John Doe is the first mini album by South Korean girl group CHRYSTALLIZE. It released on May 22, 2025, with "Automatic" serving as the title track. The intro, "John Doe" is the main promotional b-side.

The physical album comes in one version currently: John Doe, however it is possible to get 5 types of CDs: John Doe (Normal), John Doe (Exclusive), Automatic (Exclusive), Where Are You? (Exclusive) and Under The Streetlight (Exclusive). The Exclusive ones are pre-order only in a limited quantity, only 4,000 being ever released. The Exclusive CDs comes with CHRYSTALLIZE's signature.

John Doe is currently streamable on iTunes, Apple Music, MelOn, Genie and Spotify, and other music apps around the world. Their debut showcase can be found here.

The mini album broke the record for highest single-day sales for the debut album of a K-pop girl group 16 hours after release.

Release[]

On May 3, 2025, posters all around Asia and Europe has been spotted, revealing what's speculated to be LoveRail Entertainment's first group to ever be planned to debut, and its group name, CHRYSTALLIZE.[1] The posters follow a storyline, centered around the conceptual art project and hoax 'This Man'.[2] The poster had a photo of five girls, who were speculated to be LoveRail Entertainment trainees Jeong Suyeong, Jang Nari (Cindy), Cheng Emma, Aoba Setsuna and Qiao Xinzhu (Celesté).

On May 4, 2025, a logo reveal was released on CHRYSTALLIZE's social media announcing their name and logo. They were revealed to be a group debuting soon. The post was reposted by LoveRail Entertainment, confirming they are LoveRail Entertainment's up-coming first girl group ever.[3]

On May 5, 2025, the first member of CHRYSTALLIZE was revealed to be Celesté.[4] The next day, Emma was revealed to be the second member of CHRYSTALLIZE.[5] On May 7, 2025, Suyeong was officially revealed as a member.[6] On May 8, 2025, Cindy was officially revealed as a member.[7] On May 9, 2025, Setsuna was official revealed as a member, the last member to be revealed.[8]

On May 9, 2025, after the reveal of the last member, CHRYSTALLIZE released the debut trailer named 'The Reveal', revealing the concept name of the debut reveal content, 'The Reveal'. It was also revealed their debut will be on May 22, 2025.

On May 12, 2025, it was revealed John Doe is the name of CHRYSTALLIZE's debut mini album. This came with the reveal of their group concept photo. Two days later, all the members' individual John Doe concept photos were released.

On May 15, 2025, the tracklist for John Doe was revealed. It includes the album intro "John Doe", title track "Automatic" and two b-sides, "어디야?" (Where Are You?) and "가로등 불 아래서" (Under The Streetlight). Each song had a designated CD disc on the Tracklist Reveal Poster, hinting at the fact there will be 4 special types of CDs next to the ordinary "John Doe" themed CD. Notably, the songs were also made by many well-known producers and lyricists, including Dae, JIUU, DEC, Chae Dahee, 4REALMS, Xao, Eunwon, and even famous LoveRail Entertainment trainee-producer FreyjaMusic. "가로등 불 아래서" (Under The Streetlight)'s lyrics were also co-written and co-produced by CHRYSTALLIZE members Celesté & Suyeong.

On May 16, 2025, the group concept photo for the title track 'Automatic' was released. The next day, it was followed up by the individual members' concept photos. On May 18, 2025, the album preview was posted, alongside a close-up of the photobook and the reveal of the official album cover. The highlight medley for "John Doe" was released on May 20, 2025.

On May 22, 2025, CHRYSTALLIZE finally debuted with the mini album "John Doe" and the title track, "Automatic". On the same day, CHRYSTALLIZE had their debut showcase. The mini album broke the record for highest single-day sales for the debut album of a K-pop girl group, and charted at #1 on the Bugs chart, #2 on the Gaon chart, #3 on Genie and #2 on MelOn. Internationally it charted #74 on Global Hot 200 (Billboard), #22 in Indonesia, #3 on Japan Hot 100, #6 in Malaysia and #4 in Singapore.

On June 7, 2025, the group appeared on "Killing Voice", performing the song 'Automatic' from their debut album, John Doe.

1. John Doe (Intro):[]

John Doe is a dance track with groovy bass and rhythm and Latin-inspired sounds scattered throughout, the song expresses someone's feelings toward a strange and unknown man, called John Doe.

The name 'John Doe' is the male name that is used in the British and American legal system and assigned generally in the United Kingdom and the United States when the true name of a person is unknown or is being intentionally concealed. It is also often used to refer to a corpse whose identity is unknown or cannot be confirmed.

2. Automatic:[]

The title track 'Automatic' is an urban genre song with a soft melody over a groovy drum beat, and delicate lyrics describe the feeling of being automatically attracted to someone. Lyricist Chae Dahee revealed that when she wrote the lyrics for the song, she thought of a mermaid princess who is in love.

3. 어디야? (Where Are You?):[]

The song "어디야? (Where Are You?)" is a synth-pop song of the late 80s in the R&B Soul genre with a retro sound. It is a song that can capture the ears of listeners with a dreamy and popular melody.

4. 가로등 불 아래서 (Under The Streetlight):[]

The b-side song "Under The Streetlight" is a vintage hip-hop song with a BPM of 90's medium tempo. It's about longing for the ex-lover under the light of a street lamp.
