Chae Dahee (채다희) is a South Korean singer, dancer, rapper, songwriter, producer, model, actress, and MC under YR Entertainment. She is a member of the girl group SWEETEST and a former member of the girl groups Lovely Kiss and DREAMHOUR.

She made her solo debut with the self-produced studio album, XO, dahee, on January 12, 2025.

Early life[]

Chae Dahee was born on July 8, 2001, in Seoul, South Korea, to unnamed parents. She grew up in a music-filled household, with her family playing an important role in shaping her passion. Dahee has two siblings—an older brother, Chae Minho, member of the boy group VERRI, and a younger sister, Chae Wonhee, who is a member of LOVEWAVE. Though her parents’ identities have remained private, their support has always been evident in her career.

While Dahee has kept much of her childhood private, she has spoken in past interviews about how her life has always been intertwined with music. From a very young age, she developed a deep love for the art. Dahee began piano lessons at an early age and by the time she was 8, she had already started writing her own songs. Music became the core of her world, and she was captivated by the performers she saw on TV. She would watch idols with admiration, often in awe of their talents and stage presence. This fueled her desire to pursue a career in the industry.

Dahee’s dream of becoming an idol was clear, and she had planned to audition for several entertainment companies. However, fate intervened when TYC Entertainment (now ADORE) discovered her in 2012, even before she had the chance to audition. Impressed by her talent and immense passion, the company offered Dahee a trainee contract, which she eagerly accepted. This marked the beginning of her journey toward becoming an idol.

Career[]

2014-2015: Debut with Lovely Kiss, Lovely Kiss disbandment[]

On January 26, 2014, Dahee was introduced as a Lovely Kiss member through the HKRT reality show KISS Chu~! Just weeks later, on February 14, 2014, she debuted as a member of Lovely Kiss with the single album "L.O.L (Lots of Love)".

On December 8, 2015, Lovely Kiss disbanded due to internal conflicts within the company. Many theorized it was due to the mistreatment of certain members but nothing was ever confirmed. Along with the disbandment news, she announced that she'd be terminating her contract with TYC Entertainment.

2016-2022: YR Newcomers[]

After two years of silence on her end, Dahee was officially announced to be joining YR Entertainment's trainee program, YR Newcomers, on July 21, 2016. She often updated fans with daily selcas and monthly covers, showing off what she had so strenuously practiced for YR Entertainment's monthly trainee evaluations. She quickly became popular among fans.

2022-2023: Debut with SWEETEST, MY ROOKIE IDOL[]

Finally, after 6 years of training under YR Entertainment, Dahee was introduced as the first member of SWEETEST on December 7, 2022. And 1 month later, on January 3, 2023, she debuted as a member of SWEETEST with their first mini album Love So Sweet, which she had a hand in at composing.

On November 4, 2023, she was announced to be taking part in the survival show MY ROOKIE IDOL. Fans were rightfully outraged at the news. Dahee had only debuted months prior and she was already being thrust onto a survival program which consisted of mostly trainees.

2024: Debut with DREAMHOUR[]

On January 4, 2024, Dahee was ranked 1st in the final episode of MY ROOKIE IDOL, meaning she would be debuting in brand new girl group DREAMHOUR. On March 4, 2024, she debuted in DREAMHOUR with the mini album FIRST LOVE.

On December 5, 2024, Dahee was announced to be one of the two MCs for the Shining Groove Awards, with the other being BEAUDENT member and well-known solo artist, Jin Hyun-ah. The event took place on December 14, 2024.

On December 7, 2024, YR Entertainment responded to criticism that SWEETEST is being underpromoted by announcing that the group will be pausing all activities for a while as a group. They went on to reveal that Dahee would be preparing her solo debut in the near future.

Chae Dahee is currently hard at work preparing her solo debut. It will be something unseen by fans and we're excited to share details soon.

—YR Entertainment CEO, Ha Yuri

On December 13, 2024, she sat down with HKRT News and gave some details about her upcoming solo debut. She also went on to share a snippet of one of the singles' instrumentals. The song is titled "in the back seat" and has a dreamy, dark vibe. The snippet reveal only heightened fans' anticipation for the star's upcoming album, as it promised to unveil a completely new side of her artistry that was unseen in SWEETEST.

It's very different, it's nothing that SWEETEST would release. I wrote every song by myself, and that freeness really inspried my creativity. I was able to make the kind of music I wanted to make, and all songs on the album are incredible. The concept is going to be quite a contrast, but I think fans will love it. It'll be more on the electronic side, and the album will explore themes that SWEETEST never could—such as sexuality, adulthood, and other similar ideas.

