a world where they will be scrutinized by men, but they can't fathom why other women also jump on the hate train.
However, it wasn't until nearly 2 months after the incident that people finally understood what had happened. The hashtag #WeStandWithNAIAD trended all over the world—and yes, the case has became so big it became both national and international news at that time. No Heaven's group would be complete without controversy stirred by those intent on doing them harm. People from all around the world used the hashtag to tweet over half a million times, pleading for KD to be sued and for NAIAD to be released from the undeserved lashings.
Some of the biggest names in K-pop have shown their support for the rookie group by posting images of the mermaid or trident that serves as NAIAD's official insignia. Notable names who showed their solidarity with NAIAD include Geonu, Meita, FINEKIZ Woojin, LuckY BLU and Sienna, 3Hearts Hanna, Sequoia Haewon, INFIN81 Hyeonjae and Juni, HEART2HEART Kyubin, Fang, and Luck, and last but not least NAIAD's labelmates and senior, 6topia members. Due to the exposure they got from their idols, the whole K-pop Fandom has banded together to seek justice for NAIAD members—an event that happens once in a blue moon.
In the following week, a true miracle happened. A video of "KD" was posted on Twitter anonymously, allegedly taken just before he attended that fansign shows him bragging to his friends about his plans to strip in front of the girls since he gets "extremely horny" around them. Like the first fansign controversy video, this one went viral very quickly. Rapidly shifting public opinion, which had been opposed to NAIAD members, the video showed that KD had a really fucked up intention towards the girls, and therefore should be jailed immediately. And that Heaven’s did.
Using the video as an evidence, and several other videos submitted by Dianas who attended the fansign that day, Heaven’s sued KD—and after just two weeks of the legal battle, KD was fined with 15 million won ($11,377); stripped off his job and status, and banned from using public transportations. Years after this event, KD allegedly ended up homeless and living in utter despair, with no one to turn to for help. His parents apparently disowned him as well. Because of the low level of awareness about what constitutes sexual harassment in Korea's still patriarchal society, this victory was significant not only for NAIAD but for women in South Korea as well.
NAIAD's reputation has been restored and they were regarded as influential women icons to some people, especially their beloved fans, Diana. Who posted that video of KD? No one knows. This is eerily similar to what happened with the burning of Heaven's a year later in 2019...the mystery persisted up to this day, but at least the girlies got a happy ending.
2019: Water Mirror, Japanese debut, and sudden hiatus[]

NAIAD members preparing for their first comeback.
“ | The pain from that incident...I can still feel it even now. It was only thanks to my girls who never stopped taking care of each other, and so many people out there who joined us in standing up to that injustice gave us the courage and strength to overcome it. | „ |
– Iris about the fansign controversy. |
After restoring their reputation and overcoming the infamous harasser at their second fansign, 2019 seemed like a fresh start for NAIAD. More people are paying attention to NAIAD now than before the incident, so the group is eager to drop their first comeback, which they're calling a "step up" from their debut. What they didn't foresee was how successful their second mini album was compared to its predecessor.
On January 22, Heaven's Entertainment posted a visual film on YouTube which included an announcement that the group would make their first comeback on February 20 with a mini album titled Water Mirror. The group carried "the hidden past life as naiads" concept from Anthem of Tides to their next work. Musically, the album incorporates several genres including R&B, electro-pop, synth-pop and hip hop. The mini album sold 35,243 copies in the first week, setting a new record for the group. Subsequently, Water Mirror peaked at #5 on Gaon Album and #4 on Oricon Overseas Album Charts, attesting to the growth of their fandom in South Korea and Japan. The album was released with the title track, "Fantasea". The music video had over 5.5 million views on YouTube in less than 24 hours. On February 22, "Fantasea" became the first NAIAD song to enter Bugs top 10, and it also reached #2 on the Billboard World Digital Song Sales list. "Fantasea" took home three music show wins in total.
On May 18, 2019, NAIAD performed at KCON Japan 2019, the group's first Japanese and overseas performance. During that time, they were constantly followed by Japanese media outlets interested in the fansign controversy; nevertheless, Heaven's consistently declined these outlets' requests to interview the girls, explaining that the incident had been traumatizing the members and was now in the past.
Following their debut Japanese performance, On May 29, NAIAD made their Japanese debut with the single album Kyouka Suigetsu. On the first week of its release, Kyouka Suigetsu sold 12.676 copies and peaked at 4 on Oricon's Daily Album ranking.
However, in the midst of their promotion in Japan, NAIAD was forced to abruptly suspend their activities after the Heaven's Entertainment building was burned down by fire in June 2019 at the behest of the agency's long-time adversary Lee Dongchul. After what happened, NAIAD called off all of their performances and sent their members back to their home countries to rest. During their time apart, they found new ways to interact and creatively work on their music.
