Murayama Kanon (Korean: 무라야마 카논; Japanese: 村山花音) is a Japanese singer, songwriter and actress under Senai Records.
She made her solo debut on October 1, 2019 with the mini album I AM. Her debut mini album, I AM (2019), peaked at number 1 on the US Billboard 200, becoming the highest ranking album by a Japanese soloist in the chart, while its Korean lead single, "Inception (12시)", peaked at number one on the Billboard K-pop Hot 100, giving her the first female solo to be chart-topper on that chart. Kanon's vocal skills have been admired by music critics and she is regarded as one of the best vocalists in South Korea and the worldwide. Having sold over one million physical albums and twenty million digital singles as of 2022, Kanon is one of the best-selling female solo artists in South Korea and Japan, followed by Taeyeon of Girl's Generation.
Early life[]
Kanon was born on November 27, 2001, in Hokkaido Prefecture, Japan. She is the second child of the parents Momoka (mother) and Taro Murayama (father). She has a elder twin brother named Keiwa and Kenta and a younger brother named Ikki.
Career[]
2018: Project Destream[]
In May 2018, Kanon became a contestant on the coed survival show Project Destream. She was ranked 1st place in the finale, however, she was eliminated when the boys' team won against the girls', thus ultimately not being able to debut as the final group DESTREAM.[1]
2019-present: Solo and acting debut, Sad Girls Club[]
Following the conclusion of Project Destream, she would then signed a contract with a private agency DAZE Creative on May 29, 2019.
On August, DAZE Creative announced on August 1 that she would debut as a solo artist. On September 4, a preview film for her pre-release single titled "Poker Face" was released, and in September 11, the music video.
On October 1, she officially debuted with the mini album I AM and its title track, "Inception (12시)" and achieved an all-kill on music charts. On the same day, she held her showcase. She made her broadcast debut on Mnet's M Countdown on October 4 performing "Inception (12시)". On October 10, 2019, Kanon earned her first ever music show win on MBC Music'sShow Champion with received thirteen music shows wins.
Apart from her solo activities, Kanon also ventured into acting. She began her acting debut on May 25, 2020 with the Japanese drama "Ai ni Tayotte", and played as the lead role Igarashi Kasumi. The drama was a local success, earning high viewership ratings during its two-month run; and also gained popularity in other countries.
On April 1, 2021, Kanon would make her solo comeback after one years and six months, and she would released her second extended play Look at Me along with the same name of the title track. Look at Me also received ten music shows wins, including triple crown for Inkigayo.
On March 26, 2022, she has been decided for transferred to her new labels Senai Records due to her popular demands. Kanon was set to release her first full-length album Invulnerable on June 6, 2022. The title track "I.N.V.U" with the music video was released on the same day. I.N.V.U also received fourteen music shows wins.
On July 2022, she would return to acting and later played the supporting role as Kawanishi Himari in Operation Antifragile, the South Korean remake of 2017 Hindi film Tiger Zinda Hai, which was scheduled to be released on June 9, 2023.
On June 18, 2023, she later confirmed and revealed to be a member of only-time project girl group SAD GIRLS CLUB under name Kanon, as the lead vocalist and face of the group. They will set to be released sometimes in July this year.

Kanon has stated singer-songwriter HARAM is her role model as she admires the way the soloist is able to sing, dance, and perform various other things. She has also stated that some of her role models are soloists BoA, Lee Hyori and IU as well as girl group 9SERAPHIM and Girl's Generation.

In September 2022, Kanon was appointed as global ambassador for the Korean Red Cross' annual "Everyone Campaign" to promote volunteering.

In May 23, 2023, she was announced as the brand ambassador for Korean makeup brand Clio Cosmetics, after IVE's Yujin.
Philanthropy[]
In February 2023, she donated ₩200 million to the UNICEF to help victims of the 2023 Turkey–Syria earthquake.
