━ Anomii |
Anomii (Korean: 아노미이), occasionally stylized as anomii, is a multinational K-pop boy group formed through the 2025 survival program Into The Spotlight and signed under 24D Arts imprint Emancipation of Music [1]. The group consists of seven members: Hong Heonbo, Benjamin Castro, Choi Jaewon, Nam Hyunwoo, Song Wonchan, Song Gyujin, and Kim Sungwon. The group is known for their experimental discography and introspective themes that are largely indebted in psychology and sociology concepts.
Anomii made their debut on August 4, 2025, with the extended play (EP) Do You Even Know What True Love Is? and lead single "Horn On My Head", which received positive reviews for its figurative lyricism and production. The group achieved their first mainstream breakthrough with the 2026 sleeper hit "Warmth", peaking top ten in South Korea and making them the first 5th generation boy group to achieve an entry on the Billboard Hot 100. Their first studio album, The Big Small Things In Life, became their first Platinum record after selling over 350,000 copies worldwide, and also yielded top-ten singles "Superficial Love" and "Perpetual Footprints". Their succeeding studio album, Live For The Applause (2027), achieved widespread critical acclaim and was ranked as the Best K-pop Album of 2027 by multiple music publications.
In late 2027, Anomii's contract was successfully extended upon the decision of the seven members. Their succeeding releases, single album Whatever, I Guess (2028) and EP Gestalt (2029), marked the culmination of the group's gradual rise to popularity, spawning chart-topping singles "Situationships", "50/50", "Love You, Hate It" and "You're Not The Problem". Following a brief hiatus, the group returned in 2032 with their third studio album Wonderland Broadcasting System, which became their international breakthrough. Anomii is considered to be one of the most successful reality show groups, being the recipient of several Hangang Artistry Awards, MelOn Music Awards, Golden Disc Awards, and MTV Video Music Video Awards wins as well as two Grammy Award nominations.
Name and Branding[]

The name Anomii is a play on the term anomie, which was coined by French sociologist Émile Durkheim and is defined as "a condition of instability resulting from a breakdown of standards and values or from a lack of purpose or ideals". Following expansive discussion from a few fans on Twitter, member Benjamin Castro provided an elaboration on their name on an episode of music program Rankdown @ MBS:
"Anomii is derived from the sociological term anomie, which is best explained as the state of disorientation due to state of lack of social or ethical standards. This is a term that can easily be interpreted and applied to societal contexts in different ways by various ideological lenses, but we would like to clarify that our concept particularly pertains to depicting the messy experiences that come with being a human in a fast-paced, demanding, and fragmented society. We are not trying to endorse any reactionary political viewpoints and never will. [2]"
The group's executive producer is K-pop rapper Heera, who originally served as their Rap Mentor in Into The Spotlight. An experienced female idol who was part of a girl group and has been critically acclaimed for her artistry, she is in charge of spearheading the group's creative direction and album creation process, while also helping to empower the boys to be able to contribute to the development of their music and performances. The group has also enlisted indie artists such as Kwon Janghun, Byun Yanbin, Yong Hwa, Won Taehyun, Park Minjun, and Aaron Cho to "expand and enhance the substance of their discography."

Anomii frequently incorporates concepts from sociology, psychology, and other fields of the liberal arts in their themes [3]. Anomii visually and musically takes a wide variety of influences. In an interview, Choi Jaewon said: "There's lots of media out there that inspires us in everything, from helping Heera-sunbaenim come up with concept ideas to writing what our next song will be about, but we do want to create an atmosphere that oddly evokes both familiar nostalgia and a warped present," Critics have previously compared the group's debut output to the vocal-heavy sound of boy group SOLVIZ [4]. As performers, Anomii has named Fromis_9 as role models that they would like to emulate, calling them one of the best survival show groups of all time due to their vocal talent and overall cohesion, two qualities that they would like to develop as time goes by.
Career[]
Pre-debut[]
Prior to their debut, Hong Heonbo was a contestant on survival audition programs Colors (2019) and Sol Puzzle (2021). He independently made his solo debut as an artist with the single "Please Don't Forget Me" in 2022. Choi Jaewon is a former contestant of MBS talent search program The Artist's Arena, competing as part of short-lived project band No Manners. Nam Hyunwoo is a former Ivory Entertainment Group trainee, and previously worked as a teen model, appearing in the music videos of songs such as Yong Hwa and HARAM's 2024 collaboration "When I Grow Old". Twins Song Wonchan and Song Gyujin were previously part of a children's dance troupe, with the former previously serving as a backup dancer for the performances of K-pop artists such as Cloud Nine, H6bble, and Yoon Jihan.
2025[]

