I:O (Japanese: アイオ; Korean: 아이오; also known as Interstellar Operation, formerly known as IO) is an 10-members Japanese girl group under SOURCE ON Japan. Formed through the survival show Girls' Fantasy: Japan, they made their debut on May 22, 2024, with their first digital single "START".

The group name takes it's initials from Interstellar Operation. With the meaning of the group will reach milestones above and beyond our galaxy. The name is also a symbolization of the binary system with 1's and 0's.

History[]

Pre-Debut[]

Prior to the show Ito Furata debuted as a soloist on May 26, 2023, Hatarimura Mae and Nakano Miyumi participated on HEARTBEAT Project: +, Takeuchi Sumire debuted as an actress on 2020, Yokoya Mina and Aoki Momo were part of a teenage dance crew TEEND, Nakamura Himena was a trainee in Korea for 4 years.

On April 28, 2023, TokiToki dropped their first teaser of Girls' Fantasy: Japan. On September 1, 2023, TokiToki revealed the first 25 contestants, The rest of the 25 contestants were revealed on September 4, 2023. Their profiles were released respectfully on the website tokitoki.girlsfantasy.jp. It was shortly revealed that the show would premiere on November 10, 2023.

On January 12, 2024, the finale of Girls' Fantasy: Japan was livestreamed revealing the final line-up. Ranking from 1st to 10th as follows: Yotsuya Aeri, Hatarimura Mae, Watanabe Ayara, Nakano Miyumi, Ito Furata, Uehara Nina, Aoki Momo, Takeuchi Sumire, Yokoya Mina and Nakamura Himena. Shortly after the members were revealed, the group name was revealed to be IO, which stands for Interstellar Operation. The group would explore the universe with their music.

Debut:[]

On January 15, 2024, the profile pics for IO and the members were posted across the groups official SNS accounts. On a livestream held that day it was revealed that the group would make their debut in the second quarter of 2024. At the same time the group revealed the fandom name "superB" and it's fandom colors. hey revealed the fandom name and the group's official colors.

On January 22, 2024, the agency changed the group name from IO to I:O.

On April 8, 2024, SOURCE ON Japan revealed that I:O will make their awaited debut on May 22, 2024 with their first digital single "START".

On July 1, 2024, SOURCE ON Japan revealed that I:O would release their second single "Ice Pop", the single would be released on August 7, 2024.

On November 11, 2024, SOURCE ON Japan revealed that I:O would be making a comeback with their third digital single "Winter Wonderland". The single would be released on December 16, 2024.

On March 31, 2025, SOURCE ON Japan revealed that I:O would be making a comeback with their first EP LoveLU.. The EP would be released on May 19, 2025.

On April 16, 2025, The members official mascots I:MATEs were revealed with their respective names.