2020-2022: Blue Dancers[]

2020: Out of the Blue and rise in popularity[]

Preparation for Out of the Blue.
In February 2020, Heaven's rented a temporary office and studio, allowing NAIAD to reunite just in time before the South Korean government had to enforce a nationwide COVID-19 lockdown. NAIAD members and Heaven's producers then continued to create the group's first album, Out of the Blue, by continually exchanging digital files of instrumentals and vocals while they quarantined remotely.
“ | I got the opportunity to spend time at home after years of staying in Korea, but it was during that time when I realized that I couldn't be separated for too long from my NAIAD unnies. I guess you can say home is where the heart is. | „ |
– Akemi about the group's one year hiatus. |
Since the company was still rebuilding, Kang Yeona proposed a new strategy to market NAIAD, rebranding how the group would be presented to the public. The agency dropped everything related to the Out of the Blue release: The general announcement, concept photos, and essentially "Bluenova," the pre-release single of NAIAD's 1st studio album, was only announced one day before its release day on June 28, 2020. The surprise release strategy was a success, drawing in fans who had been waiting a long time for a new comeback and the general public alike who tuned in to "Bluenova." The music video was viewed more than 20 million times in less than 24 hours, while the single itself debuted at #5 on Bugs, and top 20 on multiple other domestic music charts including, MelOn, Flo, and Genie. This was the group's highest charting single at that point, with their previous single, "Fantasea," only reaching #10 on Bugs.
Out of the Blue with "Rivers Crossed" as its title track, were released on August 3, 2020. The album debuted at number two on the Gaon Album Chart, selling over 117K copies in its first week, making it their second entry in South Korea's top five album list after Water Mirror. The album debuted at number three on Japan's Oricon Albums Chart, their first album to do so. "Rivers Crossed" surpassed "Bluenova" in the charts, with a peak position of #3 on Bugs, #9 on MelOn and Genie, and #10 on Flo NAIAD promoted the two singles for over two months and they took home 3 wins for "Bluenova" and 3 wins for "Rivers Crossed".
On September 26 & 27, 2020, NAIAD held an online fan meeting, called Naiad of the Seven Seas, through Beyond Live.
NAIAD release their first English digital single Blue Nova on November 13, 2020, which include the English versions of "Bluenova" and "Rivers Crossed".
2021: Moonblessed, Shinotsuku Ame, and Flow Together[]
Heaven's Entertainment announced that NAIAD would be making their comeback with their first EP, Moonblessed, on March 15, 2021, through a comeback teaser posted on their SNS. The EP consists of five tracks, including the group's first two subunit songs, "Monster" by Iris and Dylan and "Crazy in Love" by Anemone, Navy, and Akemi. The EP embraces new visuals and concepts, featuring darker color palettes and storytelling through its songs and music videos. Moonblessed became NAIAD's most well-received record from music critics, thanks to the EP's solid narrative and its production cohesiveness. The album debuted at number three on South Korea's Gaon Album Chart, with 143.182 copies sold in its opening week, setting a new record for the group. The EP charted in the US Billboard 200 chart at number 15, becoming NAIAD's highest-charting album in the country at that time. The EP debuted at #3 on both Japanese Oricon Albums Chart and Billboard Japan's Hot Albums as well.
NAIAD promoted the EP's lead single and also the group's first hit "Tonight or Never", and performed their B-sides on several music shows, earning 10 music show wins in total, the most since their debut in 2018. The group spawned their first Triple Crown ever through "Tonight or Never" on March 12, 2021, on Music Bank. "Tonight or Never" music video surpassed the previous 24-hour YouTube record of "Rivers Crossed" with 15 million views. The song reached number one on iTunes in 32 countries, with the majority being Southeast Asia and European countries. All five of the album's tracks debuted in the MelOn Top 100 for the first time. After reaching the top spot on the K-pop Hot 100 and the top 7 on the World Digital Songs charts on Billboard, "Tonight or Never" became the group's first domestic and international commercial hit.
- Tonight or Never peak:
- #1 Genie
- #1 Bugs
- #4 FLO
- #9 MelOn
Two weeks after its debut, the song topped both the real-time chart and the weekly K-pop chart on NetEase Music. The popularity of NAIAD's EP "Moonblessed" is particularly impressive given the fact that every member of the group contributed significantly to its composition and production.
After the success of Moonblessed, the group focused back on their previously halted Japanese promotion, by releasing their first Japanese studio album, "Shinotsuku Ame" (篠突く雨; Pouring Rain) on July 7, 2021, with "Crybaby" as its title track. The album features the Japanese version of NAIAD's previously released singles and notable b-sides. Later on October 2, 2021, The remix of "Crybaby" featuring the prominent Japanese rock duo, Yorushika, was released as the opening theme song for the anime Blue Period, marking their first collaboration in their career. This collaboration furthers NAIAD's popularity in Japan.
