Liu Min Wei (Chinese: 劉民偉, Liúmínwěi), also known by her stage name Minwei in Korea, and in China as WEIMIN (Chinese: 魏敏, Wèi mǐn), is a Chinese singer and dancer under PHX Entertainment. She is a member of the project girl group LUNIVER and an ex-member of the pre-debut trainee team PHX Rookies.

Background[]

Min Wei was born from a generally wealthy family of musicians in Liuyang City, located in Changsha, a city of the Hunan Province in China, on March 22, 2002.

First music experiences (2008-2015)[]

Her mother, Yulin Liu, was a singer, and her father was a guitar player, so she subsequently was introduced to music at a very young age. At the age of 6 she entered her school's choir by her own will, and she was defined as one of the best singers despite her young age. When she was 8 she started participating on local singing competitions with the support of her mother and when she was 9, she appeared as a guest on Yulin's remastered version of her 1985 debut album "Love Fun". Some years later, on her 11th birthday, her parents gifted her a professional microphone and headphones, so she started recording very simple songs written by her and her aunt, who is a songwriter. These were never released officially, because of her father not wanting her to be a professional singer, but they were performed many times live. During 2014 and 2015 she rarely performed or recorded songs, again because of her father, that wanted her to study hard so she could go to a prestigious high school.

Moving to Beijing, singer career develops (2016)[]

In 2016, her family moved to Beijing because her mother's record company wanted her to re-record her albums and include bonus tracks, since she was gaining popularity for her city pop/funk style. There, Min Wei kept singing and participating in various talent shows, supported by her mom. Min Wei also entered a prestigious high school as her father wanted, so he let her go on talent shows.

Member of "特殊 GIRLS" (2017-2018)[]

In 2017, she and her 2 friends recorded their first mini album "WOW GIRLS" with the help of Min Wei's mom. They released it independently under their own company, Mèng Dié Music, as a trio named "特殊 GIRLS" (trans: Special/Extraordinary Girls). They gained little success with the help of their classmates, and they released their second mini album "DANCING QUEEN" later. They even performed live multiple times, but unfortunately, after getting letters from fans, Min Wei's father found out and was mad about it, so they had to disband.

On her father's 50th birthday, in 2018, she made a party with her whole family to let her become a singer. He accepted after he understood that it was his daughter's true dream.

Chinese debut with "Wild Flower" (2018-2019)[]

Min Wei was scouted by a UP!CN Records manager on October 5, 2018, during a concert made to promote rising artists, and she accepted the offer signing a 4-year contract with the label.

She made her solo debut under the stage name WEIMIN with the single album "Wild Flower" on June 1, 2019. The album had a fair success, but it didn't chart. Even though, she became enough popular to reach 10.000 followers on Instagram only a week after the release.

WEIMIN's first fan event happened in Beijing on June 16, with an attendance of 50 selected people. Her second fan event was a week later, on June 21 with 60 people attending.
