Kim Haram (김하람) known professionally as HARAM (하람), is a South Korean indie & ballad singer, songwriter and composer under Heaven's Entertainment. She debuted on October 24, 2016 with her first mini-album, Ghost Girl. Before her debut, she's known for producing 6topia's ballad songs.
Early life[]
HARAM was born on April 9, 1998, in Mapo-gu, Seoul, South Korea. Her family consists of her parents and younger sister.
Since elementary school, HARAM has dreamed of being a poet and writer. She fervently submitted her writings to elementary-level competitions and has won several of them.
At age 9, HARAM was introduced to music as she became interested in playing instruments such as the guitar and the piano, which later she would regularly take lessons. Alongside her passion for writing, she wondered if she could balance them both in the future, which led her to change her focus from writing poetry to writing songs for herself. Eventually, she became too invested in doing her hobby and wanted to pursue a career in music.
She was discovered by Kang Yeona, one of the two CEOs of Heaven's Entertainment, through a talent scout event she organized during the 6topia audition in 2012. Yeona was mesmerized by an unreleased, self-written, composed song she overheard from a local record store that belonged to HARAM's parents. As the agency has yet to open an audition for female trainees, HARAM was granted permission to audition as a producer by showcasing her musical ability through her composition and songwriting. She made a deep impression on woodVALE and other agency producers with more of her unreleased songs. In 2013, at the age of 15, HARAM officially became one of the youngest Heaven's Entertainment producers up to date, alongside 6topia's haku.. She is also the first female trainee ever to join the company.
2013—2016: Trainee period[]
As a special trainee, HARAM's training focused on her being a singer and a producer. During her trainee years, she contributed to composing several ballad songs for the boy group 6topia. woodVALE, her mentor, described her as a "kid genius." She frequently took songwriting lessons with him, and he thought the sessions were "smooth, fast and easy. I was just there to be her editor. At such young age, she is capable of writing songs that are crystal clear and could come up with some of the most amazing hooks I have ever heard." She started to write several songs, and one of them is "Hollow" which became her debut mini-album's title track.
In an interview, HARAM revealed that her biggest motivation to debut was to follow the footsteps of her idols, 10cm and Hyukoh. She was inspired by how those two artists slowly rose into the mainstream and maintained their musical identity. She wishes to popularize the K-indie genre domestically and internationally, and like her idols, she always kept her roots and reached her dreams.
Career[]
2016-2017: Debuting as an indie act[]

HARAM was announced as Heaven's first debuting soloist on September 30, 2016
After 2 and a half years of training, Kim Haram was ready to debut as Heaven's Entertainment's first soloist and second artist. In June 2016, it was reported that she was working on new music that will be debuted a few months later, which was subsequently scheduled for October 24, 2016. Heaven's Entertainment announced on their SNS that they will debut a new artist 2 years after their first and only artist, 6topia, debuted. Due to the vague identity of who was about to debut, the public speculated that it would be HARAM, one of the trainees and producers for 6topia. They hit the bullseye as HARAM was revealed to debut through a prologue teaser released on September 30, 2016.
HARAM's professional SNS was launched on October 2, 2016. On this day, she revealed the title of her debut mini-album, Ghost Girl, alongside its scheduler and its title track, Hollow (우묵한 Umughan in the original Korean). HARAM officially debuted on October 24.
On October 29, five days after her debut, HARAM revealed her official fandom name as "Heavenly" (plural: "Heavenlies") through a V Live broadcast. It was personally named by her, taken directly from her label's name. The initial of her fandom name also suits her name. She wants to give a divine name to her fans as she thinks of her fans as her precious little angels.
On April 3, 2017, HARAM released her first studio album, Ghost Girl's Diary, three days before her 19th birthday. It is a follow-up and completing the Ghost Girl duology. Upon the release of her first album, the title track "You Smile at Me" reached the Top 10 Gaon chart, making it her first song to achieve such feat.
On April 21, 2017, HARAM made her soundtrack debut with the release of "Love Has Come to Me" as part of the K-drama OST Strong Woman Do Bong Soon.
On December 4, 2017, HARAM released her second mini album, Empty Glamour, a brand new series in her discography that introduces her new protagonist, Princess Glamour.
2018—2019: elysian fields, MORGANA, and first nationwide concert tour[]
On May 7, 2018, HARAM released her first single album, elysian fields, which directly narrates her life through the first person's perspective. The lead single, "pray tell," was positively received by the South Korean public and charted on Korean streaming services for quite a while, from May to July 2018. HARAM achieved her first top 5 on Gaon Digital Chart with the single. Most of her fans come from the indie music scene and are fans of her labelmate 6topia, with whom she helped produce some of their most well-known ballad songs. She often sells out small-scale venues and gains a solid following in Hongdae, an area in Seoul known for being the epicenter of South Korea's indie music scene. HARAM is also known for philanthropy, supporting record stores everywhere in Seoul by providing her autographed albums for free.
On June 6, 2018, HARAM's first variety show, Seoul in Their Eyes, began airing on Heaven's Entertainment's YouTube channel. The show grows to be loved by the general public as she invites people's favorite artists and the educational content that can be watched by audiences of all ages.

