Hyojung was born in Gwangju, South Korea. When she was little, her grandfather passed away. Though she worked at her mother's convenience store, suddenly, at the age of 6, her mother's convenience store was closed down due to bankruptcy. During a singing contest at her school when she was still in Grade 2, she got picked as a contestant but was nervous when she was picked. When it was finally the day she sang confidently and was placed on the podium, and she was in 1st place due to her angelic voice, Staffs and her classmate said that your good at singing, you should be an idol in the future, which made Hyojung pursue her dreams into becoming an idol back then in 2009. On August 23, 2017, she joined Aqua Entertainment at the age of 14 and had to move to Seoul with her friend Jiwoo for them to both pursue their careers.
She was picked to be part of the line-up of STARZ, but in March of 2024, she left STARZ due to her becoming a soloist and preparing her soloist debut along with Anastasia with the composer, arranger, and producer.