Anomii members in 2025
In June 2025, it was confirmed that Anomii had signed an exclusive contract with 24D Entertainment, becoming the first ever K-pop group to debut under the agency since it was founded in 1996. The label provided promises that they will provide their utmost support to the group, while also helping members receive individual opportunities in the entertainment industry. A week later, it was revealed the rapper and visual artist Heera has been enlisted to be the creative director of the group. For their first original content, the group decided to perform a medley of some of SOLVIZ's most popular songs ("Fever", "For: The Summer", "Find You", "Sun & Storm", "I'm Not Moving", "Haunted", "Enemy or Lover (I'm In Love With You)", gaining the attention and stamp of approval of former member Nae Sieun [4].
In August 2025, Anomii made their debut with the extended play (EP) Do You Even Know What True Love Is?, featuring the lead single "Horn On My Head" and secondary promotional track "Run With You...". The EP received generally positive reviews from music critics, and decently performed commercially, debuting at 3 on the Circle Album Chart with 60,000 sales, while the lead single became a sleeper hit that peaked within the top 50 in South Korea while entering the top 10 of iTunes charts in Brazil, Hong Kong, Philippines, Taiwan, Vietnam, and 12 other countries [5]. In late August, the group had their first appearance on monthly web music show Hangang's Mystery Coffee Shop, performing a set of five songs including a cover of Chappell Roan's "Pink Pony Club", which was later released to streaming platforms due to demand. In September, they released "Just Let Go", a soundtrack to the MBS boys love (BL) drama Bitter Daydreamers. The song was embroiled in plagiarism allegations, which were later denied and dismissed in court.
Later in the month, the group officially confirmed that their first comeback was due to be released in early 2026. The group pre-released its B-side single, "Fall of a Fine Voice", which would go on to become the group's mainstream breakthrough after peaking within the top 20 of the Circle Digital Chart. Its music video, which explicitly featured themes of mental health and school violence, sparked discussions on social media.
2026[]
On January 5, 2026, Anomii released their comeback single album Ongi, featuring previously released "Fall of a Fine Voice" and the title track "Warmth". "Warmth became their breakout hit in South Korea and worldwide, peaking within the top ten of the Circle Digital Chart and also achieving chart success in Southeast Asia and North America. In February 2026, Anomii released their first original English single "Try Me Now", which was used as a soundtrack to Xiverse Technologies' post-apocalyptic first-person shooter video game Flock and Thread [3].
In March 2026, 24D Entertainment announced that Anomii will be releasing their first studio album in May 11, with the album title later being revealed to be The Big Small Things In Life. The album contained 9 tracks including "Try Me Now" and pre-release single "Superficial Love", which became their second top three single on the Circle Digital Chart. The Big Small Things In Life sold over 350,000 copies in South Korea, and earned the group their first win in a public broadcast music show on KBS2's Music Bank.
2028[]
In June 2028, it was announced that all members of Anomii with the exception of Song Wonchan and Nam Hyunwoo had signed a second contract with Emancipation of Music, though the latter two will not depart from the group, confirming an extension of the group's activities. In October, the group released their comeback single album Whatever, I Guess, featuring the pre-release single "Relationships" and "50%". The album was a massive but unexpected commercial and critical success, with the album earning the group their first two number-one singles in South Korea. "50%" would also go on to become their first entry in the United States market, after debuting in the US Billboard Hot 100 at #92.
2029[]
On March 26, 2029, Anomii released their second extended play (EP) Gestalt, featuring the pre-release single "Inscription" and the lead single "You're Not The Problem". Both songs peaked at top two in South Korea, proving the group's continuous commercial success domestically. B-side "Determinist" was later used as the opening soundtrack to a coming-of-age drama series by Netflix Korea, boosting the song's popularity and making it the third track from Gestalt to surpass 50 million streams on Spotify.