Heavenly Tea Party Tour
HARAM reached a new height in her career as the pre-release single from her second studio album, MORGANA (released November 5, 2018), "Fatamorgana" featuring Oracool, gained immense popularity. MORGANA is a work inspired by artists HARAM became friends with through Seoul in Their Eyes. It is an album about hardships of being a woman in the music industry, anger, and regret that HARAM considered as her magnum opus. Due to the unhinged and raw lyrics which criticizing Korean society, "Fatamorgana" and the album's title track "Witch Hunt" caused several controversies. However, HARAM was backed up by her fellow indie artists who openly loved and supported the song. Even influential artists such as BTS RM and Red Velvet Irene recommended "Witch Hunt" to their fans.
"Fatamorgana" became one of the few indie songs that swept music charts domestically, competing with K-pop idols' releases. On September 11, 2019, the song ranked number one in the real-time charts and number two on Billboard K-pop 100 and Gaon Digital Chart. It remained on the charts for almost a year and earned Platinum certifications from the KMCA after surpassing 100 million streams and 2.5 million downloads on Gaon Music Chart. The "Fatamorgana" hype managed to resurface HARAM's past songs such as "Hollow" (2016), "You Smile at Me" (2017), "All That Glitters" (2017), and "pray tell" (2018) on the charts. The success of "Fatamorgana" positively impacted the album's release two months after, where six out of eleven songs reached the top 20 Weekly Gaon Charts. She also earned her first c show win in M Countdown for the song "Fatamorgana."
To promote MORGANA and her past albums, HARAM embarked on her first tour, "Heavenly Tea Party Tour" from February 16 to March 16, 2019. She toured five cities (Seoul, Cheongju, Daegu, Busan, and Jeonju) and held seven sold-out shows, garnering over 8,000 audiences.
The burning of Heaven's Entertainment in June 2019 forced HARAM and the whole company to take hiatus until the company recovered from the damage. During this time, HARAM used the opportunity to expand her artistic horizons. A genre she has wanted to explore was Korean traditional music, gugak, and learning to play instruments and perform its unique vocal style. She became acquaintances with the Gyeonggi minyo singer, Im Gyeongja, who trained her how to sing in minyo. HARAM was also often seen at her family's record store, attracting fans seeking a chance to meet her.
2020—2022: 효, Merry Company, Ode to Patient Zero of Clinomania, and The Butterfly Migration World Tour[]
Heaven's rose from the ashes after a radio silence of over 18 months, and HARAM did the same. On November 30, 2020, she finally dropped her much-anticipated mini album, titled 효 (Hyo) by Heavenlies and the whole K-indie scene. With the release of this album and the title track "Red Spider Lily" HARAM officially began exploring various types of sounds; she will gradually become known for her neverending attempts at that. This is seen in Hyo, a record of Korean traditional music delivered exceptionally well even though it included sounds unheard of from her past albums.
Five months after the release of 효, HARAM once again returned with her second digital single, "Worship Song", featuring a guest artist, the one and only Espada of 6topia, on May 29, 2021. The song was made available for digital streaming and released by Heaven's Entertainment as a surprise, as there had been no announcement that HARAM was making a comeback, let alone that she would be collaborating with Espada out of all artists in the world. To add to the shock factor, the music video accompanying the single featured Anemone of NAIAD, completing the Heaven's Holy Trinity of HARAM, 6topia, and NAIAD.
On July 13, 2021, HARAM released her first EP, Merry Company, alongside its title track, "Performance of a Lifetime".
In December 2022, HARAM released the digital single "Our Christmas Tree" as a part of HYPE Labels' Christmas Wishes Project.
2023—present: Ingénue and new heights[]

