Can You Hear Me Now? is the debut mini-album by Ahn Minhui, with the track "GIRL" serving as the title track. It was released on July 18th, 2019.
History[]
Production for the album started in early 2019, when Ahn Minhui was first told that she would be a soloist. Throughout the early months, Minhui, Hee Kyulyoon, and WATER.MIX spent a lot of time writing lyrics together. Minhui was the one who chose which songs were good enough to be sent to production.
Hee Kyulyoon and WATER.MIX spent the next couple of months composing and arranging the rest of the album, with SUNBOY collaborating on the title track. By May, the songs were ready to be recorded.
Minhui's voice problems caused the recording sessions to be a bit rough, but the songs still sounded good. QUILLIX and Sandra Min worked hard with Minhui to create choreography for the album. Alongside GIRL, which Minhui chose to be the title track, Early, HERE WE GO, and ALIEN also needed choreography.
At the beginning of June, Minhui's voice problems went away and she wrote a new song that inspired Hee Kyulyoon and WATER.MIX to produce it right away. The song, as well as the rest of the album, was rerecorded, and the album was announced to the public.
Preorders for the album were higher than Minhui expected, although they weren't outstanding. Fans seemed generally excited about the comeback. There was only one music video trailer posted, and the highlight medley was posted as well.
On July 18th, the album was released and the music video for GIRL was uploaded.

Lyrics Information[]
Early was written about Minhui's early days as a trainee. Minhui wrote about how she had to wake up early everyday, and how she only longed to go back to sleep until she reached the studio. She wanted other people who woke up early for jobs to relate to the song, or anybody starting something new and unfamiliar.
LOOKING is a song about Minhui's time before her debut when everyone was wondering who would get to debut. It's about her looking for her debut. Minhui wrote this song for people who were also looking towards opportunities in their lives.
HERE WE GO was written abotu what Minhui thought the idol world would be like when she was a trainee. It's about standing on the stage of her dreams and never letting go of that feeling. She hopes people who are also trainees will find hope in the song.
GIRL is a song that Minhui wrote to express how every idol seems to need to be 100% unique while also being 100% manufactured. She wanted to convey that idols start out as just normal people. She wants people to see the standards of the industry through the song.
Can You Hear Me Now? is a song about Minhui's feelings after she regained her voice. She wanted to express her true happiness but also the frustration she felt before. She wanted it to be a song of hope for everyone.
ALIEN was written as a fun song. It's about an alien who comes to earth just to see that humans aren't all bad. Minhui wanted to write this song to convey how she feels like she doesn't belong in the k-pop industry, but that other idols aren't much different from her after all.
LOVE is about how much Minhui loves music. Minhui wrote it to express how music has changed her life. She hopes it inspires others who want to follow music.
