Jang Donghyuck (장동혁; or simply known as Donghyuck) is a South Korean singer, songwriter, producer, and trainee under Origin Music. He is currently a member of boy group EPHEMERA. He is best known as a former member of project boy group ORCHID which was formed on the survival show program Turbo Max.
Recognized as the "stand-out" center from his former group, he has continued to receive much love from the public for both his gorgeous "boy-next-door" face card and his well-known all-rounder capabilities. His sweet and luscious voice allows him to fully take the stage just with his singing and he has gained praise for his vocal skills. Along with his vocal talent, he is known for his talent as a producer despite being a rookie; producing countless hits in the past for his own group and one of the currently trending groups in South Korea, C9PID. He has continued to receive much more praise as a producer after being credited and fully taking part in the production in of own group's debut album, MEMOIRS OF A ROOKIE IDOL. It left many impressed to hear that he produced his own group's title track "Take My Hand" which garnered a lot of attention and love from fans and listeners.
Early life[]
Donghyuck was born on January 2, 1998, in Dongnae-gu, Seoul, South Korea. His family consists of his mother, father, two younger sisters, and two younger brothers. Even at a young age, he was frequently told how handsome he was and that his visuals alone would surely get him somewhere. At the age of 6, family friends suggested he went into child modeling, however his parents didn't want to put him in a work environment so young, not knowing how he properly felt about it. Plus they didn't want him to feel the pressure in the entertainment industry.
Growing up in such a large family he couldn't really find a way to voice out his true self. His family supported him with all they had but he just never felt the feeling of being able to truly express what he really wanted or liked. Though he found a way to express himself, which was through music. Soon enough, his form of expression grew into something more and he later found himself growing a note-worthy skill in producing at just age 13. In 2015 his family welcomed their final child. Aged 17, Donghyuck began working part-time after school as he didn't want his parents to have to worry financially about their nearly adult son in a family of already four younger siblings who were barely in high school. He graduated high school in 2016, and he recalls this time being lost in life. 'I was privileged enough to live under a nice roof with 4 loving siblings and 2 fully in-love parents, but I also didn't want to have to rely on them as they had their plates full already, and I didn't want to seem like I was ungrateful for my parents and all their hard work they had put into providing for me for nearly two decades, so I turned to music". Throughout 2016 and 2017, he helped out with his family, providing with his part-time job.
In April 2018, Donghyuck was casted on the street whilst walking back from the grocery store with one of his sisters, and flattered at first, he declined, which he did because his parents refused his wants to enter the entertainment industry when he was younger, informing him of the dangers, but he ended up accepting once he found out it was ANGELE's company, who'm his mother and father adore and own every album of.
Personality[]
Donghyuck is described to be someone who seems very expressive when it is the right time and who is very attentive to others. He doesn't tend to speak up much but rather speaks a lot or loudly when it's his turn to speak. He got this from being the oldest of 5 siblings and learning to allow them to express themselves a lot, however, he is more content with this as being surrounded by others makes him feel happier. He also expressed never feeling self-image issues, growing up confident in himself as he had always been popular in school, and being street casted helped boost his confidence too. With his confident demeanor, he is someone that is easily reliable and the type to be able to get things done. He is someone that likes to keep the mood high and does his best to keep the people he cares about feeling alright and heard. As someone who is kind to others, he provides affection and love to all the people he cares about. He wants to always be there for them as their "knight in shining armor" through hard times or just needing a hand. His caring personality is one of his best traits since he is known to be very people-oriented.
One of his other traits is being quite the jokester and he would rather make a fool out of himself to make people laugh whenever they're feeling down to cheer them up. He also likes to pull jokes and playfully tease others, viewing them as another way to keep the atmosphere fun and light. He is notably the best in variety due to how much he expresses himself, though this has become a problem with him keeping up with his idol image. One of the downsides in his personality is his way of becoming a bit too overconfident, since he is so confident in himself and his skills it can often lead to him slacking off or getting too complacent with himself.