2 years after the release of Anthem of Tides, NAIAD wrapped up their first era, "The Recursive Lifetime Chapter", with the release of their 2nd EP, Flow Together, named after the group's official greeting. The EP was first announced by Heaven's Entertainment at the beginning of October, before it was released on November 8, 2021, with the title track "Million Dollar Nymph".
“ | In its 8 tracks, Flow Together connects and expands upon the narratives explored in our previous releases. It's all about the sisterhood we share amongst ourselves and our tight bond with Dianas. The five Naiads who were separated by fate are back together again, and they face an uncertain future together. | „ |
– Anemone on Flow Together. |
It's a direct reflection of the success of singles like "Tonight or Never" and "Rivers Crossed" on NAIAD's album sales, which have skyrocketed to an all-time high. Sales of the EP's pre-orders tripled from its previous release on November 7 to over 600,000 copies. After its first week of release, Flow Together debuted at number seven on the Billboard 200, becoming the group's highest-charting album in the US. It was their first number-one release on the Oricon Albums Chart as well. However, the lead single "Million Dollar Nymph" was considered a letdown for the GP, and it showed in the song's slow ascent up the charts. The song peaked at #6 on the Gaon Digital Chart and #10 on the US Billboard World Digital Song Sales chart after debuting at #20 and #13, respectively. After promoting "Million Dollar Nymph" for a month and took over 6 music show wins, NAIAD finally returned to perform in K-pop annual festivals and joint concert such as KBS Song Festival, SBS Gayo Daejeon, and MBC Gayo Daejeon.
2022: The Resonant Heart Chapter begins with Drama Alert and NAIAD's first world tour[]
“ | Are we really going to start our Chapter 2, like, are you being for real...? Omg... I feel like it was just yesterday we debuted...I blink once and now it's been 4 years already. So surreal. | „ |
– Navy, about The Resonant Heart Chapter. |
The Flow Together promotion was officially concluded by NAIAD on January 30, 2022, with their first-ever online concert (and concert overall) named "Five Hearts, One Domain" via Beyond Live. Tracks from their debut album Anthem of Tides all the way through their most recent EP Flow Together are included on the online concert's setlist. The online concert also marked the ending of NAIAD's "first chapter", The Recursive Lifetime Chapter, and with it came a lot of bittersweet feelings from the band members and Dianas who had fallen in love with them thanks to the 1st chapter's deep lore and music.
In a one-minute cinematic teaser released on May 5, Heaven's Entertainment shows NAIAD members going from their naiad personas in Chapter 1: Recursive Lifetime to their idol personas in Chapter 2: Resonant Heart. After a hiatus of more than six months without releasing any new music as a group, NAIAD began working on their second studio album, titled Drama Alert, which was scheduled for release on June 6, 2023. Rather than focusing on fantastical elements like Recursive Lifetime did, Resonant Heart focuses on the members' real-life experiences and the desire to spread positive messages through music, of course without losing the musical and "nymph" identity that they have built. Drama Alert is a retro album heavily inspired by Mean Girls portraying NAIAD members as a troublesome group of people who doubled down on the "dramatic women" allegation rather than overcoming it.
The group surprise dropped a pre-released single, "Good Girls Don't Die" one week after the comeback announcement on May 16, 2023. For the general public, and especially for Dianas, "Good Girls Don't Die" represents a significant cultural shift. Chapter 2 delivers on the promise of sounding very different from previous NAIAD recordings without toning down the band's signature sound. "GGDD" is an adrenaline rush of revved-up, roaring pop full of attitude. The lyrics is very Mean Girls-coded, inspiring all women to refuse to "kill their inner core" in order to be "good." In line with the album's retro theme, the song's production reflects that with a lively beat rhythm and "intense synth-bass sound for dancing", a reminiscent of the 90s pop songs.
On June 6, 2022, Drama Alert was released to the public with the lead single "Queenmaker." With the addition of "Good Girls Don't Die," Drama Alert was hailed as the "album of the century" by critics and the crazed, yet devoted, Stan Twitter fanbase. The chart shows that "Queenmaker" was a huge success, with NAIAD scoring their first perfect all-kill roughly a month after its release. Three weeks in a row, the title track topped South Korea's Billboard, the Gaon Digital Chart, and the K-pop Hot 100. The catchy lyrics and easy-to-learn choreography helped the song go viral both at home and abroad, turning it into a massive TikTok hit, much to elitist Dianas' dismay. The music video received 20 million views in its first 24 hours and 100 million views 40 days after its first release. Not only because of "Queenmaker" and "Good Girls Don't Die" which charted as good as NAIAD's previous title tracks such as "Tonight or Never", the B-sides were all notably excellent and all of them charted in several domestic music charts and earned significant amount of streams in Spotify.
