We're your hero! Hello, we are HERCULES!!
(We're your hero! 안녕하세요, 헤라클레스 클럽입니다!)

—HERCULES

HERCULES (헤라클레스) is a nine-member boy group under Olympic Records. They debuted on July 1, 2007 with the EP HERCULES.

The group is Olympic Records' flagship group and their concept is often credited as being the reason for the label's rebrand. The group's self-imposed nickname that's stuck is 'Himbodols;' a portmanteau of Himbo & Idols.

History[]

Pre-Debut[]

Prior to the group's official debut, an internal initiative known as Project O was being undertaken. Whilst on surface level it referred to the debut of what was then Mountain Peak Plaza's next boy group, it in itself represented a larger branding change for the company.

As a boy group debut, Project O began in 2003 with a small group of trainees. Former B.O.S.S member Ryu Duck-Gyu was briefly a member before debuting with B.O.S.S.

2012: Line-up changes and DAYBREAK[]

On May 20, it was reported that members Dokwon and Seomin had terminated their exclusive contracts with Olympic Records and were seeking new agencies. On May 24, Olympic Records confirmed the termination and subsequent departure of the two members from HERCULES. In the same statement, the company confirmed that HERCULES would continue as a quintet. The group held a farewell concert on June 6. Dokwon would undertake his mandatory military service immediately before returning to education and Seomin would seek an acting agency.

Following the departure of Dokwon and Seomin, Olympic Records announced on June 29 that the members of HERCULES sought new members to 'breathe some fresh life' into the group. Various male trainees were selected and competed in an internal pseudo-survival show; during The Pantheon's summer concerts, the trainee boys performed in front of the crowds who then voted for their favourite trainees.

On September 1, members Welbie, Seyeon and Daekyung joined HERCULES.

2016: Return of Dokwon and Military Services[]

On January 4, it was announced that members Hakyun, Seyeon and Daekyung had begun their mandatory military service.

On June 11, it was announced that former member Dokwon would be re-joining HERCULES, turning the group into a then six-piece and later nine-piece collection.

2017: Tenth anniversary and departure of Theo and Dokwon[]

On September 10, Olympic Records announced that member Theo had ultimately decided to not renew his contract and would be leaving HERCULES.

On December 12, it was announced that member Dokwon's exclusive contract had come to an end and he chose not to renew it. He would resign under Olympic Records as an actor under the stage name Kwon Kyunhyo.

2021: Return of Seomin, Dokwon and Theo[]

On July 1, the group's fourteenth debut anniversary, it was announced that members Seomin, Dokwon and Theo would return to the group for nine months beginning on November 1. Member Dokwon announced through a V-LIVE that he would promote under his new stage name Kyunhyo. HERCULES would promote as a ten-membered group until the final release on the group's fifteenth debut anniversary.

2022: Fifteenth Anniversary, Departure of Theo[]

On June 20, days after the announcement of the final album, Olympic Records announced that members Kyunhyo and Seomin had chosen to return to the group permanently, cementing a nine-membered lineup. Although many Heroes had hoped a similar statement would come later regarding member Theo, he personally took to Instagram and indicated that he was unable to do so due to conflicting interests.

Following the end of promotions in August, Theo revealed that he had been chosen to head Olympic Studio; Olympic Records' Western subsidiary and thus would be unable to return to the group.
