Star Maker X 101[]
In 2022, Hwang Jaesang participated on the reality show “Star Maker X 101”. He was eliminated quickly on the first eliminations, not leaving an impression on the audience on the show much.

Useless[]
As soon as he stepped in the building of Star Maker X 101, he had a gut feeling he wasn’t going to make it far. The company had seen the success of Kim Sangwoo, and wanted more trainees to participate on shows to help grow the company. Jaesang knew all the CEO wanted to do was overwork the trainees to gain more and more. If he didn’t do well, there would be nothing waiting for him back at the company.
His audition didn’t go well. He got an F, the lowest rank. “Just eliminate me already why don’t you” he thought after the judges highly criticized the performance for being sloppy.
When the eliminations struck, names and names kept being called, none of them his. “Yi Seungho got an F but he wasn’t eliminated, why would he be?” he told himself. Kyubok’s name was called. He had never talked to Kyubok before this show, he seemed like a really boring and flat person in his opinion, but nonetheless it gave him hope he would be called.
When all of the names were called and he was eliminated at 95th, he was devastated. He was a failure. The company doesn’t take failures. As he was driven back to the agency, the staff berated him about his poor work on the show. “How are you so untalented and uninteresting that you don’t even survive the first round?”, “You can’t even sing well”, “You are useless”. And maybe that staff member was right. Maybe he was useless. Maybe he didn’t deserve to be an idol. He would never make it in the industry. All of his dreams are useless. But maybe he would try one more time to prove them wrong.
Jealousy[]
He always got what he wanted. Seo Jisang, prized trainee of CNA Entertainment, was going to another survival show. To be fair, Jaesang didn’t know what show it was, the company had been keeping him out of the loop of everything since he placed abysmally on Star Maker, but all of the trainees were talking about it as he auditioned for the show.
He hadn’t even been accepted but Jaesang knew he would get the part. He was perfect. They gave him everything, he had the visuals, the talent, the charisma, everything Jaesang knew he barely had an ounce of. Jaesang remembered the time Jisang went to Search The Cosmos, the short period they were actually close. He walked up to Jisang in the hallway excited to see him go on the show. “Jisang! This opportunity is so great for you! I really hope you and Sangwoo debut so much!!” he had said, “Thanks man. I heard I’ll be going against the top trainees so I’ll need luck” he said back, “Well here, have this.” he had given him his lucky necklace, the one he used for auditioning for this company in the first place, and the one he used for every trainee evaluation he ever did at the company.
Jisang never gave it back. Jaesang noticed he wears it proudly as if it was his, showing it off, pretending Jaesang never even gave it to him. After Search The Cosmos Jisang changed, Jisang was stuck up and full of himself, there was no other explanation for his rudeness when he came back.
Jaesang agreed to go on Star Maker because it was a good opportunity for him and it would gain him a following, but part of him was agreeing just to show that Jisang isn’t the only talented one, he isn’t the only one in the company that’s good, he’s useless, disposable, not as valuable as everyone sees him to be. Everywhere Jaesang went he couldn’t escape it everyone always talked about him nobody would shut up about how talented, good looking, charismatic, friendly, and confident he is. Jisang is all he could think about when he got to the building and it’s all he could think about when he left.
“Am I insane? Am I the only one jealous? Am I crazy?” we’re all thoughts Jaesang had as he went to sleep the night Jisang had auditioned for the show. Jaesang wanted to pull his hair out, why did Jisang get all of these opportunities. Multiple brand deals, multiple survival shows, all of the staff and trainees bending over backwards for this one man. He answered all of his previous questions with one sentence. “Yes, I am crazy, but I know I deserve everything and more than him”.
