Dreamcast Series was a South Korean survival show which aired from June 6, 2020 to August 3, 2020. It selected 5 girls out of 100 contestants from international countries to join with Lita in a project group. Some of the contestants who joined were Korean.
Winners then would become artists under DC Entertainment until RED ROSE's disbandment.
Concept and format[]
- The Dreamcast Series chose 100 aspiring female trainees from different countries (including several from Korea) out of over 1,000 applicants. Then, each day, 5 of the 100 contestants would compete with each other in a singing contest. The winner gets to move on to the next round.
- 20 of the 100 daily contestants would proceed to compete with each other. Although each of the contestants gets a chance to promote in RED ROSE, the winner of the contests gets to become the leader of RED ROSE but only under the circumstance that Lita is no longer the leader of the project group.
- The top 5 would then participate in a singing competition. The winner is chosen based on the amount of votes they received.
- Of the 100 contestants, 26 of them were from South Korea. Although the majority of the contestants were from Japanese idol groups, none of them won the Dreamcast series.
Pre-show and Broadcast[]
- The concept for Dreamcast Series was revealed on November 9, 2019 at the Kpop global singing contest. While others speculated that all of the contestants were either Korean or Japanese, DC Entertainment revealed that they not only wanted to have Japanese contestants, but also those from other countries, including non-Asian countries. They wanted to create a project group that would promote for several years.
- On May 16, 2020, the teaser was revealed for the Dreamcast series. Some of the contestants, including Alex Reid (former member of RaNia) and Jeon Somi are revealed. Unfortunately, although Alex Reid does not rank at the top 5, she was among the most popular contestants.
