Shin Geon (신건), better known by his stage name Geon (건) is a South Korean singersongwriter under Heaven's Entertainment. He is the main vocalist, center and lead dancer of 6topia.
Geon made his solo music debut with the studio album Fragments on April 22, 2024, which was preceded with the release of the single "How I Really Feel" on April 19, 2024. The album debuted at number one on the Circle Album Chart, with 1,021,523 copies sold during its first week.
Early life[]
Pre-trainee days.
Shin Geon was born and raised in Busan, a city on the southeast coast of South Korea. His family consists of his father, mother, a big sister, Eunji (28 years old), and younger brother, Yejun (23 years old).
Prior to his involvement with Heaven's Entertainment, Geon was a renowned young café singer in Busan who also underwent dance practice. Although he stated that he sang and danced as hobbies, Geon longed for a time when he could debut as an idol. At the age of 15, he secretly auditioned for Heaven's Entertainment. Among thousands of auditionees, Geon ranked first in the domestic audition. The judges were deeply impressed and stated that his vocal capacity, range, tone, and overall control over his voice could only be comparable to veteran vocalists. Before he could sign the contract with Heaven’s, his audition footage got leaked by a hacker and went viral on YouTube for days before it was taken down. The leaked footage was enough to overexpose him to larger existing companies, who immediately offered to sign him under their labels. The accident and sudden offers made the petty Geon savagely turn down their offers, and he happily agreed to be officially signed under the newly started Heaven's instead. He became 6topia's second member to be signed as a trainee. He debuted in 2014 as the group's main vocalist, center, and lead dancer.

Career[]
2010-2014: Heaven's Entertainment and Debut with 6topia[]
Outdoor accoustic performance in 2014 to promote Human Nature
On December 27, 2013, Geon, alongside Re;0, was officially revealed as 6topia's second and third member through Heaven's Entertainment SNS and YouTube. The group debuted on February 10, 2014, with the single "Human Nature." The public immediately acknowledged Geon as a powerful main vocalist and a befitting center of the group.
The group's debut mini-album, Touchdown: Dystopia, was released on July 18, 2014, alongside its second single, "Chaos Theory."
2015: Fool's Paradise & Never After[]
In 2015, 6topia released their second mini-album, Fool's Paradise, on January 30 and their first studio album, Never After, on October 9. Throughout the promotion of both releases, Geon showcased his passion by putting it all into the group's performances. In the beginning, he mentioned how challenging it was to be responsible for his center and main vocalist position and often felt pressured to always be perfect on camera. As time passed, he began to look more relaxed and "go with the flow" and eventually let his fellow members bear the burden he carried alone. In his second year of debuting with 6topia, he never expected to receive love from so many people who not only enjoy their music but also appreciate them as "human beings AND idols." He wanted to continue to work hard and support his group.
2019-2020: Group hiatus and acting debut[]
Another Romance Story (2020)
Geon and Gyumin.
After the burning of Heaven's Entertainment's building, the agency had to halt their artists activities for more than a year. During this time, Geon took the opportunity to debut as an actor. His charm, talent, and K-drama lead visual was recognized by the director of MBS's Another Romance Story, and was casted as one of the main leads alongside his acting partner Im Gyumin. He plays the role of "Song Ji-sang", the authoritarian class president who has to deal with the new prankster in school "Ji Seon" portrayed by Gyumin. The show received largely positive reviews for its humor that frequently poked fun at generic K-drama tropes, while also tapping into often taboo topics such as mental health, toxic masculinity and sexuality. Both male leads, despite being singers, were praised for their acting abilities and strong chemistry.
At first, Geon did not expect to debut as an actor only 6 years into his music career, let alone debut as a BL drama lead. However, he was grateful for the experience, and Another Romance Story boosted his confidence to do more acting gigs in the future. More than anything, he was happy with how Utopians, especially international Utopians, showed overwhelming support for him. He also became really close with Gyumin throughout and after their drama's promotion. He said thanks to Gyumin he fulfilled one of his bucket lists: french-kissing a really, really hot guy with a burning passion.
As of 2023, Another Romance Story remains as the only drama Geon starred in as he wanted to focus on his activity with 6topia.
2021: Love life[]
Geon, known for his cool "Ice Prince" image, confessed a surprising reason for his initial hesitation towards acting: a fear of falling for his co-star. Ironically, his worst fear came true. He fell to the irresistible charm of Gyumin, who, much to his shock, had been his fan since his debut at 17, even pursuing a K-pop idol career because of his influence. His constant interaction with Gyumin during the filming only deepened his affection for him and, later, evolved into something more than just a friendship/brotherly love.
Star News 2023: Geonmin official reveal
Despite being older, Geon was rather shy and took a bit of time to open up to Gyumin, which was almost the exact opposite of the younger one, who was very, very straightforward and always direct with his flirting. Gyumin's playful winks during rehearsals, his habit of lingering just a touch too long during their scenes, and the way he overcomplimented and constantly teased his hyung made Geon fall harder and harder. For him, it was a pleasant torture. Due to their mis and match dynamics, everyone and their mother, especially geon-biased Utopians and Gyukkumis, shipped them so hard they started demonic rituals so they could fall in love harder and reveal their own dating rumors faster than Dispatch would. These two joined fandoms became more erratic once Geon and Gyumin were spotted often going on many dates without their crew following them around. Literally the ship was saur good they started dating in real life, so true.