—Chae Dahee

2025: XO, dahee, "ABITTIPSY", Multiple Collaborations, Disbandment of DREAMHOUR[]

On January 1, 2025, Dahee released pre-release single, "godspeed", ahead of her upcoming solo album. The track is an experimental ballad with a theme of letting go of toxic relationships, and people in general. Along with that, the album, titled XO, dahee, was revealed to have 9 tracks, all written or co-written by Dahee. The single immediately caught the attention of many who weren't expecting such a sound from Dahee. Fans and critics alike have commented on the track, calling it emotional and unique. The track debuted on Spotify with 709,294 streams, earning a #3 placement on the South Korea Spotify Top 50, and #1 placements in both Japan and Thailand. The track also got quite a lot of good reception around other Asian nations, however that was not enough to cement a placement in the Global Spotify Top 50. On January 11, 2025, the track debuted at #1 on the BE.LIV Singles Chart, becoming the first #1 track in 2025, and the first song that was released in the year overall to debut in the top 10. The track is current projected to debut at #145 on the Billboard Top 200.

On January 4, 2025, Dahee released visual teasers for "my oh my", the second single from her upcoming debut studio album, XO, dahee. She officially released the track one day later on January 5, 2025. The upbeat, electro, mainstream-sounding pop song was a huge contrast from the previous single, "godspeed", however, fans praised Dahee for her versatility and the song did decently, dethroning "godspeed" by placing #2 on the South Korean Spotify Top 50.

On January 9, 2025, Dahee announced the track listing for XO, dahee, revealing that the album would contain 4 collaboration tracks with the artists Kwon Inha, YC (of VALERIAN), Isaiah Myung (I.M Chunso), and K.aerom. A day later, she unveiled 4 visual teasers for the upcoming album, revealing the concept and overall feel fans should except. On January 11, 2025, she released the album's lead single, "in the back seat", an alternative synth-pop song with a sultry vibe. Upon release, the track was deemed over-sexual by many conservative groups in South Korea, causing much controversy. The said controversy didn't do much to the popularity of the track though. The track debuted at #1 on the Spotify South Korea Top 50, and even achieved #47 on the Spotify USA Top 50, making it her first entry on the chart. Currently, the track is projected to debut in the Billboard Top 200 alongside one of the other singles from XO, dahee, "godspeed". The album, XO, dahee, was officially released on January 12, 2025.

On January 20, 2025, Dahee appeared on Harmony Haven to promote her freshly released debut album, XO, dahee. She, along with the hosts, Lyllian and LJ, wrote and released the song "ABITTIPSY" for the episode.

On April 9, the collaboration track between Dahee, DEC, Xavier Luna, and Seoyeon, titled "Antiretro" was released. The track debuted at No. 8 on the Circle Digital Chart issue ending April 12, 2025, while topping the Circle Download Chart. The following week, it ascended to number one, breaking the streak of G-Dragon and Anderson .Paak's "Too Bad".

On April 20, 2025, after a little more than 1 year of activity, DREAMHOUR officially disbanded. Dahee made a statement on the group's disbandment, slightly shading YW Entertainment.

The members of DREAMHOUR and I made unforgettable memories, I'll always remember those girls. It's quite regrettable that we only got 2 releases together, but I hope to meet them on stage again someday.

—Chae Dahee

On May 14, 2025, Chae Dahee was revealed to be featured on the track titled "Make Luv" from BLOOD ON WHITE SATIN's new album. BLOOD ON WHITE SATIN released their 1st mini album, Blue Blood, on May 15, 2025.

Personal life[]

Personality[]

Dahee is a confident and driven individual, known for her fierce ambition and dedication. After training for six years before debuting in SWEETEST, she’s no stranger to hard work, holding herself to high standards and always striving for excellence. Her charisma and passion for performing make her a standout both on stage and off.

While Dahee has a strong and commanding presence, she’s also deeply caring, especially towards her younger members, Yoonjung and Arev, whom she nurtures like a mother. And surrounded by peers like Pristine and Sapphire, she fosters genuine, equal friendships, allowing her playful and relaxed side to shine.

Dahee values authenticity and surrounds herself with people who inspire her, such as Sapphire’s leadership and Yeseon’s talent. She’s fiercely loyal and works hard to maintain her friendships, even across busy schedules. Fans adore her for her relatability and determination, while her friends cherish her as a source of strength and warmth.

Education[]

Chae Dahee’s academic journey in music began at Hanlim Multi Art School, one of Korea’s prestigious institutions for the arts. She enrolled in the Applied Music Department, where she focused on building a strong foundation in both performance and music theory. During her time at Hanlim, Dahee not only improved her vocal skills but also developed a deep passion for the technical side of music, including composition and arrangement. Her dedication to her craft allowed her to graduate on February 10, 2020, standing out as a promising talent among her peers.