On 9/11, 2024, Heaven's Entertainment revealed that HARAM would be making her long-awaited comeback through their SNS, announcing that the CB would happen on September 23, 2024, officially ending everyone's favorite mother drought. On September 23, the album was released alongside the MV for "Neon Butterfly" on all streaming platforms.
"Neon Butterfly" was an unprecedented success for the indie singer, launching her into a new career height since "Fatamorgana" as it hit the Perfect All-Kill score, dominating the domestic charts for five non-consecutive weeks, and winning 12 music show wins in total, as well as the prestigious Song of the Year at the Seoul Music Performance Awards and Shining Groove Awards.
HARAM then embarked on her second world tour of her Asia and Australia leg, "Featuring Sakata Nagi," which began in Seoul on December 6, 2024 and concluded on February 9, 2025 in Sydney.
Personality[]
HARAM is known as a very kind, warm, accepting, and bubbly person. She is a social butterfly who has the power to make everyone fall in love with her through her charm and talent. In building her career and friendship, she never discriminates against anyone and is among one of the most outspoken, open-minded figures in the K-pop industry. That became a double-edged sword to her reputation, mainly among the Koreans, but she couldn't care less, stating that as long as she stays authentic, nothing else matters.
In people's eyes, she is known for having a very soft and kind gaze, but at the same time, she exudes an "alpha" aura, almost intimidating. People acknowledge that she is a powerful and talented woman who usually works behind the scene during her trainee years. Her long-time collaborator, 6topia, mentioned how they have so much fun working with HARAM and deeply respect her work ethic and carefree style.
HARAM is an avid listener of the indie and alternative genres, and she is an artist of these two genres herself. One of her long-life dreams is to further promote the Korean indie genre as widespread as K-pop to a broader audience. Her favorite thing is perhaps talking about her music taste and sharing them with her fans.

Concept and characters[]
If 6topia gets involved as the characters of their music's storyline, HARAM utilizes characters to tell her story in her music. In Ghost Girl duology, she writes about her mental health journey in high school through the story of a fictional wandering soul of a dead high schooler. In Empty Glamour she writes about the crushing weight of being the eldest daughter. The narratives in her music interweave fiction and her own reality, which is unique to her. This concept parallels Heaven's Entertainment's knack for fictional themes and stories. Some of her most known characters are the Ghost Girl and Princess Glamour.

