Viva La Vida! Hello, we are INFIN81!

—INFIN81 |
INFIN81 (인핀에이티원; stylized as 𝐈𝐍𝐅𝐈𝐍𝟖𝟏), is a multinational five-member project boy group under D8hour Musics. They were formed through Capsize's reality show INFINITEEZ: The Reverse Project. Originally as ten, they made their debut on November 17, 2017 with their first album "Ground: ZERO". INFIN81 reached several accolades from their debut in favor of the general public and their domestic popularity, to their rising international popularity by the intricate music and lore. INFIN81's concept switch is one of their drastic decisions as a musician yet, from their famed boy-next-door, pure concept to a much more darker, trippy concept with hints of lore and storytelling.
Their name is a combination between "Infinite" and the number "81". INFIN is a short form for Infinite, which is endless. Meaning that the group will be forever remembered by their fans. 8 means infinity and success if you flip the 8, it will create the ∞ or infinite symbol. 1 means they are united when they are together.
For the groups greeting, "Viva La Vida" means "Long Live Life" in Spanish, as a nod to the same song by Coldplay titled "Viva La Vida".
INFIN81 will be active and promoting for seven years, before it will end in April 20, 2024.
History[]
Pre-debut: ROSEGOLD[]

ROSEGOLD Logo
In 2013, before the group's conception, there were seven trainees that was scheduled to debut around the fourth quarter of 2013. The trainees include Won Yubin, Ko Jungchan, Huh Siwon, Uchida Yamato, Cho Sungho, Chen Dihsiang, and Jeon Sohan. Jungchan was an ice skater, and Yamato and Dihsiang were foreign members that was loved by the public due to their visuals. They were trained together two years ago in 2011. The group was appearing on busking events and university festivals as a new group. Their name was ROSEGOLD. This group was facing a lot of criticism due to their young members, which has four minors in the group, however, the group was received fairly well with the general public.
When preparing for group promotions before debut, member Jungchan and Yamato was involved in a car crash with a burning vehicle and has to be taken into the hospital. Their debut is heavily delayed and the general public was heavily concerned about the members. The rest of the members were devastated and it was a huge news in the country back then. All the trainees then went back to training and some quit from the entertainment industry altogether. The remaining trainees, Jungchan, Yamato, Sungho, Dihsiang, and Sohan went to training except for Yubin, who left the company and debuted solo in another company. Siwon then went to live a non-idol life, now married and has two kids.
2017: INFINITEEZ: The Reverse Project, INFIN81's Debut[]

First Group Photo
The group is formed on the survival show, INFINITEEZ: The Reverse Project. Before the show aired, the contestants are teased in a short 2 minute video. The goal was to make a multinational group from South Korea and other countries through a strict street audition, before getting into the show. The final episode aired at July 15th, 2017 with the final group being named 'INFIN81', and is made with eleven members. In the first group photo, Bomin is seen absent from the photo due to family matters, specifically in the group's first post. However, after five days, Bomin is announced to join the rest of the members for their upcoming sets of photoshoots.
The history of what the members achieved to be in the final group is quite profound. The ten members are originally independent trainees, except for Yamato, Sungho, and Jeonghoon (Briar Hadley), who were EKLEIPSIS trainees and a member of a co-ed group respectively. The trainees that auditioned in Incheon were Wooseong and Hyeonjae, Juniper, Hong San and Bomin made it into the Busan auditions, and the majority of trainees were in Seoul. Which consists of Yamato, Sungho, Dihsiang, Aziz, Sora and Jeonghoon. Each trainees have a specific origins and place in the competition.

