Asiavision Song Contest 2022, or ASC2022 for short, is the inaugurational edition of the Asiavision Song Contest. To decide the host, the Asian-Pacific Broadcaster Union has opened applications for countries which were interesed to host the first edition, which was decided to be China represented by it's national broadcaster CCTV.

Twenty six countries participated in the first edition. The host country China won the contest, represented by Mia Lee with song "Give It", collecting 270 points, 20 more than runner-up - Japan.

The Mercedes-Benz Arena (simplified Chinese: 梅赛德斯-奔驰文化中心; traditional Chinese: 梅賽德斯-奔馳文化中心; pinyin: Méisàidésī-Bēnchí Wénhuà Zhōngxīn; Shanghainese: Me-se-teq-sy-pen-zy Ven-ho Tson-sin, literally "Mercedes-Benz Culture Center"), formerly known as the Shanghai World Expo Cultural Center, is an indoor arena located on the former grounds of Expo 2010 in Pudong, Shanghai. It is owned and operated by the AEG-OPG joint venture. The facility seats 18,000 people and includes a smaller venue, The Mixing Room & Muse, which is a more intimate live-music venue. The arena hosted the opening ceremony for the Expo 2010, during which it was known as the Expo Cultural Center.

Controversies[]

Russia's participation[]

Originally Russia appeared on list of participating countries, the country was removed shortly after due to militar invasion on Ukraine and public demand of country's disqualification caused by it. Russia was replaced with Canada, which expressed interest before and joined the competition via associated ABU membership.

National Finals rigging accusations[]

Hallyufest[]

Korean national final's winner Yejoon was accused on convincing his fans to bot the viewer voting after receiving 42 televote points and winning the competition with 63 points in total. The main reason of these accusations was fan favourite artist Kim Geonu and "Starry Night", which despite of being jury's favourite finally placed third due to receiving only 14 points from the public. The accusations were also thrown at the contest's runner-up - Oxanne, who received only two points less than the winner. After the contest korean fans of the contest heavily criticised Hallyufest voting system, which highly biases viewer vote over professional jury vote despite of officialy being equal. KBS didn't made any statement about changes in Hallyufest in future editions.

BALIFEST[]

After victory of Banyu Santoso and "Boneka" in BALIFEST, TVRI was accused on rigging the voting in favor of indonesian-language entry over "Inochi ni kirawa rete iru" performed by haku. in japanese, which was another fan favourite. Later the voting was inspected by independent commision, which didn't found any issues with copetition's results.

Jackson Wang as host[]

When Meng Jia and Jackson Wang were announced as hosts of ASC2022, many fans of the contest demanded announcing new partner for Meng Jia. Claims to boycott the MC were made based on Jackson Wang's statements supporting ethnic crimes on Uyghur minority in Xingjiang Autonomus Region. Any statement didn't came from CCTV or Jackson himself, making him still the host of the event.

Other Countries[]

  • Myanmar originally confirmed participation in the contest, however before final list of participating countries was announced, country's broadcaster withdrew from participation due to budget issues and inner situation in the country
  • Tajikistan confirmed interest in debuting in the contest, however financial situation forced country to hold it's debut plans for future. Tajik broadcaster confirmed broadcast and plans for debut in future