Later that year, Dahee took her education to the next level by enrolling in the prestigious Korean National University of Arts (K-Arts). There, she majored in composition, seeking to further her understanding of the creative and technical aspects of music creation. The environment at K-Arts, surrounded by some of the most talented minds in the music industry, provided Dahee with the opportunity to expand her musical knowledge and refine her compositional abilities. Throughout her time at K-Arts, Dahee balanced her studies with her career as an idol, often applying the concepts she learned in her coursework to her work in the industry.

Dahee's hard work and passion for her studies paid off when she graduated with a degree in composition on February 20, 2024. This achievement not only solidified her credibility as a skilled composer but also opened doors for her to pursue more creative projects within the music industry, where she plans to continue making her mark.

Friendships[]

  • Bailey: Despite the six-year age gap between them, Dahee and Bailey have formed a close and unique bond. Rather than the dynamic of typical friends, their relationship leans more toward that of an older sister and her little brother. Dahee is fiercely protective of Bailey, always offering him guidance and unwavering support, whether it’s in their shared work as producers or their personal challenges within the industry. The two rarely, if ever, bicker—Dahee’s confidence and seasoned expertise go together perfectly with Bailey’s bold energy and determination, creating a nice dynamic between the pair. They often spend time together in the studio, trading ideas and offering feedback on each other’s work. It’s through this creative exchange that they’ve built a strong friendship. Bailey often praises Dahee for being his go-to person for advice, while Dahee admires Bailey’s fresh perspective and natural talent.
  • DEC: Born in the same year as her, Euichan and Dahee quickly bonded over their shared passion for music. Dahee often expresses her admiration for him, frequently calling him one of the most talented artists in the industry. Their friendship is built on mutual respect, with the two often exchanging ideas and supporting each other’s creative endeavors. Dahee credits Euichan for inspiring her to experiment more boldly with her sound, while Euichan has praised her for her dedication and sharp artistic vision. Though their schedules are busy, they always make time to catch up, whether it's through casual jam sessions or late-night conversations about their dreams in music. Some fans commented on their relationship, calling it inappropriate as they're opposite genders and threatened to boycott her, Dahee responded to these threats saying, "There's no reason men and women can't be friends, don't be ridiculous. Even if I were to have romantic relations with Do Euichan—which I don't—that is no one's business, but mine."
  • Jay Kang: One of Dahee's more famous friends is Jay, whom she first noticed on the survival program 7 Tiers. She was impressed by his talent and began supporting him, never expecting they’d actually meet. However, during SWEETEST's debut promotions in 2023, their paths crossed, and they hit it off. Being four years his senior, Dahee often treats Jay like a little brother, playfully scolding him and calling him “kiddo.” Despite their differences, they bonded over their shared passion for music and remain close, always cheering each other on. The two don't meet often but Dahee still cherishes Jay's friendship.
  • Kwon Inha: Dahee and Inha’s friendship is rooted in mutual admiration and shared life experiences. Both born in 2001 and blessed with stunning visuals, they first connected through mutual acquaintances in the entertainment industry. Despite not attending school together, their similar paths as college graduates and their drive for success gave them plenty to bond over. Known for their elegance and sophistication, Dahee and Inha are often seen supporting each other publicly, from cheering each other on at events to sharing heartfelt birthday posts on social media. Their friendship is less about constant interaction and more about genuine support, with each rooting for the other’s success from the sidelines. To fans, they’re an iconic duo who embody grace and determination, but to each other, they’re just friends who truly get it.
  • Livvy Yang: Livvy only debuted this year, but she was already well-known for her skills as a producer and her solo career in China. While Dahee hadn’t closely followed Livvy’s earlier work, meeting her for the first time in 2023 left a lasting impression. Dahee was instantly captivated by Livvy’s confidence and striking beauty. In an industry where beautiful women are often underestimated, the two quickly found common ground, supporting one another in their shared mission to challenge those perceptions through their music. Their bond is a testament to the strength of women empowering women in a competitive field.
  • Monaka: Monaka and Dahee met as trainees sometime between 2018-2020. The two don't speak much about their relationship publicly but it's understood that they get along very well due to their shared passion of writing and composing music. The two often comment on each other's social media posts with each and every new update, reassuring fans that they still hold a close relationship.
  • Pristine: As the second-oldest member of SWEETEST, Pristine shares a unique and irreplaceable connection with Dahee. Born in 2002 and the only other adult in the group, Pristine naturally became someone Dahee could confide in on a deeper level. While Dahee adores her younger members, Yoonjung and Arev, she often feels more like a protective mother figure to them. With Pristine, however, it’s different—they’re equals, and their bond is built on shared understanding and mutual support. The two first met in 2022 when Pristine arrived in Korea to begin her training. Dahee was quickly attracted by her energy and down-to-earthness, and it didn’t take long for them to become inseparable. Whether navigating the pressures of their trainee days or adjusting to the idol life, Dahee and Pristine always had each other to lean on. Their natural chemistry and mutual respect set the tone for SWEETEST's friendship dynamic.
  • Sapphire: Dahee and Sapphire are a match made in friendship heaven. Both born in 2001 and fierce in their confidence, the two bonded over their shared journeys as idols and their long, grueling years of training—seven years for Sapphire and six for Dahee. Their mutual respect stems from the understanding of the sacrifices and dedication required to debut, as well as their natural leadership qualities. As the leader of PANTHERA, Sapphire’s commanding presence and charismatic aura resonate with Dahee, who carries a similar energy in SWEETEST. Their interactions are often described as electrifying by fans, with both women exuding a confident, powerful vibe. Whether they're hyping each other up during award shows or sharing tips for handling the pressures of fame, their friendship is a blend of love and genuine support. Fans love their bond, and have nicknamed them the “Dynamic Duo” of their generation.
  • Sukima: At first glance, many might not expect Dahee and Sukima to be friends—and not because of their personalities, but their appearances. Sukima’s puppy-like adorableness contrasts sharply with Dahee’s fierce and striking look. However, Dahee has dismissed such assumptions, stating, “Why should our appearances matter in friendship? You people just want to find ways to pit women against each other.” In truth, the two women have much in common. Both are main rappers in their groups and accomplished producers, often meeting to collaborate on songs. Beyond their professional similarities, their shared boldness, confidence, and determination form the foundation of their strong bond.
  • Sookyung: Dahee and Sookyung’s friendship is rooted in mutual respect and shared passion. Both women are rappers in their respective groups and accomplished producers who craft songs for various K-pop artists. Dahee first reached out to Sookyung in 2023 via Instagram after being impressed by several songs Sookyung had written, sparking a connection that grew naturally over time. They're close, and their shared artistry has brought them closer. The two often exchange ideas and support each other’s projects.
  • Thalia: Thalia and Dahee’s friendship is a shining example of how language and cultural barriers are no match for shared dreams and genuine connection. Born in Thailand, Thalia initially faced challenges adapting to the fast-paced K-pop trainee system, but Dahee admired her determination from the very beginning. The two first crossed paths during the survival program MY ROOKIE IDOL, where Dahee found herself drawn to Thalia’s incredible stage presence and warm personality. As fate would have it, they were paired for multiple performances during the show, giving them the opportunity to build trust and chemistry both on and off stage. These moments of collaboration laid the foundation for their enduring friendship, which only grew stronger when they debuted together in the project girl group, formed through WORLD CLASS, DREAMHOUR. Dahee appreciated Thalia’s optimism and her ability to bring light to even the most stressful situations, while Thalia admired Dahee’s drive and natural charisma. Today, they may be a part of different agencies, and not meet often, but their mutual support of each other stays intact.
  • Yeseon: Dahee first met Yeseon through the buzz surrounding her debut in a rising girl group. Dahee was instantly captivated by Yeseon’s transformation from actress-model to singer. She found everything about Yeseon—from her talent to her poise—genuinely awe-inspiring. What started as admiration quickly blossomed into a warm friendship. Dahee is often seen openly praising Yeseon’s abilities and work ethic, expressing immense respect for the younger artist despite the small age gap. Yeseon, in turn, appreciates Dahee’s humility and kindness, seeing her as both a mentor and a supportive friend. The two frequently spend time together when their busy schedules allow, sharing advice and motivation.

