MACADAMIA (마카다미아; also stylized as macadam!a) was a five-member South Korean girl group under SHARKTOOTH Entertainment. They made their debut on April 29, 2024, with the release of the single album LUCKY LUCKY.
Their group name was derived from various words, the most obvious being macadamia. In addition to this, the words academia, macaron, and abracadabra can be found in the name. It is a group name that combines the the themes together, combining to create a final product of a magical school. Through the lessons they learn at the Macadamia, they'll arise to something new and special.
On December 3, it was revealed that the group would be disbanding, with half of the members later joining a new group under the company.
History[]
2024: Predebut-Debut; LUCKY LUCKY, NEW GIRL CHARM, Disbandment[]
On February 1, 2024, the company's social media accounts revealed an upcoming project. The following day, it revealed that a girl group was in the works, and would be slated to debut in late April of that year.
On February 8, they revealed the profiles for each member, beginning with Wen Daiyu. On February 10, they revealed Kanemaru Hotaru. On the 12, they revealed Yun Juhyun, and Cho Soomin was revealed on the 14. The final member, Minami Riko, was revealed on February 16.
On March 10, the group name was revealed in a logo teaser. SHARKTOOTH Entertainment also confirmed their debut date to be April 29, 2024. The officially debuted with their first single album, LUCKY LUCKY.
On August 2nd, they returned with their second single album, NEW GIRL CHARM.
On December 3, it was revealed that the group would be disbanding, with Daiyu, Soomin, and Jihyun, choosing to remain in the company. Riko and Hotaru however terminated their contracts completely.
Concept[]
MACADAMIA follows a magical schoolgirl concept that's reflective of the world around the word. They focus on living their lives together, learning what it means to grow as a person alongside good friends. They hope to mystify fans with their music, and connect with them together. Their music and concept demonstrates a fairly youthful and down to earth aesthetic, while also showing themes of resilience, doubt, regret, and courage.
