Cherry (Korean: 체리; Chinese: 樱桃; Pinyin: Yīngtáo; Japanese: チェリー) is a Japanese-American trainee under LoveRail Entertainment. She was previously a singer, dancer, and model under YW Entertainment, and a former member of DKDK Generation 2. She is also a former soloist in China, making her Chinese debut June 10, 2021.
On June 10, 2025, Cherry was revealed as a member of Today's Girl in the brand film "Today's Together".
Personal background[]
2004-2015: Growing up in Brooklyn, NY[]
Cherry was born in Brooklyn, New York by immigrant parents April 19, 2004. Her parents had moved from Sapporo, Japan to the US 2 years prior to Cherry's birth. She was born with only a Japanese name, Imai Cherry (今井桜桃). Her first name, although being written like Ōtō (桜桃), is spoken like Cherī (チェリー). This is because her name is a kira kira name.
She went to a normal public school in New York until 5th grade, when her parents decided they wanted to move back to Japan after her dad secured a well-paying job in Tokyo.
2015-2018: Attending school in Japan[]
School in Japan was difficult at first for Cherry, being really different from a normal public school in the US. Here she attended a prestigious academy in Tokyo, until she was scouted on the streets while walking in Harajuku with her then-boyfriend.
Career[]
2021-2022: DKDK and solo debut in China[]
On January 30, 2021, it was announced Cherry was a member of DKDK's Generation 2.
On March 30, 2021, Cherry debuted in DKDK with their digital single 'NEW SUGAR'. Later that year on June 12, 2021, Cherry made her solo debut with the digital single 'XOXO'.
On July 30, 2021, after disagreements with the company, Cherry sued YW Entertainment and left the group.
2023-2025: Conflicts with YW Entertainment[]
After her lawsuit with YW Entertainment, she was never seen in the K-Pop industry again with no answer as to why. On October 26, 2023, she revealed on an Instagram live the reason for this was because she was blacklisted from the industry after the conflict.
February 30, 2025-March 3, 2025: Removed from blacklist and joining LoveRail Entertainment[]
On February 30, 2025, Cherry was seen entering LoveRail Entertainment's building. A few days later, she announced that YW Entertainment's blacklist had been ruled as invalid in court, and that she was free to join the idol industry again. She also announced she was a trainee under LoveRail Entertainment.
June 10, 2025-present: Debuting in Today's Girl[]
On June 10, 2025, Cherry was revealed as a member of Today's Girl in the brand film "Today's Together".