This heightened anticipation finally climaxed on Valentine's Day 2023 when Star News confirmed the rumors everyone already knew – Geon and Gyumin were indeed a couple. With over 500,000 likes in less than 24 hours, the Star News tweet became the most liked tweet of all time on the platform, solidifying Geonmin's, their official ship name, position as one the industry's most unexpected yet endearing couples.
Some people were not happy with the news. Toxic fujoshis, who had paired Geon with other 6topia members, were so angry that they sent trucks to Heaven's building to demand that 4Bloc be removed as Heaven's sub-label. This would limit Geon's interaction with Gyumin, ultimately freeing 6topia members from further involvement with 4Bloc's artists. On social media, especially Twitter, Knets and I-fans alike, started a massive campaign to separate the two, even sending death threats to those who defended the newly announced couple. Heaven's Entertainment took legal action and shut down the perpetrators, just like Starship Entertainment handled its legal issue with notorious YouTuber Sojang. Geon and Gyumin have also explicitly stated in their respective lives that they will not stop loving each other. They would like everyone, especially those who call themselves fans, to be supportive of their tight-knit relationship.

In August 2023, Geon co-wrote and featured on the song "Smile & Groove" by his boyfriend, Gyumin, a b-side of his debut EP of the same name.
2024-present: Solo debut with Fragments and military enlistment[]
Fragments era
Shin Geon achieved many things during his time as a member of 6topia. He helped establish the group's reputation as a powerful vocal powerhouse, drew in fans as a super-talented center, and later, by being openly gay and dating Gyumin—his acting debut's romantic interest—he helped broaden the group's appeal. The years have passed, and his only remaining task is to release an album as a solo artist. Two years after teasing Utopians about his solo project since early 2022, the perfect opportunity for him to fully fulfill his promise to them would be in 2024, when he will enlist alongside his fellow member Jack, who will also release a solo project.
Since Haku's solo debut in 2023, Geon's solo debut has been one of the most anticipated events due to his position as the group's main vocalist, center, and most popular member domestically. Finally, on March 28, 2024, alongside the announcement that Geon will be making his solo debut with his first studio album Fragments, his solo insignia, "Two-Faced Moon", was revealed on Twitter and various other SNS platforms and Heaven's Entertainment's official website. The reveal caused hysteria as not only THEE Shin Geon was about to unleash his slayagery as a soloist, Heaven's also confirmed that Geon would be enlisting shortly after the Fragments promotion period was over at the beginning of June 2024. He became the second in the group after haku. to make his official solo debut.
Geon is credited as a writer for all 13 tracks on his debut album.
Fragments achieved impressive pre-order numbers within days of its release. The album garnered over 850,000 pre-orders in just two weeks, surpassing 1.12 million pre-orders in just three weeks. By April 20, Fragments had exceeded 1.21 million pre-orders. Upon its release, the album broke records, selling 731,279 copies on the first day and 1,021,523 copies during the first week, surpassing the previous record set by bandmate haku.'s debut studio album hakutopia. The physical edition of the album debuted at number one on the Circle Album Chart, selling 775,922 copies. In comparison, the Nemo version debuted at number seven with 78,294 copies sold, and the Kit version at number seven with 52,599 copies sold. The album remained at the top spot for a full week, and by the end of 2024, Fragments ranked at number 30 on the year-end Circle Album Chart, having sold 1,093,067 copies, while the Nemo version ranked at number 98 with 137,900 copies sold.
Alongside Jack, Geon enlisted on July 12, 2024, and will be discharged on January 11, 2026.
Personality[]
Geon's smile that radiates warmth.
The modest, talented center of the group. No matter how many times people praise him for his powerful vocals, dance, and visuals, he always stays humble and rarely seeks the spotlight for himself. He appreciates all the love he gets, especially from Utopians, and gives it back tenfold through his stellar performances as a part of 6topia.
Geon is a walking contradiction—aloof, yet he knows how to be a people person, often comes across as "cold," yet that coldness itself is the source of his charisma, humble yet very confident in himself and his abilities. All in all, light and darkness gathered within the same person. The constant criticism from akgaes and solo stans over why he did not make his debut as a soloist irritates Geon to no end; he views it as an insult to himself and his fellow members of the group because, in his opinion, he would not shine as the Geon everyone knows. He is a team player who wants to ensure the success and happiness of his members, and connecting the music they create to the public is what he excels at through his vocals. He enjoys his position as the group's center—and as talented as he is, he admits that he still has much to learn from other members and the company's staff.
The Busan-born and raised vocalist is a rare blend of authenticity, genuineness, and individualism, all wrapped into one unique person. His cheerful and pompous persona is strictly reserved for people he truly cares about, which includes Utopians. He is forever grateful that Heaven's Entertainment did not put strict restrictions on acting a certain way because he values his individuality. Both he and Max have truly mastered the art of not giving flying fucks to those who do not like them. As long as he is surrounded by his precious friends, family, and friends, he is content with what life offers him.
