Beeverse (비버스) is a twelve-member girl group under Magic Entertainment. Formerly under Jupiter Entertainment, the group made their debut on May 21, 1996, with their first studio album BEEVERSE Act 1 - BEEginning, as 24 members, the largest during the time.
Concept[]
Name[]
The name "Beeverse" is a portmanteau of "Bee" and "Universe". The group hopes that, like bees, they will explore "the contents [of music] and beyond."
Concept[]
The group has a graduation concept, where members can freely choose to leave or join as they wish. New members are announced via recruitments, referred to as "The Swarm". Additionally, they have their own theater located in Seoul, South Korea, named "The Beez", where the group and its' respective units perform daily for 2 hours.
Members are revealed within their designated generations, here referred to as "Hives".
History[]
Pre-debut[]
Sometime in 1994, a representative of Jupiter Entertainment, Kang Dae-ik, had announced that the company would be preparing a girl group with a concept that has "never been seen before". Auditions were announced later for any females ages 19-23. Reports also mentioned that construction had begun for a theatre in Seoul, South Korea, presumably for the girl group. The news drew curiosity from netizens.
On July 17, 1995, twenty-eight members were announced as the first generation, later referred to as hive, of the girl group now revealed to be named Beeverse: Bora, Aryum, Yeonghyeong, Hanhee, Taeyu, Chanhui, Nahyun, Heeja, Minkyeong, Hanbi, Ikyung, Bori, Jihyun, Dahee, Seyeon, Yoonmi, Yunhee, Kangji, Jinha, Heeyeong, Hwayoung, Eunmyeong, Taera, Seohui, Seowool, and maknae Saebyul. The group soon after made headlines for purely the number of members within the group, with netizens claiming that the members would be paid very little, if any, money at all, as well as concerns for their dorms and eating.
On February 1, 1996, it was reported that construction for the group's theater had finished, and the group would begin performing there soon. Unfortunately, on February 27, 1996, Bora and Nahyun were announced to be leaving the group; however, they will debut as a sub-unit named Heart that will be loosely related to Beeverse and that members of Beeverse could possibly feature on the unit's releases
1996-1999: Debut, BEEVERSE Act 2 - BEEnice, BEEVERSE Act 3 - BEEtogether, graduations, hives 1.5-2[]
In March of 1996, it was reported that Beeverse would be making their debut in May of the same year. Their debut album would also feature approximately 16 songs, with one song featuring the sub-unit Heart. The reports were confirmed by Jupiter Entertainment in an interview. On May 16, 1996, the group teased their first studio album BEEVERSE Act 1 - BEEginning, set to be released on May 21, 1996. It was released on the aforementioned date, with "Beeverse" serving as the album's title track.
On July 12, 1996, during a concert in the group's theater, Seyeon, Aryum, Yeonghyeong, Taera, Hwayoung, Taeyu, Yoonmi, Heeyeong, Chanhui, Heeja, Minkyeong, Seowool, and Dahee announced that they will all simultaneously graduate from the group after they wished to return to their private lives. Seyeon, Aryum, Taera, and Yeonghyeong will graduate at the end of July, Hwayoung, Seohui, Yoonmi, Heeyeong, Chanhui, and Taeyu will graduate in August, and Saebyul, Heeja, Minkyeong, Dahee, and Seowool will graduate in September. The subsequent graduations left Hanhee, Hanbi, Ikyung, Bori, Jihyun, Kangji, Jinha, and Eunmyeong as the only remaining members of the group. Jupiter Entertainment shortly began auditions for a second generation of members, with the possibility of a "1.5th" generation.
