ChoSi (초시) is a South Korean singer under Bee Entertainment. He is a member and the leader of the group Bright Lights.

History[]

Early Life[]

ChoSi was born Cho Sihyun on December 14th, 1995 in South Korea. His parents recall him being a quiet but smart child, who was always very kind.
At the age of 5, Sihyun joined a local children's choir. He never had a big interest in music, but he thought it would be fun. Sihyun found a love for singing through this, though he wasn't very good.
In 2004, Sihyun began to listen to K-pop. Before this, he would normally listen to the trot songs his parents liked, but K-pop was soemthing new for him. Sihyun enjoyed the combination of singing and dancing, and tried to cover a few songs. In 2005, Sihyun begna taking vocal lessons weekly for fun, but also so that he could sing some of the new songs he was hearing. His voice wasn't the best to start with, but through these lessons, it slowly improved.
At the age of 11, Sihyun considered becoming a K-pop idol. Although he had no experience with dance, he was willing to learn. He began to teach himself dances and would cover songs. Sihyun tried his best, but didn't improve much in dancing. By the time he was 13, Sihyun gave up on dancing and focused completely on singing.
In 2009, Sihyun began attending open mics at the cafes near where he lived. He would sing a combination of K-pop songs and trot songs, depending on the audience. Sihyun never had much stage fright, so singing in front of others was not a problem. He decided that if he couldn't be a K-pop idol, singing at places like these would be fine.
In 2010, Sihyun took a chance and auditioned for a company that had no trainees to its name, Bee Entertainment. The company's CEO, Jo Bisung, had given him a company card after hearing him sing at an open mic. Jo Bisung seemed like someone who was trustworthy and had a dream to create great artists, and Sihyun felt like giving the company a chance would be the right choice.

Predebut[]

In March 2010, Sihyun was announced as part of the STARTING BEES alongside Bae Kyunghyun, Han Yeona, and Yu Byunghee. As part of the first batch of trainees in the comapny, Sihyun and the others helped a lot with setting the initial schedule and expectations for the company's training. The four trainees became quite close friends.
In 2011, Sihyun befriend a handful of new trainees, as the company had held a second audition. He became really close friends with Jo Kihyuk, Hwang Minki, and Yang Chenhao. Throughout the year, Sihyun found himself improving greatly in his vocals. Despite this progress, Sihyun wasn't improving much in terms of dance.
In 2012, Bee Entertainment debuted its first group. Sihyun hoped he would have been considered for it, but with his lacking dance skills, he wasn't chosen to be a part of the trio. Sihyun, despite having befriended most of the growing amount of trainees, felt lonely. It was only him and Byunghee left from the STARTING BEES.
In 2013, Sihyun worked hard to improve his dance skills. He knew that his chances of debut would decrease if he didn't at least try to improve. In the later part of 2013, Bee Entertainment put together a test group for their new boy group. Sihyun was chosen to be a part of the test group, along with Byunghee, Minki, Chenhao, Kim Eunyeon, Lee Hyunjin, Kim Jiyeon, Jeon Minhyun, Lee Chaejin, and Kim Doyoung. With this chance to debut, Sihyun pushed himself to work as hard as he could.
In 2014, Bee Entertainment introduced the Bee Entertainment Trainee Showcase. At the 2014 Bee Entertainment Trainee Showcase, Sihyun was part of the A+ male trainee unit with Byunghee, Minki, and Chenhao. Sihyun's improvement in dance and singing was shown to the public in this form for the first time. Sihyun was proud of himself for the performance. He felt like he deserved his spot in the test group now, despite feeling like he wasn't ready earlier. Soon after the showcase, Byunghee was cut from the test group, due to the rapid improvement of the other trainees compared to Byunghee. Sihyun tried to convince Byunghee to stay and keep practicing, but Byunghee wanted to pursue other dreams instead. Byunghee left Bee Entertainment, leaving Sihyun as the last of the STARTING BEES. After Doyoung was cut from the test group and the group was finalized as eight, Sihyun realized that his chances of debuting were higher than ever, almost guaranteed.
In November 2014, the test group was told they would be debuting under the name Bright Lights. Sihyun was given the positions of leader, lead vocalist, and rapper. Sihyun hadn't rapped much, but had a good understanding of the skill, and therefore was given a rap position. Sihyun took his new role as the leader seriously. As practices ramped up, he displayed why he was chosen for the role, helping the other members and guiding them. Although at first Sihyun felt like he was only given the role because he was the oldest member, he came to realize that he was given it because of how much he cares about the other members. In January 2015, Bright Lights was announced to be the next Bee Entertainment artist. Sihyun was given the stage name ChoSi.
