To the South Korean public, Minji has been titled “the queen of Gen Z fashion”. Ever since her runway debut, she has been constantly in the public eye. Despite all the pressure, she always appears professional. Minji has said that she doesn’t find the pressure to be that bad, and enjoys being an icon for people around her age. She is often ahead of the trends, and her style contrasts well with the popular styles. Minji’s style can be attributed to what was called the “Classy Girl Revolution”, a small fashion trend that became popular among a large amount of her fans.
Minji has been complimented for her professional attitude, and how polite she is. She is quite reserved, but never closed off. Many videos of her greeting other people at events have gone viral due to how kind and warm she is. This distanced yet soft attitude has caused a lot of her fans to feel a sense of a parasocial bond towards her, as she feels both out of reach and in reach. Minji has expressed distaste for this, saying she loves her fans, but that there is a separation between her and them that should be kept.
As Minji is constantly in the public eye, she has faced a lot of criticism. Many male critics have pointed out her cold glares to unwanted attention from men. There are a few viral videos of Minji reacting negatively to being around male celebrities that she is not friendly with. She will often distance herself from them at events, and becomes less like her normal overly-polite self when she interacts with them. Minji has stated that it is nothing personal, but that as someone who has been in the industry since she was young, she would rather interact with people she finds comfortable. To Minji, that means she is more likely to be friendly with other female celebrities, and a handful of male celebrities who are around her age.
Another criticism of Minji is her sassy attitude when she is not in a professional setting. On many casual programs she has attended, Minji has shown her more confident and talkative side. She always keeps a professional side, but has gotten into hot water for speaking freely about certain topics. A comment she made about being a feminist gave her huge backlash from domestic male fans, even though it gave her a good image to her international fans.
