Asenai Gyūmo, often referred to as just Asenai, is a 2018 action role-playing game developed and published by Nintendo in collaboration with WAVE. Set in a stylized open-world environment, the game features real-time combat mechanics, an elemental system, and character-switching. Released initially for the Nintendo Switch, iOS, Android, and Windows, Asenai has received continuous updates through a games-as-a-service model, expanding its storylines, regions, and character roster. It is notable for its lack of monetisation, with no gacha system, premium currencies, or microtransactions.
Set within the universe of The Apeiron, which forms the narrative of the boy group khaos, Asenai features a vast, interconnected open world spanning the dimension of Eudaimonia and select regions of the realms of Apeiron, Aporia, and the Diaresis. The player takes on the role of a customizable protagonist known as the Dreamer, who journeys across the seven nations of Eudaimonia, seeking to uncover the mysteries behind their forgotten origin and that of the seven enigmatic khaos members, who serve as key companions and playable characters.
The game utilises an action-based combat system structured around seven elemental forces: Darkness, Electricity, Air, Water, Earth, Fire, and Light, with strategic interplay between elements being central to both exploration and battle mechanics. While Asenai shares its structural DNA with other open-world ARPGs, it notably contains no gacha mechanics or in-game monetisation. All characters, items, and content are obtained through progression, story completion, and exploration.