The group first post
The group began to engage in social media activities, releasing pre-debut videos and even a short variety show titled 'AIM HIGH! INFIN81.' which the group and the fans unofficial greeting before they changed it to 'Viva La Vida.' The group also had an anticipated all members solo project, but after the following years, it was not brought up again. This was the first lost media pertaining to the group. Fans coined this era as the 'Baby Era', referencing to their hairs being black/not bleached yet and Hadley, Bomin and the 00' Liners are still on their teens.
The group debuted in November 17, 2017 with the first album 'Ground: ZERO' and their title track 'A Sweet Unforgettable Love'. The members are Hong San, Yamato, Sungho, Dior, Hyeonjae, Dalwol, Aziz, Juniper, Sora, Hadley and Bomin. Their first showcase was in November 18, 2017, with the members introducing themselves into the public for the first time. The first album is promoted for two weeks, and achieved 5 million views on Youtube in the span of almost two weeks, and topped #40 on the Gaon Weekly Chart and #60 at the Bugs Chart.
The concept of their debut is described as innocent, pure, and the members vibes resembles the 'first crush' of the teens at that time. Especially Hong San and Cho Sungho, were dubbed the 'Korea's first crush' of male idols and began popularizing the term to fourth generation male idols. The debut was received well by the general public, praising their innocent and school boy concept as the members were generally young at that time (the oldest being 22 and the youngest being 14). However, there were some floating criticism on some of the members not fitting the concept, listing members and rapper-line Dior and Hyeonjae as the prime examples. The debut was actually the trajectory of their discography, leading up to the now lore-filled and coming of age concept.
2018: First fansign, first comeback 'Inferno'[]
In January 12, 2018, the group held their first fansign 'To:81 For: Ever". This is also the same day they announced the fandom name 'Infini' which is Infinite in French. The meaning of Infini is to stick around and cherish the memories with the members, even if the group were to disband soon. This fandom name was an idea Yamato had ever since the airing of the show.

Bomin in fansign
In April 9, 2018, the group had their first comeback with the single album 'Inferno' and their title track of the same name. Despite the album's name, the group is consistent with their innocent concept title track with strong raps from Hyeonjae, Dior, Zhewei and Juniper. This also marks the first time the group 'catfished' the fans with their concepts, which became a long running inside joke at the time. The concept is about how love is akin to a blazing inferno, and their choreo referenced fire. Radioactive, despite being a title for a group with hard-hitting concept, the song went on to be one of the streamed songs for a rookie group. INFIN81 introduced the earliest form of beat switch up, from mellow ballad to indie EDM.
The public appreciates this song very well with the strong imagery of youth, and solid vocal line and rapper line. This is when the time of the fourth generation eventually debuted, and the music scene drastically changed.
'Inferno' went to sell 150,000 copies physically and achieved 5 million views at the span of a week. The single album is promoted for 2 weeks, and peaked at #55 in the Gaon Digital Chart and #67 at the Gaon Weekly Chart. This was one of the golden eras that the group have in their careers, but in this time, they didn't get a music show win like the other rookie boy/girl groups. INFIN81 went viral one time with their mirror choreography, being their earliest point choreo.
It was early into their careers when a dating scandal broke out between the leader Sungho and an unknown, nugu girl group member named M. The company took the initiative to confirm it wasn't true, but Dispatch leaked photos of the two dating, matching accessories, and even hanging out in a bar. M wrote in an Instagram post, saying it wasn't true and fans shouldn't believe in rumors. The dating scandal is possibly revealed to be a publicity stunt to boost the group. Leaving the general public to feel conflicted and marks their next few releases to be "unsuccessful", and they have a drastic drop in the charts.
On October 10, The group teases their new release in a series of Instagram posts on September, with the members wearing fake wings and fake halo. But this comeback did not happen, as the director that manages the label stepped down. Now, this is one of their lost medias pertaining to the group. It was at this time Dior changed his stage name to Aureole.
On October 19, the group managed the recover with their second comeback, the first mini album titled 'Somnambulist'. The mini album ranked higher than usual, due to 'The World of Dreams' being viral in the k-pop sphere, especially in Instagram. Somnambulist went to sell 275,000 copies. Somnambulist is described as an ethereal song and also perfect for a study song. The choreography went viral for their intricacy and the especially flawless transitions to the different verses.
2019-2021: Sole Valentine, VICIOUS Tetralogy, Yamato and Fei Fei's confirmed relationship[]
In May 10, 2019, the group had their third comeback with the digital single 'Sole Valentine'. The song peaked at #65 in the Monthly Chart and #58 in the Weekly Chart, slightly underperforming in the charts. Though with this information, the group comeback is still well appreciated (even though it was one of their "worse" songs). INFIN81 put their own twist to the concept, but still maintains the original essence of the song. This is when they subtly hinted lore on the music video, when an incubus statue is seen appeared in the M/V, and a Griffin seemingly vandalizing the statue.
On May 18, it was confirmed that Yamato and soloist Fei Fei were having a relationship and already dated before Fei Fei's official debut. This garnered mixed responses from the fans and the general public, with the latter questioning the power dynamics of Yamato being a senior and Fei Fei being a new, fresh artist. However, Fei Fei took to social media to clarify that they knew each other five months ago, when the two attended the same university but in a different department (Sungkyunkwan University).
On June 1, it was reported that Hong San would take an indefinite hiatus to focus on his health. Hong San immediately took the news to his Instagram post, reassuring fans that he would take as much as time to recover and get the help he needs.
On October 18, EKLEIPSIS Entertainment announced in INFIN81's fancafe that San would leave from the group due to his worsening health issues, which he revealed to be an untreated bulimia as a byproduct of intense and restrictive diets. His leader title would be passed down to member Sungho along with the main dancer title, along with the main vocalist title being passed down to member Juniper. Years after his departure, San revealed in an Instagram live that following his bulimia treatment, he is also diagnosed with severe anxiety disorder. He also revealed to have to deal with family issues, although he does not reveal specific details.
In May 11, member Dalwol broke his leg after the end of their comeback showcase, which prompted the company to make a statement about the situation. Dalwol didn't take part in two comebacks in that year, halting his individual activities for health reasons. The group continued as 9. After his recovery, member Dalwol decide to change his name into his real name Wooseong. Then around this year, what was the entire concept of INFIN81 centering around innocent concept, slowly starts to change.
In November 2, the group had their fourth comeback with the single album EP 1: HIDEAWAY. It charted significantly well in Korean charts and also charted in Itunes on number #90. This is the part when the member Aureole's parts in the bridge went viral for his deep voice and muscular physique. One member went viral which is Juniper, due to his insane riffs and runs on one of the b-sides of the album. This marks the start of the VICIOUS Tetralogy.
In December 10, 2019, a music video is being released for Christmas titled "INFINMAS". They released variety shows and series dedicated to INFIN81's lore during this month, including the Grinch backstory narrated in English by Hyeonjae.
In around April 2020, member Hadley legally changed his name from Shin Junghoon to Shin Dohwa. After the news of COVID-19 and the start of lockdown, INFIN81 began to release their famed web video series "The Backstage Secrets to Fame", where members showcase their trainees' backstories, their formation and how they produced their own songs. This is where Infinies get to see their chaotic and unfiltered self, with a lot of goofy or horror-like stories of what happened to the members behind the scenes. This is where the pairing of Sungho and Sora went viral for their funny, brother-like banter and Aureole occasionally being the butt of the joke for being a silly himbo.