Anomii in a debut concept film
In October 2025, Anomii was revealed to be the new endorsers of Su-ppa's line of energy drinks, becoming the first boy group to do so since SOLVIZ in 2022. In November 2025, the group was appointed as official brand ambassadors for Papa John's Pizza, with limited edition photocards being included for selected items. In late December of that year, Anomii was revealed as the new face of Seonroja's Probiotic Drink products, with the company citing the group's crossover appeal, social media presence, and recent chart success as primary factors behind hiring them.
In January 2026, Anomii recorded the special digital single "Try Me Now", as part of a partnership campaign with the post-apocalyptic first-person shooter game Flock and Thread. A 215% increase in downloads of the game was reported by the development team following the successful advertisement. In February 2026, Anomii was announced to be official endorsers of Neoguri Ramyun. In April, the group featured as models in a commercial for South Korean colored contact lenses brand O Lens. In May, Anomii appeared in a video advertisement for one of South Korea's rising music streaming platforms BE.LIV, followed by becoming the brand ambassador of job searching website Albamon. In August, they became the leading brand ambassador of the Korean division of Miniso, a Chinese household and cosmetic goods retailer. Following their entry into the Philippine market, they modeled for clothing brand Bench and digital payment platform Pay Maya, the latter of which was revealed through a series of advertisements across Manila's metro rail system.
Philanthropy[]
In the winter of 2026, Anomii donated briquettes to the Sharing Briquettes of Love campaign to help those in need, including unprivileged and low-income families, throughout the harsh winters [2]. In 2027, the members attended and helped cover the expenses of the funeral of a loyal fan from Chungcheongbuk-do who had died in a car accident.
Advocacies[]
In June 1, 2025, just a week after the group was formed, members Hong Heonbo, Benjamin Castro, and Kim Sungwon wished their LGBTQIA+ fans a Happy Pride Month through their Realmu platform. While many praised the boys for openly supporting their queer fans, not everyone was happy about it, as K-pop fans who were Conservative Christians and Muslims expressed disappointment in their statements, and some bot accounts flooded their latest Instagram post with hate speech. Benjamin later responded to the minor backlash, saying: "I don't care and I will never condone bigotry, especially within my fanbase. The Lovemii community will always be a safe space for all sexualities and orientations. We love you! ♡" Since then, the group has started a tradition of posting Pride Month messages every June 1st, consistently positioning themselves as allies of the community.
Artistry and Impact[]

Anomii has been described to be one of the most influential and critically acclaimed idol groups of the 2020s, according to Billboard Korea. Music critic Chun Miyeon, known for her music reviews blog The Terror Music Professor, has described Anomii as a "resulting of blending the zeal for art and knowledge with mainstream pop sensibilities, which allows them to deliver deep themes to their audience without sounding pretentiously esoteric", while veteran metal musician Park Danho have given his co-sign by not only openly praising the group for their diverse genres, but also nuanced and relatable lyricism: "Most K-pop songs limit itself to singing generic lyrics of love and heartbreak or dominance and power, as it is a fishnet proven and tested to catch a wide audience. Anomii's members have written about both sides, but in between, they have also sung about challenging but highly relatable topics like adulthood, mental health, spirituality, escapism, climate change, and self-identity, or even mundane parts of life like being indecisive or eating dinner. Of course, this doesn't automatically make them superior to other acts, but they surely feel among the closest to authenticity that idols— an inherently manufactured business formula of pop artists— can get."
Despite initially starting out with limited production budgets, Anomii has been hailed by some international journalists and netizens as "future video vanguards", for their music videos that often contain standout imagery, film-esque plotlines, and cinematography. Since 2025, the group has received consecutive nominations at the Hangang Artistry Awards for Best Music Video. In past interviews, Yang Heera, their creative director during their rookie period, underscored the importance of visuals in K-pop: "In an oversaturated, suffocated market like K-pop, it is so important for groups from small companies to find a niche that makes them stand out, and I felt like leaning into the visuals, from the teasers to the music videos, would immediately draw interest because it gives off an impression that, 'look, we have a bunch of personal stories to tell, and we really want you to tune in."
Anomii's singing talents have also been widely praised by netizens, despite being the subject of constant ridicule and discourses about skill during their pre-debut era. Their YouTube covers have since regularly piqued the interest of listeners, not only for their harmonization and performances, but also their song choices. In an article from June 2026, Paul Tajima of Consequences Magazine noted that the members have eschewed covering already popular hit songs, instead opting to sing songs by indie artists or deep cuts from underrated albums, reflecting their active pursuit for new music. Anomii's diverse following has led to heightened exposure of the original singers of the songs they cover; In 2026, BE.LIV reported that streams of Cloud Nine's discography increased by 340% after the group performed their 1999 classic "Sol Vizion (Wishes From Querencia)" at the 2025 Hangang Artistry Awards pre-show. In December 2027, "Make A Wish For New Year", a fan favorite B-side from Carboncopyluv's Voicemails I Can't Send (2025), climbed the charts to be a top 40 in South Korea after being performed by member Choi Jaewon on Sisters Class.
