KWON JANGHUN 권장훈
Indie singer-songwriter and producer from Seoul, South Korea.
1x Hangang Artistry Awards nominee
ABOUT 권장훈[]
Born in Cheongju, South Korea on January 25, 1995, Kwon Janghun was born out of a family that already had a profound relationship with music. His mother worked in the performing arts field as an opera singer who had played over a hundred shows, while his father was a retired sergeant of the Korean Armed Forces who would go on to be active a string player until he passed away of lung cancer in 2004. He is the eldest of two siblings, with his younger sister, Park Eunwoo, carving a music path of her own and debuting as part of girl group Royal Crush in 2022.
As a child, he originally dreamed of becoming a performer; something that wasn’t considered a stable career path in a working class household. Growing up, he struggled with a social life as he was studying in a school where he was deemed less privileged, being mocked by his fellow kids for his family's financial situation as well as his less-than-favorable academic performance. Nevertheless, he would end up becoming one of the most prominent members of his high school's music club and became skilled in composing and re-arranging songs, with his creations being largely influenced by classic 1970s and 1980s music. During his early teens, his favorite song was "Love Me For What I Am" by American duo The Carpenters. Furthermore, he was also obsessed with an obscure Japanese band named XY, who had a short-lived existence over the late 1980s. He had discovered them in 2008 through a former friend who was a vintage collector, and immediately fell in love with their synth-rock music. Despite initially aiming to be in corporate management for money, his passion won over his parents' desire to have him do a "normal job" and he would spend the next few years honing his singing skills.

At the age of 19, Janghun decided to begin his mandatory military service so that there will not be any disruptions to his potential singing career in the near future. Seven months later, he was later confirmed to have transferred to public service work after being diagnosed with panic disorder and being re-evaluated down to Grade 4. He was later discharged early in late 2015 due to good conduct and large community service contributions. After his discharge, Janghun auditioned to become a trainee of Picture Music with a vocal cover of Hyolyn & Zico's "Red Lipstick". While being a trainee, Janghun gained attention among Korean fans of 6topia after they identified him as the "handsome hyung fan" of member Geon, often attending the group's fansigns and schedules. In 2017, he participated in survival audition program Produce 101, but did not make it past the first elimination round. After his experience in the show, he left Picture Music and resumed his studies, enrolling in one of South Korea's most prestigious music schools.
In January 2021, after years of minimally successful grinding in the music industry as a songwriter and a busker, Janghun independently made his debut as a solo artist with the self-produced digital single "Chained To The Devil", a groovy R&B track with a mature concept. In October 2021, Janghun released the single "Apocalypto", an experimental song which is highly influenced by contemporary R&B, death metal, and garage rock, lyrically revolving around the literary theme of hell failing to contain evil, causing it to spill onto the land of the living. The song was featured in a year-end list of 50 overlooked releases from around the world that deserved more attention from audiences, while he was featured in an official news article by the Hangang Music Committee about "10 rising artists you should look out for in 2022". In 2022, he took a major decision in his music career and applied to be the new frontman of indie band Adam and the Sock Puppet, immediately being recruited by the band's founding members. Since then, the band has continued touring across South Korea.
In September 3, 2024, record label LOTUSBASE officially announced that Kwon Janghun had joined their family of solo artists, which included the likes of rising talents such as the founder DEC, Cho Sungho, and Yang Taepoong. On December 6, 2024, Janghun, alongside labelmates DEC, Xeno, Cho Sungho, and Yang Taepoong, released the collaborative winter single "For A Happy Winter". The single was commercially successful, peaking within the top ten of the charts in South Korea. This marked the first time that Janghun had seen mainstream success, as a handful of curious listeners started tuning in to his solo work.
With interest increasing, he began to capitalize on it by announcing that his debut studio album was in the works. In an Instagram story, Janghun spoke to his old fans, saying: "Yes. I swear, I'm finally creating that album. Thanks for being patient everyone- Assasinate me if it's not yet out before Christmas." On January 21st, 2025, Janghun started his rollout by releasing the self-produced funk ballad "Tally (The Last Month With You)", a song that was reportedly about his relationship with his ex-girlfriend, which ended as the latter had decided to move overseas with her family. On April 5th, 2025, Janghun released a mid-2000s inspired R&B single titled "Won't U Answer The Phone?", which explored the dynamics of a fragmented relationship that is metaphorically hanging from a string. Janghun's recognition reached new heights after he appeared on Xavier Luna's debut studio album XAVI (2025), providing vocals for the pop and R&B track "Gasoline or Dopamine". Xavier had discovered Janghun after stumbling upon his band, and reached out to him in February saying that he was interested in enlisting him as a feature for the album.
As a result of his appearance on the critically-acclaimed album, streaming platform BE.LIV reported that streams of Janghun's catalog had surged by 480%+, which led him to release his third single "Red Lipstick", a song about Janghun remembering his ex-girlfriend due to a few belongings they accidentally permanently left behind at his apartment. The song references the title of the song he covered for his first audition at a K-pop company. "Red Lipstick" became his first song to surpass 100,000 streams on MelOn, doing so in less than 7 days. On July 28, 2025, Janghun released his debut studio album Genuine Dictation to record stores and streaming platforms. Since then, Janghun has continued being active in the indie scene, assuring that while he enjoys the rising interest in him, he wants to continue making music the same way he was doing it before as a newcomer, without particularly chasing mainstream success and music industry trends.
Production work[]
Kwon Janghun was first enlisted by 24D Entertainment in June 2025 to produce two songs for Anomii's debut extended play (EP) Do You Even Know What True Love Is?, namely "지금도 날 사랑하나요? Since then, the group has continued working with Kwon, as he continued producing songs for their next few records over the mid-2020s.