Concept[]
“ |
There are two worlds; the conscious and the unconscious. The story revolves around the people from the conscious world, far from earth, going off with their regular lives. The people will sleep and as they are sleeping, they transform into otherworldly creatures. In a world filled with an ideal self of someone, the unconscious world provides an unexpected side of itself. Ten boys, ten strangers, but most importantly, ten deities who guard the unconscious world and are unknown in the conscious world. As the story progresses, from a simple trusting each other in the conscious world, into a war of beliefs. The plane crash is a turning point of Kang Euidong's life. In a coma, he wakes up to find out that he was a fairy in the dream world. To fulfill Kang Euidong's hopes that he can resume life and not die young, the fairy then did the unthinkable. It was Euidong, but in a mind of the fairy, Lowingh, going into school filled with humans and living in a dull life. Lowingh felt familiar to those people that he met, strangely in fact. As he returned back to his comatose state- Lowingh starts to see the dream world- from an outlet of escapism and peaceful fantasy- to a gloomy and filled with despair, with each sides waging war from another. But one made an unexpected appearance; the Harpy. Are they supposed to die in the war? Someone must've altered the timeline. If so, who is it? |

Their concept is best described as a lost of innocence and inner child in a person. With a mix of dark fantasy and an adventure of ten boys discovering themselves, as they fight their inner demons. The lore will be revealed and expanded in every comebacks and even variety shows. Sometimes albums has no sense of order of continuation in the story, to further point the mental psyche of a human being. Even though the lore is heavily prominent in their comebacks, it doesn't take over their whole concept that they build since debut.