“ | No one saw *that* coming. We were only hoping to maintain the love we earned from our previous releases, but to be given the opportunity to have it all was...fascinating. None of us complained, obviously! Dianas, we owe you a great deal yet again. | „ |
– Dylan about Drama Alert's commercial success. |
Drama Alert became NAIAD's first number one in South Korea and sold over 820,000 copies upon its release, and became certified Triple Platinum by the Korea Music Content Association (KMCA) in July.
The album was reissued on September 10, 2022, three months after its first release, with six additional tracks, including the title track "Narcissistic" and five NAIAD's solo songs. By the end of the month, the album had sold over 642,000 copies, making it NAIAD's second consecutive number-one on the Gaon Album Chart.
If "Queenmaker" gagged you, just wait for how "Narcissistic" jumpscared everyone on the chart. She had a rough start, was fighting for her life, and eventually ascended to the top, stomping her big sister on the chart by earning NAIAD their second perfect all-kill of 2022. Queen behavior if you ask me. The song was so successful that it reached the top spot on the Oricon chart in Japan in addition to the top spot at home. The Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, New Zealand, and Poland all gave it top chart placements as well. As of September 2023, the "Narcissistic" music video had racked up 250 million views, making it NAIAD's most viewed MV to date. The song earned 12 music show wins and two Triple Crowns on Music Core and Inkigayo, making it the group's most wins.
To further promote their album, NAIAD set out on their first-ever world tour on August 6, 2022 in Seoul, and ended it on November 18, 2022, in São Paulo, Brazil. They performed in 10 different countries and had 21 shows in total, accumulating over 127,000 audiences.
2023–present: Wanderer above the Sea of Fog[]

“ | Caspar David Friedrich, a German Romanticist, painted a scene called "Wanderer above the Sea of Fog" in which a solitary individual appears lost in thought, as if the fog rolling in from the ocean were some sort of religious or spiritual experience. | „ |
2023: The Age of Beauty[]
After they conquered the South Korean chart, Heaven's set its sights on promoting NAIAD further internationally, especially in Japan and the United States. First, they wrapped up what fans would call the Drama Queens Duology by releasing their 1st Japanese Mini Album, Hanagasumi on April 26, 2023. The album became a certified gold by RIAJ as it sold over 150,000 copies upon its release and topped the Oricon Chart.
The group made their summer mini album comeback, True Beauty, on August 25, 2023, with two English singles preceding its release: "Octave" by vocal line (released: August 18, 2023) and "Kiss Me" by rap line (released: August 21, 2023). The album is accompanied by the title track "Oh, My, Mayday!", released simultaneously with its music video.
To support the mini album, the group embarked on their second world tour, The Age of Beauty World Tour, beginning on October 14.
At the 2023 MBS Artist Awards, NAIAD was honored with the prestigious Artist of the Year Award.

Artistry[]
Theme song[]
𝓐𝓺𝓾𝓪 𝓲𝓷𝓯𝓲𝓷𝓲𝓽𝓾𝓶, named after their insignia, serves as NAIAD's theme song and was first released on SoundCloud on December 25, 2018. Five years after its original release, the theme song was made available on all streaming platforms. "Aqua Infinitum" portrays the joyous and bittersweet experience of friendships and growth despite not having lyrics, and Anemone has labeled it as the pinnacle of NAIAD's sound.
Musical styles and lyrical themes[]
Among the girl group scenes, NAIAD is notable for utilizing Greek mythology, particularly those related to the water nymph Naiad, as their main inspiration, and they have a tinge of maturity in their songs. This kind of maturity often manifests in a more sinister way than is typical for a female group, as their lore focuses on the theme of loss and tragedy.
Since most of NAIAD's songs include very demanding vocals, and the members know how to deliver them effectively throughout their most distinctive sound—hard-hitting R&B rhythms and electro-pop—the group is also renowned as Heaven's greatest vocalists. There are a lot of metaphors in their music; they often feature self-loving, powerful women; they encourage their listeners to defy corrupt authorities constantly; and they always deliver with a sassy attitude. In recent years, NAIAD has been experimenting with new sounds, producing more appealing pop hook songs while keeping their trademark balance of sweetness and despair.
Image and reception[]
NAIAD established themselves with a distinct concept: a group rich in lore. Their music is characterized by its enigmatic lyrics and intense emotional depth, and their lore gradually takes form as they go on dangerous yet thrilling journeys with each new release. These title tracks often set the tone for each album, which can vary in style while progressing the overarching story.
