Blair Boys is the training program for Blair Entertainment, while the company has always had trainees, Blair Entertainment had never made its trainees known to the public. On July 20, 2023, the trainees were revealed for the first time, but with no facial pictures but only with names, birthdays and when they started training.

Training Curriculum[]

When a boy joins the program, the first month of training, the trainers and the trainee start making a rough draft on what their training schedule will be. The companies head trainer Kang Soonmin and the trainee meet for the first week, doing initial evaluations before Soonmin and the trainee come to an agreement on what kinds of practices are recommended.

In Blair Boys, freedom of growth is encouraged, if a trainee wishes to take an off day, they can, as such, that also means the growth of oneself is also up to them as well.

Several trainees (new and old) have stated that for their evaluations, how they are graded is through a weekly basis, they record their videos (1 for dance, vocal, and rap) and then send it in at the end of each week. As such this is also the case for the international trainees who can not be in Korea at the moment to also evaluate their skills and growth as well.

Along with that, trainees are encouraged to take extra classes the company offers some of these include:

  • Humanities (Learning about worldly topics, race, cultural appreciation, self-awareness)
  • Language (Korean, Japanese, Mandarin-Chinese, English) up to 3 levels: Beginner, Intermediate, Fluent
  • Health and Wellness (Includes: Yoga, Mindfulness Training, Nutrition as some of the basic starting classes)
  • Lyric and Composition Classes, up to three levels: Beginner, Intermediate, Expert
  • Modelling
  • Acting

Due to most trainees already knowing about K-pop, hence why they joined the company, the trainees give each trainee a newly crafted individual music playlist with music ranging from: jazz, house, rap, enka, C-pop, J-pop, pop, soul, country, ballads, opera, metal, rock, screamo and choir.

"They already know what K-pop is, that is why they are here, they want to be a K-pop idol. When we first started making these individual playlists, it was from way back when EMERGE were still trainees. All 9 of them had different musical tastes, and their group playlist during training showed that.

After they left the training program, we kept the playlist they had, and we used it for research on what other forms of music was out there. We made sure to stay far away from K-pop music unless it was trot or ballads, because that's stuff the kids already know about.

One can't be a successful artist without knowing about other forms of music, and that is something we take pride in here in the training program. So each month, we grab as many songs from all over the world, after we screen them of course, and make playlists for the trainees.

Now we don't expect them to always listen to these playlists, but each playlist had around 7-10 songs, maybe 12 songs max, At the end of each month, when we pull them all in individually for their reviews, we also ask them what song interested them in the playlist, and why did they like said song.

We want to raise these kids to appreciate music, and to do so, you need to understand that their are more then just K-pop in the world"

—Kang Soonmin

While dance and vocal lessons are mandatory in the program, those that undertake rap lessons also have more added to their schedule. If a trainee takes rap lessons, they are also required to take lyric and composition classes as well, these belief stemmed form EMERGE members Kim Eunjin and Kim Jiheon who formed the basics of the classes for lyric and composition and helped train WYVERN before the company was able to fully hire professional teachers.

For the monthly evaluations the following is reviewed:

  • Vocals (+ lyric and composition if taking the classes)
  • Dance
  • Rap (+ lyric and composition)
  • Time management
  • Professional Attitude