Artistry[]

Having spent much of her life as a trainee or performing in sweet and playful girl groups, Chae Dahee is now ready to redefine herself with her solo career. Drawing inspiration from artists like Charli XCX, FKA Twigs, and Camila Cabello, Dahee aims to showcase a side of her artistry she couldn’t fully express as a member of SWEETEST. She revealed plans to explore bold and personal themes in her debut albums, including sexuality, love, and lust. But for Dahee, it’s about more than just making music—she’s determined to create art that authentically represents her emotions and experiences.

"Fans know me as the elegant, demure, and pretty Dahee—but I want to change that. I don’t want to be defined by being cute or soft. While I love my group dearly, as an individual, I’m so much more than just another 'cute idol.' I want to be recognized as an artist with depth, versatility, and meaningful concepts. I’m 23, almost 24, and it’s time for my supporters to see the real me. I can’t wait to finally share my true artistry with the world."

Dahee shared that her biggest inspiration as an idol is Echo (also known as Xavier Luna) of ABYSS. With both having spent over a decade in the industry, she feels a deep connection to his journey and longevity. She expressed her admiration for his music, describing it as dreamy and captivating. Dahee also praised his dedication to concept-driven albums, noting how each of his releases feels cohesive and intentional. Striving to emulate that level of artistry, she hopes to create work with the same depth and vision in her solo career. Dahee especially highlighted her love for Xavier Luna's first studio album. She described the album as "perfectly experimental," "artistic." and "how a work of art should be." Other than him, Dahee also likes DEC and her labelmate, Ivan.
