변연빈 BYUN YAN BIN
Singer-songwriter and actress.
Signed under CNF Entertainment.
ABOUT 권장훈[]
Byun Yan-bin was born in Goryeong County, Gyeongsangbuk-do, South Korea on August 25, 1995. Her mother is a nurse working for a United Nations affiliate and her father is a former diplomat. During her early years, she and her family lived in multiple countries, including Nigeria, Mongolia, and Greece, childhood experiences which she cited as fundamental to the open-minded attitudes she developed about the world later on. Initially wanting to be a pilot after realizing that there were only few women in aviation, she suddenly shifted to wanting to become a singer after seeing girl group Cloud Nine perform for a charity concert near her hometown. Their family vacation in Tokyo, where she saw J-pop idols for the first time during a day trip to Akihabara, cemented her desire to be an entertainer and perform on stage.
At the age of 12, she began auditioning for several companies such as JYP Entertainment and Pledis Entertainment, but was unfortunately not accepted in either. In February 2010, she began to train under SSG Entertainment, being placed in a pre-debut girl group called Miss Sunrise alongside future Unique member Kang Sae-min and actress Kim Ji-bin; they released a pre-debut ballad single titled "Maybe I Give Up" in October 2010, but the group was disbanded before they could debut after SSG Entertainment saw little potential in the team and decided to focus their funds on an upcoming boy group instead. Byun remembers being told by an executive that the girls will never make it in showbiz industry, due to the outspoken attitude that they responded with after finding out they had been dismissed. Initially fueled with anger, she used it to motivate herself to prove him wrong.

In March 2011, she successfully passed the auditions for FB Entertainment, where she was placed in a pre-debut girl group as the second youngest member. In November 2011, Byun made her debut as a member of FB Entertainment's new girl group Angel Eyes as the lead vocalist and lead dancer. The girl group released four single albums and one studio album before entering a period of indefinite hiatus or de facto disbandment by 2019.
In February 2016, Byun made her acting debut in the MBS romance and comedy series What's Up With Kids These Days? as the supporting role Hyeme. The same year, she also appeared in a seven-episode variety show called The Muscle Queen. She was later nominated for Best New Actress at the 2016 MBS Entertainment Awards. In April 2017, she was the center of minor controversy after failing to answer an important ancient history question in a variety show; she would release an apology statement, but partially regretted it later on, attributing it to how the issue was blown out of proportion and led her to receive very degrading comments.
In May 2020, Byun announced that she had terminated her contract with FB Entertainment, and had signed a deal with independent entertainment company 24D Arts to manage her acting and singing activities. In July 2021, Byun played a supporting role in the revenge melodrama series Second Husband. In September 2021, Byun made her screen debut in the low-budget romance drama film The Different Girl, playing the lead role Ji-yeon. In early 2024, Byun revealed that she was "slowly working" on a new album but likely won't be releasing it until next year.
On March 25, 2024, Byun released the single "Money Can't Buy The Truth", which tells the story of a woman who has to confront her cheating husband who tries to distract her with money and material gifts. She described the work of Welsh singer Duffy as her inspiration behind the song's sound. On May 13, 2024, Byun released the self-composed single "Grapevine", which she described as an "upbeat acoustic song with interwoven themes of faith and devotion in God". For the first time, she made her appearance as a solo artist on South Korean music programs, with the song debuting in the top 20 of the Circle Download Chart at #18.
In late 2024, it was confirmed that Byun had been casted to star in the thriller drama film One-Hit Worship, in which she plays Kang Ji-bin, the spearhead of the fictional newspaper The Independent Globe's investigative journalism unit. She later received praise for her portrayal of Kang, and she later commented about how it was such an eye-opening experience for her.
In March 2025, Byun released a collaboration with LILYDIVA member Kim Raina titled "내 또래 소녀들은 더 잘 알아 (Girls My Age Know Better)", which shows them lyrically advising women from the younger generations to avoid making the mistakes they made when it comes to indulging in toxic men and hedonism. In the same year, Yanbin released her debut studio album Boots Stop Working. The album received decent reviews from music critics, with limited-edition vinyls being sold in record shops in Seoul.