Being one of the older members of his group, he is often seen as a role model or someone to look up to by the younger members, and because of his long experience as a trainee, he possesses the many good qualities of a leader such as being someone that can direct others well but he has expressed about how he wouldn't be a good one. He has gotten used to being someone who could lead well especially due to being the oldest out of his siblings but due to his carefreeness, he feels as if he wouldn't be able to stay organized well enough as a leader.

Career[]
2018-2022: Pre-debut[]
Donghyuck officially joined the company in early 2018, becoming the first member of 32 MEDIA's pre-debut team 32 DREAMS, where he released the self-produced digital single "Try Again". He became a popular trainee by this time and his debut was highly anticipated among the likes of SOMI. It was also around this time he became a member of the failed debut group VOYAGE, their debut being canceled in late summer 2018. He decided to stay with the company, however, admitted to growing tired of waiting for his chance to debut later in Turbo Max, saying he thought he'd be ready every few months, then another few would pass, then another few, etc. He admits he only stayed because there was no boy group debut planned he wasn't a part of, so he was confident he would end up in the group.
2022-2023: Turbo Max, ORCHID[]
After 4 years of training, he joined the survival show Turbo Max, finishing in first place and ultimately becoming the center of ORCHID. The group debuted on September 25, 2022, with the release of their first mini album, Bloom. The album received praise for being "perfect for the summer" and Donghyuck showcased his skills in both songwriting and producing; being credited as a lyricist and producer for the songs "Fine", "Perfect Love", "1000%", and "Do You Wanna". He described the group's debut promotions as one of the best experiences in his life ever.
Though because the group had a special contract that meant they would only be active for a few months together, his time as a member of ORCHID was cut short. He knew what he had signed up for but he felt sentimental feeling that time passed by way too fast. On January 25, 2023, ORCHID disbanded after their special contract was concluded. Following the group's disbandment, he returned to his original agency as a trainee. After going back he was left wondering whether or not he would even be able to become an idol again.
Sometime later that year, he presumably parted ways with 32 MEDIA.
2023: EPHEMERA[]
On July 7, he was introduced as the sixth and final member of EPHEMERA.
The group made their debut on August 31, 2023 with their first full-length album titled "MEMOIRS OF A ROOKIE IDOL".

Daejung (Jangyeo/'98 line)[]
During Turbo Max, these two were branded as the fake twins as they were born on the exact same day and sported the same hair colour and similar style. They paired together for the music show challenge, ending up in the Is It Love team alongside Xiao Ling.
Daehyun (Changz)[]
They are like brothers, despite entering the company at very different times, they immediately clicked and became the closest friends. While a part of 32 DREAMS, they recorded multiple vocal covers together, and during their time on Turbo Max they stuck together like glue, and are by far the most popular friendship in the group.
Following the group's disbandment, he has continued to give hints to fans about his friendship with Dahyun. When the other was announced to be on DIAMOND Entertainment's newest survival show, Star Maker: The Revolution, Donghyuck showed his support to his former groupmate.
Ozawa Mashiro[]
Mashiro and Donghyuck were the pranksters of 32 MEDIA, pulling pranks on trainees (including the members of C9PID), and originally became friends as Mashiro looked up to Donghyuck despite joining the company a year before him, mainly due to age and his talent. They were in Turbo Max together and Mashiro's elimination brought Donghyuck to tears, and he calls it the saddest moment of the show for him. Fans and both Mashiro and Donghyuck hope to see this pair together again one day, on stage or not.
Chaehyun (C9PID)[]
Donghyuck and Chaehyun both joined the company and different periods of 2018, and instantly hit it off. Donghyuck introduced himself by saying how he enjoyed her drama Sweet Revenge, and they became closer throughout time. In a behind clip for 32 DREAMS in 2019, they were seen laughing together and seated very closely together, leading fans to believe they were dating, neither the company nor Chaehyun and Donghyuck ever commented. Following Chaehyun's debut in early 2021, they are yet to interact with each other.