Simply known as the Ghost Girl, she is HARAM's first character and was featured in her debut mini album and its repackage, Ghost Girl and Ghost Girl's Diary. She is a high school girl who died in a road accident. Due to her abrupt death, her soul could not rest knowing that she had not yet made amends to people she wronged in the past. Miraculously, she was granted the ability to manifest herself as a visible ghost to say goodbye to her beloved ones properly. According to HARAM, it is a body of work that tells the story of forgiveness and the courage to choose love from her still-young understanding of the ugly yet wonderful world. In her debut V-live, she stated:
“ | This album is how I interpret life. It is how I interpret the life of teenage girls who got caught up with problems and dilemmas of growing to be an adult...when they are not ready to be one just yet. I dedicate this album to all girls like me who despise growing up but have no choice but to accept it. I do apologize if the concept and title of the album sound...a bit ominous, but you know, I have to because I love me a little bit of a dark twist~ | „ |

Princess Glamour is the main character featured in HARAM's 2nd mini album, Empty Glamour. In the album, she is portrayed as a princess of a forlorn country far, far away, who was on the brink of destruction if not for her wisdom, courage, and forced ascension to the throne, which prompted her to yearn to escape from such regal duties.

Morgana is the main character featured in HARAM's eponymous 2nd studio album, MORGANA. She is a young, mischievous witch who uses her talent of shapeshifting to wander around the human realm in search of meaning.

Morgana introduction.
“ | I can't think of any character that can represent this album better than Morgana herself. She is often underestimated due to her young age in her coven community, even by her own mother. Unbeknownst to her, Morgana is much, much smarter than they credited her for: She utilizes her shapeshifter talent to wander around the human realm, learning more about people, how human relationships work, and everything that previously was a mystery to her. Throughout her journey, she made friends with those who could accept her in her true form. They genuinely wanted to be friends with Morgana without her having to shapeshift to be accepted. And that was when she realized that her worth does not come from her innate status as a witch, and I want more idols to share the same character growth as Morgana. | „ |

The Crane is the main character featured in 효 (Hyo). It is a heavenly creature that soars through the sky to spread the message that HARAM is back from the ashes.

Songwriting[]
HARAM's songwriting has gained a devoted following, particularly among LGBTQ+ fans and young women. Often dubbed "Mother Coven" by her fans, HARAM champions inclusivity and creates a safe space through her music. Her lyrics delve into relatable themes: the girlhood experience, mostly being oppressed by the god-awful men of Korea, the challenges women face in the music industry, the complexities of navigating adulthood, the bittersweet nostalgia of childhood, and navigating the pressures of South Korean society's obsession with perfection. While HARAM's metaphors can be subtle, her core message resonates deeply with her target audience. Fans describe her music as a source of comfort and connection, instantly grasping the deeper meaning behind her lyrics.
Vocal[]
HARAM's vocal style leans towards the smooth vocal style, characterized by a breathy delivery that evokes early 2000s K-pop aesthetics. While some might perceive this stylistic choice as derivative, it undeniably contributes to her music's comforting and nostalgic atmosphere. She can rip out high notes within her lyric soprano range, which is thought to be between C#3 and Bb5, although she has admitted that she struggles to sing emotionally charged songs. Overall, HARAM's voice is strangely comforting, putting listeners at ease, which is exactly what people seek when listening to her songs.

Residence[]

HARAM's apartment
In a reality show, HARAM revealed the interior design of her current residence in a tiny luxurious apartment complex in Seoul through a dollhouse she commissioned. Despite having enough money to afford a more spacious, luxurious, and bigger house, HARAM, who loves to live in a tiny house, chose to live in a small apartment instead. She said it has been her dream to build a tiny house from scratch with her own design in the future and locate them in a comfortable Korean countryside. However, as her idol job demands her to live in Seoul, she pushes her goal to achieve that dream sometime later in the future. She is one step closer to achieving that dream by living in this tiny apartment.
Her apartment consists of two floors. On the first floor, a living room is connected to the kitchen, dining room, and bathroom. The second floor is her loft bedroom, where she carefully locates her bed, piano, wardrobe, vanity, and study desk. She said that she decorated her apartment with her dad's help. She went with a cozy and homey look with the design, placing paintings her younger sister drew around the house and plants her parents sent her. She said she's looking forward to adopting a pet dog or cat soon so she has a companion in her tiny place.
